“So if that’s all that you were after, why come after us?” Kill Joy asked with a confused expression on her face after listening to Matriarch Ruth’s request. The request was so simple that she didn’t understand why they – the Barbarian Ancestors – had been attacked in the first place. After all, what Matriarch Ruth sought was sure to bring a lot of benefits to them all, and finally end the long rivalry between the three Great Races.

“Because they wanted to make it clear who was going to be in charge,” Adviser frowned and said. Unlike Kill Joy, his mind was sharp and well tuned to the schemes of men. The only way a person would be inclined to put up as dominant a display as Mane had, was when that person wanted to assert some measure of authority in a place.

“Yes. After all, which alliance doesn’t have a leader?” Pathfinder was just as sharp as Adviser. And he too was able to easily discern the reason for Mane’s earlier performance.
