“Maliyah are you okay,” asks dad as Aspen places me on the couch in my room.
Dr. Smith immediately hooks up an IV to me though the gash as already closed. She still goes through her checklist to ensure everything else is fine and takes some of my blood.
“I’ll come check your blood again in an hour. Hopefully there will be no wolfsbane in your system by then.”
We all thank Dr. Smith as she leaves with a vial of my blood.
“I’m fine, really. It’s just a scratch.”
“I’m gonna kill him,” growls dad.
“Come on dad, that’s unnecessary. It’s not like he could’ve really hurt me.”

AspenI can’t believe I let this happen. I promised Derek she would be safe here and yet here she is fighting for her life. I didn’t realize Mira had slipped silver daggers laced with wolfsbane, making it more difficult for Terra to heal. On top of that, Mira had pierced Maliyah’s lung. Our best healers have done all they can, but they cannot rid Maliyah of the wolfsbane. That is beyond our abilities as it’s not an issue among our people. I need to have Derek’s doctor teach my people how to rid wolves of this toxic plant. This will not be the last attempt on Maliyah’s life.Maliyah has been out for three days and her family is on their way.
