“Can you get me something to eat first?” Esther asked with a smile. She loved Gray’s food and really looking forward to eat it every time she could.
Not only because it tastes good and Gray made it for her, it also reminded her of her mother’s food.
It was nostalgic. Her mom, Jackeline, loved cooking, and she would occasionally ask the servants to step aside so she would prepare the family meal.
Gray got to his small fridge and pulled out food that was wrapped in aluminum foil. He then placed it in a microwave and waited for it to heat.
“Here, have it,” he said, handing Esther the food and watching as she hungrily ate.
“Thank you…” Esther replied softly.
“What is it? Why do you look bad?” Gray asked when he noticed that something was wrong with the way Esther looked at the food. She looked sad to the point that her eyes were glistering with tears.
“My father&hell
“Yes, my love. I do not know how to fight, so I can’t enter the competition. We only have the option of running away. I will take care of you,” Gray explained while looking at her with utmost earnest. She smiled lovingly and looked at him love, and gratefulness. Despite this, Esther was still worried.Esther knew that it would not take long for him to realized that he might had beaten more than he could chew because he stopped talking. How would he take care of a princess who was used to the royal life? It was easier said that done. But, at that moment, he only looked at his love and saw how quiet she was, then thought that perhaps she was thinking of the same thing.“That wouldn’t be right. Running away shows how many cowards we are. What do you think my father will do when he finds out about it? He might forgive me for being his daughter, but what of you? I refuse to let you be punished. There has to be another
Even men who weren’t participating were there, at least to get a glimpse of the princess.“Let the tournament begin,” the king said. Two young warriors got into the field. Each had iron clothes on and helmets on their heads. They had swords, maces, and armor to shield themselves.Everyone held their breath when one of the warrior’s armor fell down. His counterpart kept on beating him, and it would only be a matter of time before the game ended. The king announced the winner of the first game and allowed for a refreshing session. Esther sat hopefully on her chair as she crossed her fingers. She thought of what her mother would have done if she were in her shoes. She missed her mother so much. She had been told that she had a cunning resemblance to her mom, but she was sure of one thing. She didn’t have a quick mind to solve issues.“Relax. It is beyond you at this point,” she heard Jacke
“Will I manage this? This might be harder than I previously thought,” Gray told Yasike while looking at the other intently. There were currently on their break.Yasike, hummed and thought for a moment. He then saw Gray, who sighed with helplessness as if he did not have much option.“Don’t over think. You will manage. Do you know this is like a magical duet for you? You have an advantage, so make good use of it,” Yasike implored a pensive Gray.Gray thought for a while and nodded. It really was like a magical duet, and he had the guidance of a magical being and was fighting against those without but was that enough?Unlike Esther, Gray didn’t believe in supreme beings. He was more of a practical person. He thought of religion as the opium of the poor and a means of ruling to keep people under control.Esther had seen how prayers helped her mom, but what of Gray? He hadn’t seen a use for it. While in the chi
“Today more than ever. I wish she was here. A lot of things would have been easier to handle,” Yasike said while looking at her with a small smile, as if he was aware what she was going to say next.“I need your help,” Esther said while looking at him with helplessness, “ I am sorry but I really need you to do something for me.”She was sorry she had a lot on her plate at that moment that she hadn’t asked Yasike what had been bothering him.“I thought so,” he answered, smiling as he got up and dressed fully to get Gray. After their training, he had given Gray some of his clothing to be used as a disguise.“I owe you,” Esther said.Saying the statement at that time, she had not known that she would have to repair all of Yasike’s favor sooner than she thought. She also didn’t know that the favor would threaten to break their family. When Yasike and Gray
Sindro thought that how dumb and stupid his dad’s reasoning had been. He could not help but look at him strangely with pursed lips. After all, there was no way he could comment about it and could only be kept quiet.“What option did you give him? Would you have changed to loving men if you were in his shoes?” Priscilla asked while looking at them curiously. There was a mysterious hint of tone in her voice.“I will not discuss this further,” Theban said, and Priscilla kept on screaming at him, but he was numb.“Why did I leave him alone when he needed me the most?” she asked herself. For a very long time, she had wanted to go back to the kingdom and look for her son. Some days, she walked up till the border of the village then stood from a distance just to catch a glimpse of her son.Other days, her fear of how he would react upon seeing her was bigger than her desire to see Sindro so she would walk back hom
“Give him to me,” Albert suddenly said, taking Gray from Jane’s embrace. At that time, he was not so sure how to really approach Jane about it. He could only look at her with a complicated expression.Just as he was close enough to grab Gray, the child seemed to not like his presence.Cause when he touched him as if on cue, Gray started crying, and no amount of pestering could calm him down.Jane’s door was partially opened, and Albert looked through to see if Georgina would be coming out but what had he expected.“Where is his mother?” he asked with a deep frown. He was looking at Jane with concern.“She shortly left after you left, said she was going to get some household necessities. I haven’t seen her since then,” Jane explained while looking at Albert with a small smile.Albert nodded. It seemed that there wasn’t much she knew, and it was also not
“No one can have access into this palace without being seen,” his second in command answered with a deep frown when Monike told him that he suspected someone had sneaked into the palace. If that really happened, it was a very big disgrace towards his authority. But what if it was really the case?“I’m sure there is,” Monike insisted with a frown, and then he continued, “Anyway, to be on the safe side, we need to increase security around the palace and be very vigilant.”His second in command nodded in understanding. With the task fixed, they made sure to check every person coming in and every person leaving this place. We cannot allow what happened to our boss Jackeline to happen again, Monike thought to himself with conviction. From a far, Gray could see how tight the security was that night. He was looking at everything with deep seriousness and concern. The more he looked, the more he rea
Grace was the daughter of the kind woman from the village who had helped Gray and Josh settle.Gray and Josh got close after Gray narrated his story to her. It might have been a pity, and Gray couldn’t tell. But Grace was really kind to them after that, and that was something both of them really appreciated. They were not, of course, idle when they stayed in the village. He borrowed books from them, and after reading Shakespeare’s books, he developed an interest in art and poem.“We are moving away,” Grace suddenly had told Gray seriously one day after they had joined their bodies in a union.Hearing this, Gray was startled. He could not help but look at her in confusion before asking, “Why? Where?”Before Grace could answer, she heard her mom calling her. Despite not knowing where they were going and why they were leaving, Gray still started packing. He then waited for her to return. But that had b
