She got back into the house and fetched a pail of water which she poured on Melanie. She stirred a little, and Katherine urged her to get into the house.

She should have woken up the next morning feeling better, but she didn’t. She was worse than the night before. Her fever was high, and she kept on vomiting and saying incoercible things. Katherine thought it was a hangover, so she rushed into the kitchen to make a homemade mix for a hangover.  She boiled water, added fresh ginger, honey, and lime juice, and Melanie had to take it however bad it tasted.

She threw up everything, and that got Katherine more worried.

“We need to get to the hospital,” she told Melanie as the voice of reason.

She didn’t want to risk it when maybe her sister’s condition was something that needed medical attention.

“We don’t have to. I know what the problem is,” Melanie replied with a bitter smile.
