The Ruby Necklace

Malina POV 

"You have no idea how grateful I am for your help back at the forest". The female mountain wolf said again and I gave a fake smile. 

"Oh, I know how grateful you are, you have been repeating the same words "thank you for your help" for the past fifteen minutes" I said, expecting her to pipe down her gratitude. 

"Oh, I did?, I just wanted you to know how grateful I am for your help" she said again and I rolled my eyes. 

"I'm sorry if my character of showing gratitude is getting on your nerves but my brother is always saying girls are useless and are best at the kitchen and gossiping. I would make sure you meet him and rub it in his face  that there are better girls out here, even better---"

"Umm, excuse miss ---” 

"Alice Tate, call me Alice". She said and I smiled awkwardly. 

"Ok Alice, I'm not meeting anyone, what I would do is, take you home in one piece and make sure you are safe" I said without hesitation. 

She looked at me with sadness in her eyes but I ignored them, mountain wolf are a different breed and I didn't want to have any problem with them and I'm pretty sure she's royalty, the way she talks and arrange herself even after all that has happened, its not something anyone could do. 

"Hello miss". Her kitty voice cut my thought off. 

"I already told you Alice, there's no way I'm meeting your brother or anyone in your pack". I said but looking at her, she already had tears in her eyes and I'm a sucker for girl's tears. 

'Common Malina, just go with her and see who this man is, who knows he might be what you need'. Ashley said 

"Oh come of it Ashley, we both k ow you enjoy admiring strong men and that's the only reason you want me to go and you forget this girl's home is foreign to us" countering ashley opinion. 

"Hey miss", Alice voice brought me back to  reality, looking at her fac, her eyes were widened enchanting at the same time, like a cat seeing it owner after a long day apart. 

"Ok Alice, I will meet your brother", I said after falling for her looks. "But I will only see him and talk for a few moment and then take my leave" I completed my statement. 

"Why miss, I would like you to have dinner with the royal family" she said. 

Royal Family, I knew it,  This girl Alice seems like a kind person but I bet the rest of them are anything like her. 

"I'd rather fight herds of rogues for the whole night than sit with mountain wolves who are royals" I said with disgust written all over my face. 

"Why would you say that, so you think royals are troublesome nuisance or are you pressured because we are mountain wolves" she asked me with a concerned look. 

Pressure!, lady I am an alpha by blood, you people might be mountain wolves but I bet silver and my skills will do justice to you people, I thought before sighing. 

"Its not what you think, First, I don't hate you mountain wolves and Second, I don't like going to a pack, in your case Kingdom". I said before looking away. 

"Your Eyes" she said. 

"What's wrong with them" I asked suspiciously looking at her. 

"You have the looking of someone that has been betrayed and broken" she said in her kitty voice. 

 "Are you asking because its a talent you mountain wolves have, to sense peoples inner most pain or you care, well never mind, its not something you should bother about" I said and looked away. 

"I know you saved me and you might even consider me as a pathetic excuse for a mountain wolf--"

"Don't bother, I know you are pregnant, fighting those rogues at full strenght would have pit your baby at risk", I said and she looked at me and raised her eye brows, I'm pretty sure she want to know how I found out. 

"I heard you begging while I was planning to attack", I said and she nodded. 

After waiting for what felt like an eternity but was seventy minute ride, we got to the mountain wolves royal palace. 

"Please come, its my humble request. At least help me to the stairs" she said with a pleading look. 

"Fine, but the moment I'm done seeing your brother I'm leaving, I don't want any troubles with the royal family" I said and she grinned, making me sigh as I helped her out the cab. 

"Ouch", she winced as i helped her out of the, looking at her knee was a big injury that was healing slowly due to her pregnancy. 

Bending and picking her bridal style, making her squeal as she looked at me shocked. 

"Don't look at me, smiling,  like I'm your knight in shining armor or else you are gonna walk all the way of the stairs of the palace in your condition" I said and she looked away still smiling. 

Paying the driver earlier was a good thing, walking ahead and looking straight,  not minding the gazes of people on me. 

I won't say I was easy but not to be rude, it felt like I was carrying a large wooden log. 

Standing in front of the main gate of the palace, I looked at them stressfully as beads of sweat appear on my forehead. 

"Patrick", suddenly Alice said, making me look up, a guy who isn't the guy approached us making me sigh in relief. 

"Alice, what in the moon goddess name happened to you, why are you heavily wounded, I thought you went shopping and worst of all, what are you doing with this lowly wolf". He said while lookin at me with disgust written over his face. 

I wanted to growl at him but I had to control myself since a lot was going on with my body that I still don't seem to understand. 

"Who is he Alice" I asked while controlling my breathe. 

"He is our beta", she said and I growled. 

"Can't you see your fellow royal is in trouble or are you standing there enjoying the show?, Take her from my hands now and go treat her" I said with such authority and as if he was compelled, he moved according and took Alice carefully. 

Since I don't know where to go, I followed them to what looked like a medical room. 

"Don't worry Alice, those rogues have crossed the line this time, the will pay with their life's for every scratch they left on your skin" Patrick said and I scoffed. 

"And the lowly werewolf who dared to scoff in my presense, you are? ", he asked while his eyes turned darker. 

"The one who saved me and my child from humiliation" Alice replied. 

"Can you please stop with the praises, well now that I know you are safe and I'm pretty sure almighty beta Patrick isn't your brother, I believe its time for this lowly wolf to take her leave" I said and Patrick looked at me apologetically. 

"I didn't mean it that way miss, please wait till our king returns, he would be thrilled to see the person who saved his her". Patrick said. 

"Who are you kidding beta Patrick, a royal mountain wolf will never be thrilled to see a werewolf, we are the lowly kind and your behavior earlier proved me right, besides I'm not thrilled to meet your king", I said and turned to leave and Patrick held my hand. 

"Please stay, we would like to compensate you for saving one of our own and bringing her home safe, anything you want will be granted as long as it is within our power", Patrick said and I laughed out loud. 

"Compensate me, I don't need your riches, I did what I did out of compassion and if she wasn't pregnant, I wouldn't have bothered. Take care of Alice and make sure someone capable escort her when she's out shopping next time" I said. 

"But, you didn't tell me your name, at least give me a name, I would like to know the name of the one that saved me tonight" Alice said. 

"White Wolf" I said, looking at Patrick one last time and leaving the palace. 

Huh, I hadn't thought I would go through all that after help her. 

Walking out the palace, I strolled through the stalls to see if anything catches my eyes. 

As I passed through the stalls randomly, I took a step back when something, not so shiny but charming caught my eyes. 

Going closer to the stall, it was a ruby Necklace mixed with onyx, a rare jewelry and I wondered why no one has noticed it. 

"How much does it cost sir?", I asked the owner who looked up and smiled at me. 

"You are such a Beautiful lady, take it, you  can have it", he said, and I shook my head. 

"No sir, I can't possibly take this for free" I argued. 

"In my long years of purchasing jewelry, I've learned that, majority of the time you choose the jewelry and on special cases the jewelry chooses you, so take it".  He said with a smile. 

Almost wearing the necklace, he pulled out a mirror and a certain light was reflected into my eyes, making me stumbled backwards. 

"Oh sorry about that, didn't mean to make you uncomfortable" he apologized. 

"Nothing to worry about sir, I was just taken of guard" I replied but still wondering why I felt weak for a moment when the light reflected in my eyes. 

Smiling at him one last time, I walked a distnce, still touching the necklace on my neck and then it hit me, if he didn't collect money then I can always get more item from his shop. 

Turning around to the market, I squinted my brows when I couldn't find the stall. 

"Hey, there was a jewelry stall here, did you happen to see or know the man that owns it" I asked a shop owner and he hissed making me squint. 

Damn he already left and now im indebted to someone i dont know, walking through the market and I noticed a group of people who didn't want me there, a sudden large growl making me shudder. 

Looks like some mountain wolf market guards don't like me, I thought before raising my hands and calling a cab to head back to my hotel.
