Evelyn's POV
I sat on the chair, debating to myself. Should I let Leonard in or not?. The knock was now consistent but I just sat unmoved, endeavoring to make a better decision. My heart pounding in my chest. The knocking was gentle but insistent. I had expected him to give up since I didn't respond to the knocks, at that point I wanted to be left alone with my thoughts, but it seemed he wasn't one to give up easily.
With very little to no visibly expression on my face I stood up and made to unlock the door, the moment I had spent with him earlier washed through my body which made me halted dead on track, I stood for as long as i can't remember and reflected through the moment, and I let out a little smile before proceeding to open the door.
My mind was up for a game with me, I stopped again after a step, I can't tell how I feel, but whatever it is, it was real, right then I stood reminiscing on my life with Henderson lately, “No fairy tale would be better” I thought deeply to myself.
As I stood there, a smile spread across my face. I was grateful for Leonard’s presence in my life, for his kindness and concern. I felt a sense of comfort knowing he was there for me and that he cared about my well-being so much. Just before I could round up my thoughts another bang came at the door louder this time, I could hear him speak but I said nothing.
Rather I walked gently to the door and I took a deep breath then I flicked the door open, and my heart skipped a beat as I saw him standing in front of me. He was perfectly built, with broad shoulders and chiseled features that made him look like a Greek god. He looks almost perfect.
He rushed in almost immediately, I could see the genuine look of concern that was laced on his face.
“Hey you're good?
Are you alright”? He asked his voice shakily, I tried to act as nonchalant as I could be, and with an empty expression “I'm alright I responded.
“ If so what took that long to get to the door, or don't you understand, you don't keep a gentle man waiting” he said jokingly but his voice was firm.
I hadn't anticipated your visit, “ What happened? You had unfinished business to sort, or you couldn't just wait to see me?” I asked in a teasing manner.
Without waiting for him to say something, I chipped in quickly,
“ Oh someone is missing someone or do you check on your friends often?
He had been smiling all the time I spoke and this time to reply me he looked straight into my eyes, I felt the intensity in his look, not wanting to be affected I looked away.
“I sorted my stuff out and I thought you might need some company, it's why I'm here. But, apparently you're fine so I could just leave”
My heart clenched at the mention of him leaving me, I wanted him to stay, his presence right now has already impacted me a lot. There's no way I'll let him leave, so I moved closer to him.
“You're here already, why not stay longer?” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
He let out a little chuckle “ I know you'll miss me, but I was joking by the way.” He said amidst laughter.
With these we both went to sit on the couch in the living room, we talked, joked and laughed so much relishing each other's presence.
But as the night wore deeper our conversation became more sensitive and serious, we talked about life, hopes, dreams and much more. I was all exhausted and spent from my afternoon presentation and chaos, my eyes were itching for sleep.
He looked at me tenderly. I could see it from his eyes, he asked if I needed a bath because he noticed I have had not had one since I came back. He suggested I should bathe so I don't sleep off.
I stood up and made for the bathroom. In minutes I was done and had my nighties on, I met him at the living room and told him I was done, he didn't say a word to me, he just kept sending me those stares like daggers, they pierced through my heart and I could feel the tension building up in my body.
"Leonard," I said, trying to sound casual despite the turmoil inside me. I'm talking to you.
Leonard smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He said, his voice low and husky.
“I wanted to make sure you were doing okay. And that I have confirmed, but one thing I didn't come for was to tell you how stunning you look right now, but I can't leave without saying it, how would I forgive myself, if I did.
Congratulations once again on your presentation. You did really amazing,”
He raised a thumbs up just like he did at the presentation hall.
I only stood there smiling vulnerable at his compliments at this moment my whole face was painted red from blushing.
“Good night Evelyn.” He placed a kiss on my forehead, his hands wrapped around my waist, which he reluctantly let go and left.
I said my goodbye and watched him leave, with a heavy heart. I stood for a while after watching his retreating figure, which took me a million courage not to stop him.
The room suddenly became empty and quiet, the silence was so loud and I could feel his absence.
I felt a pang of gratitude toward Leonard. He was always looking out for me, always trying to make sure I was happy and healthy, what more could I ask for.
“Where has he been all my life?” I said in a very low voice, I went into the bedroom, and slumped onto the bed, in between thinking about Leonard , Caleb crossed my mind.
And for some reason I smiled to myself, fulfilled by how I had handled our moment earlier. He's just a douchebag, but I'll show him I'm more and make him regret ever trying to play and betray me. Let's keep the game going, with all these thoughts trying to sink in my head, absolute darkness took over and my eyes went dead shut.
Evelyn's POV.I woke up the next morning feeling very refreshed as though nothing happened yesterday, the soft sunlight streaming through the windows and casting a warm glow over my room. It was a soothing Atmosphere, as I lay in bed. But this atmosphere was shattered when Caleb crossed my mind. I couldn't help but curse in frustration. I tried to shove away any thought of Caleb that morning and not dwell on my problems with him, from where I stand, I'm not giving him a room to hover in my mind. Musing about Caleb was as bad as plummeting to a new low. Especially now that I have so much to look forward to, not now, if anything, the essential theme right now is to secure the stability and growth of my dad's company. “ I'll keep him right where he belongs” I thought to myself.I shoved the thoughts of Caleb away and made my way to the bathroom to start my morning routine. As I brushed my teeth and washed my face, I couldn't help but think of Leonard. This time it was impossible to k
Evelyn's POVI sat across Leonard in the dimly lit restaurant, my heart fluttered. He leaned in occasionally, whispering words I couldn’t quite make out, his voice low and teasing. The soft glow of the lights cast a flirtatious ambiance over our dinner, and I found myself lost in his deep, mesmerizing eyes. Our gazes locked again, and I quickly looked away, feeling the tension rise. To ease the moment, I asked, “Why do you keep staring at me like that?”His reply was swift and shameless. “I was just wondering what else you do besides being insanely hot. If I had cereal here, I'd give it up just to spoon you instead.”I nearly choked on my food at his last comment. He grinned mischievously. “Whoa, slow down there. It’s not a race.”With a smirk, I leaned forward slightly. “Wouldn’t you like to go racing for pleasure afterward?” My voice was sultry, and I bit my lower lip just enough to tease. The effect was immediate. He shifted in his seat, visibly trying to collect himself but failin
Evelyn's POV.We were in a mansion almost the size of a castle. It was breathtakingly beautiful, adorned with exquisite decorations and lights. As we moved closer, there was a line of people dressed entirely in black, each holding an artwork that read, “Welcome, Miss Evelyn.”“Oh my God, Leonard,” I said amidst tears. “This is phenomenal.”The moment I turned to hug him, fireworks lit up the alluring sky, their booming sounds amplifying the magic of the moment. In that instant, I felt as though I had everything I had ever wanted.Leonard took me in his arms, carrying me as we entered the mansion.Everything inside exuded elegance and status. Before I could fully grasp what was happening, Leonard picked me up in a bridal carry and brought me to a lavish room. The room redefined luxury — its magnificence was hard to put into words. He gently set me down, and I hugged him immediately. He pulled me closer, and our lips met in a passionate kiss.I could feel the intensity in every touch, h
EVELYN'S POV:I tried to act calm, not letting them notice the turmoil I felt, but my body betrayed me. I never anticipated Caleb's visit. But then again, this was Dana and Caleb being themselves. My instincts went into overdrive as I processed the unexpected twist. A shiver ran down my spine when Caleb's eyes locked onto mine, a hint of a momentum playing on his face."Dana, what's going on?" I asked, striving to keep my tone neutral.Dana breezed past me, with Caleb standing close behind. "I hope you don’t mind, but I brought Caleb along. I thought we could hang out. You know, make it a little gathering, isn't that interesting?," she asked casually.I watched as Dana and Caleb made themselves comfortable in my living room. A lingering unease settled over me; I couldn't shake the feeling that Dana was up to something, and Caleb's presence only deepened the mystery. But I stayed calm."I don’t think I want to go out today. Maybe we could hang out some other time," I said, feigning ind
EVELYN'S POVWith my heart pounding and questions racing through my mind, I dragged my feet to the door and flicked it open. The sight before me rendered me speechless. I had planned to visit Dad after lunch, yet here he was, standing in front of me.He wore a distressed look, as though he had just received terrible news. His face was etched with devastation.Stepping aside, I motioned for him to come in.“Dad,” I managed to whisper, my heart sinking as worry consumed me.We walked into the living room and sat side by side on the couch. As we were faced by ourselves.“Dad, are you okay? You're good?Is everything okay?” I asked not giving him any chance to speak, my voice trembling with concern. He looked at me with a mixture of fear and sorrow, laced everywhere in him, “I’m fine, Evelyn,” he said, though his trembling voice betrayed him. “But I need to talk to you about something. You’re the only one I have in my life right now, the only treasure I can hold onto, you are a thousand r
EVELYN'S POVI opened my eyes quickly, sweating profusely, my body drenched in a cold sweat. It took me a moment to realize that it was all a dream. I rubbed my eyes, trying to shove off the vivid images that still lingered in my mind. I turned on the bed lamp. My eyes darted from one nook of the room to the other, searching for any sign of movement or presence. But obviously, I was alone.I took a deep breath, trying to ease myself from the tension I felt at the moment. It was just a dream, I told myself. But the memory of it still felt so real. I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered inside me.As I sat up in bed, my mind began to wander. Was it just a coincidence that I had dreamed about Dana and Caleb betraying me after what I already knew? Or was my subconscious trying to tell me something? I thought intensely, trying to analyze every detail of the dream. And I came to understand immediately that Caleb and Dana were up to something. I needed to act—I couldn’t sle
EVELYN'S POV:I stared at my phone screen, my eyes wide with arrant disbelief.“How?” I whispered, my voice trembling with shock. My presentation—the one I had poured my heart, work, and soul into—had been rebuffed.Everyone knew I had done well; the applause and nods of approval from the team still played in my mind, the smiles of satisfaction, and the congratulatory handshakes I received afterward.I felt beads of sweat forming on my forehead as I sat on the bed, trying to process the news. This doesn’t make sense.I noticed Leonard wasn’t in the room, but there was noise downstairs, which signified he must be in the kitchen, probably getting some water. My thoughts were racing. This was too much to handle within 24 hours—I hadn’t even recovered from my nightmare yet. not even a half way and now these.Leonard appeared with a cup of coffee, concern etched on his face as he noticed my current state. He thought it was trauma from last night’s dream. He handed me the coffee and tried t
Evelyn’s POV:As I drove, my mind wandered back to the strange occurrences that had been unfolding around me. But I knew I was being prepared for something that was about to happen. Why had Caleb sent me flowers and a romantic card, especially after what I had seen in my dream last night? It was all too coincidental, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen. I needed just a little more clarity, a little more of a hint, and I would be ready for what was coming.I knew I had to be more careful, to plan my next move and figure out how to deal with Caleb, especially since I didn’t know exactly what would happen. I had managed to control my emotions at the office, gathering myself together to avoid making a mess of things. I needed to show the company my capability, and I wasn’t ready to trade that for my personal emotions.I was working perfectly fine despite the turmoil brewing inside me. My secretary had shown me some unattended emails, which I worked
EVELYN'S POV:Just when I thought I was finally catching a break from all the chaos, my heart pounded uncontrollably as I deciphered who had sent the message. I cursed under my breath in frustration. I hadn’t even finished dealing with Caleb and Dana, and now this? "Get ready for the battle you just began!" the text read.I stared at the screen in disbelief. Why was everything happening now? Hadn’t I already been through enough? Yet, as much as I wanted to break down, I knew I couldn’t afford to. Leonard had warned me before: staying strong was my only option. And I will abide by just that.Sliding my phone into my pocket, I headed to my room to gather my thoughts. I tried to act normal—at least on the surface—but my body betrayed me. My father noticed immediately that something was off when I got back. His concerned gaze lingered as I handed him the documents he had requested earlier.“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice tinged with hesitation.I nodded quickly. “Yeah, I’m fine.” I re
EVELYN'S POV:When I arrived at his place, he was sitting on the balcony, his shoulders slumped, staring out at the horizon. It wasn’t like him. I made my way inside and climbed the stairs, feeling a heaviness in the air. Something wasn’t right. And feared for the worst, but still couldn't say what could be wrong.“Hey, Dad,” I greeted as I stepped onto the balcony, forcing a smile. He turned to look at me, but his response was muted, his tone flat. My heart skipped a beat.As I walked closer, I noticed the small picture of my mom clutched in his hand. His eyes glistened with unshed tears, and it broke my heart to see him like this. “Hey, Dad,” I said softly, kneeling beside him. “I know you miss Mom. I miss her too, more than words can say. But you’ve got to take it easy on yourself. This—this won’t help you, Dad. You know Mom would want you to be happy. She’d want you to find joy, even in her absence. You still have me. Don’t you think I’m filling even a tiny bit of the space she le
EVELYN'S POV:Like the morning sun breaking through the horizon, his voice illuminated my day. He complimented me with a warmth that sent a blush creeping across my face. Though I tried to hide it, it was impossible. Leonard had a way of seeing right through me. “You look cute that way.” He said as he noticed the blush, and tucked me.I laughed as I reacted to it.“Sit,” I said, motioning toward the bed. I brought the breakfast tray up and placed it between us. We ate together, but the meal was brief; the clock reminded us both of the looming workday ahead.Once we finished, I gathered the dishes and headed to the kitchen. When I returned to the room, Leonard was already waiting for a bath. We stepped into the bathroom together, savoring a quiet, intimate moment before the rush of the day overtook us.Afterwards, we dressed and got ready to leave. My phone buzzed just as I reached for my bag. It was my secretary. She reminded me not to forget the files I had taken home to work on. “
EVELYN’S POV:He paused, his gaze piercing mine as though he was waiting for permission to speak. His intensity was palpable, but I said nothing. I just stood there, staring at him, my emotions swirling in a confusing storm of anger, hurt, and vulnerability.Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit me, and I barely made it to the bathroom in time before throwing up. My stomach churned violently, and tears streamed down my face as my body heaved. Leonard appeared moments later, crouching by my side. He helped me clean up without saying a word, his hands steady and comforting.“I’ll be fine,” I murmured, my voice hoarse. “Just… excuse me for a moment. I need to take a bath.”He nodded and left the bathroom, giving me the privacy I needed. The cold water from the shower was both soothing and shocking, washing away some of the emotional turmoil, if only temporarily. I took my time, letting the water cleanse me physically and emotionally. When I stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel, I not
EVELYN’S POV:My heart was racing as I scrolled through the images and the accompanying write-ups, each headline more shocking than the last. I leaned back in my chair, overwhelmed by a storm of emotions. Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to process everything. All I ever wanted was peace—peace I thought I had finally found with Leonard. But now, that fragile trust I was building had been shattered. How could he do this to me?I pushed myself up from the chair and trudged back to the bedroom, collapsing onto the bed. I lay there, trying to make sense of it all, but my mind had reached its limit. No clear thoughts emerged; only a chaotic swirl of hurt and frustration. I tried to sleep, hoping it would bring me some relief, but the turmoil inside me wouldn’t let me let sleep intervene.Frustrated, I got up and began pacing the room. My anger bubbled over, and I grabbed nearby items, smashing them against the walls. The destruction brought no solace, just more emptiness. Desperat
EVELYN’S POV:We walked out of the restaurant, the crowd still waiting outside. I tried to hide my tear-streaked face as we passed through them. When we reached the car, Leonard opened the door for me. I entered, and he followed. And he ordered the driver to move the car.The only sound in the car was the soft hum of the engine and my quiet sobs. How could I have known that Leonard was only taking me for a ride and would eventually break my heart? Caleb was right all along. I remembered his warning, how he’d told me to be careful. Even though we were not cool, I regretted not listening to him.Tears continued to flow as helplessness overwhelmed me."Evelyn, this isn’t what you think. Please let me explain," Leonard pleaded, his voice calm yet desperate. His words only fueled my anger. "Please, Leonard, take me home and spare me the lies. You never even asked me out officially! I only assumed things. How foolish could I have been?" I said, my voice trembling through my tears."Evelyn,
EVELYN'S POVI couldn't help but catch Leonard's glances every now and then. He could barely take his eyes off me, and I felt my cheeks warm with shyness as a blush crept over my face."Why are you staring like that?" I asked, still shy.Leonard looked at me with a deep sigh. "Right now, I feel like I'm getting a tan, 'cause girl, you're damn scorching.""Oh, right, but stop giving me those eyes," I chuckled at my last words. "I mean, you don't want to ruin my period do you?”"Wait, what eyes?" Leonard asked, leaning closer so I could see his eyes more clearly.I gasped. It felt like there was magic in his gaze. Leonard was a ten out of ten, and the more I looked at him, the more my heart fluttered. I was falling for him deeply. I looked away immediately, not wanting to be caught staring—or worse, drooling."I see. She gets a little shy," he teased, a smirk playing on his lips. "You can't really handle me, huh?"My whole face turned red, and I couldn’t meet his gaze anymore. He reache
EVELYN’S POV:The moment the door clicked shut behind him, I rushed upstairs, quietly tiptoeing as I neared Leonard’s room. I didn’t know why, but my curiosity burned—what was Leonard up to?As I approached, I caught snippets of his conversation through the slightly open door.“Listen, Mr. Watt,” Leonard’s voice was calm and firm, “by next week, everything will be sorted out. You’ll have your meeting with her. I promise you won’t regret this. Evelyn’s sharp, and you’ll gain so much from collaborating with the company. You just need to give us a bit more time. I know there’ve been delays, but trust me—right now, she’s not fit for an official meeting.”It hit me like a wave. Leonard had been managing my schedule, helping me when I couldn’t help myself. Mr. Watt should’ve been furious over these constant delays, but he wasn’t—because of Leonard. He’d been standing in the gap for me, silently ensuring things didn’t fall apart. But, I wondered if this was the reason behind Leonard's react
EVELYN’S POV:The sunlight cast a golden glow on my body through the curtains, entering directly into my eyes and forcing them open. I squinted against the brightness, disoriented. It was morning already, though the night had felt far too short. As usual, Leonard wasn’t in bed. I turned toward the door, half-expecting him to walk in with my morning coffee, as he often did. Ten minutes passed, and still, he didn’t show up.A wave of anger washed over me. Why would he just leave without letting me know? Tears stung at the corners of my eyes. I needed him around—his presence was my comfort. Had he left because I was on my period? The thought alone made me furious. If that was his reason, it was rude and lame. And I vowed to not speak to him again. But then I remembered how sweet he’d been the previous night. Could something have happened? My anger began to fade into worry, my mind swirling with a hundred possibilities.I snapped my fingers, trying to shake off the negative thoughts. “Wha
