LEONARD’S POV:

Then I turned my attention back to driving. Even though this was supposed to be exciting news on a normal day, we couldn't celebrate it.

"I'm hungry," Evelyn said. I gave her a questioning look.

I turned the car onto another route as we started looking for a restaurant. We eventually found one and walked inside. The meal was nice, and I realized I was also hungry. After eating, we didn’t leave immediately; we stayed for a while to relax.

Then a call came to my phone. I took it out and saw it was a new number. Surprisingly, I hesitated before answering, wondering who it could be.

“Good day, sir,” a voice said on the other end.

I tried to recognize the voice but couldn’t.

“I’m from the press hub,” the voice continued.

My interest piqued. “What’s the situation?” I asked urgently.

“We have three offers right now,” he said.

A wave of excitement washed over me for a moment.

“Alright, I need their details immediately,” I said and hung up.

I turned to speak to Evelyn, only to realize she had already fallen asleep. I smiled slightly and tapped her gently.

“Hey, babe. We need to get you comfortable,” I said.

I helped her and got her into the car. Instead of driving back to the hospital, I headed straight home. When we arrived, I helped her out of the car and into the bedroom. She was half asleep the entire time. I laid her on the bed, and she immediately fell into a deep sleep.

I went downstairs with my laptop and started working on some files for my office while occasionally checking my phone for updates from the press. After what felt like ages, a notification beeped. It was the information I had been waiting for. I forwarded the details to the doctor and called him immediately.

“Good afternoon, sir,” the doctor said as soon as he answered.

“I’ve sent you some details. I need you to contact them and make confirmations,” I said briefly, skipping pleasantries.

“Okay, sir. I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m done,” he replied, then hung up.

Feeling slightly more at ease, I returned to my work. A short while later, Evelyn’s phone started ringing. I checked the caller ID—it was my mom. I picked it up almost immediately.

“Hey, Mom,” I greeted.

“Do you even know this phone?” she asked playfully.

“Evelyn is sleeping, Mom,” I explained.

“I see. How’s she doing?” she asked.

I told her Evelyn was fine and then explained everything that had happened, from Mr. Wyatt’s condition to the court hearing. She sighed deeply and asked if I was sure Evelyn was okay, suggesting we check her blood pressure. I agreed with her.

Before ending the call, I shared the news about Evelyn’s company. My mom was thrilled and promised to call later to congratulate her.

After the call, I went back to work. But exhaustion crept in, and soon, I drifted off to sleep.

When I opened my eyes, I saw Evelyn sitting near me with a damp expression.

“Evelyn!” I called, but she didn’t respond.

I got off the couch and walked toward her.

“Hey, babe,” I called again, but she didn’t budge. Her eyes were fixed on a particular spot. I followed her gaze but saw nothing.

“Say something, please,” I pleaded. My mind was racing, and my heart pounded faster than ever.

She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. It was as if something was caught in her throat. I tried to touch her, but my hand passed right through her.

My heart sank. She wasn’t real. I tried everything, but I couldn’t hold her or get her to respond.

I fell to the ground and wailed, “This can’t be my fate. I can’t lose her. No, I won’t lose her!”

Then, suddenly, she vanished. There was no trace of her left.

“Evelyn!” I screamed, but nothing happened.

“Babe,” I heard her voice call faintly. It felt like something was pulling me from that world, but I didn’t want to leave. I needed to find her.

“Babe,” the voice came again, louder this time.

Forcing my eyes open, I realized Evelyn was standing right in front of me, her large baby bump almost touching my face. It had all been a dream. I was drenched in sweat.

I stood up quickly and hugged her tightly.

“I thought I had lost you,” I said.

“What happened?” she asked.

I sat her down on the couch and explained everything. She assured me she wasn’t going anywhere. We went upstairs and took a shower together.

Afterward, we called my mom. I told Evelyn about her earlier call. When my mom picked up, we had a brief conversation before hanging up.

Just then, my phone rang again. It was the doctor. I answered with so much enthusiasm.

“Two of the three donors are good, so we’ll have to pick one,” he explained.

I sighed in relief.

“No, I’ll make arrangements for both to fly here, just in case,” I said.

“Okay, sir, but they both requested part payment,” he added.

That wasn’t a problem. I sent the payment and ended the call. Evelyn, who was sitting close by, looked confused. I explained everything to her, and her eyes lit up with gratitude.

“Thank you so much,” she said, her voice full of emotion.

“ You shouldn't thank me, your world is equally mine and I'll do anything I can, to make it perfect.” I said to her assuringly.

We hurried to the hospital but stopped to get food along the way. Once there, we shared the good news with the caregiver, who was equally happy.

The doctor soon arrived and called me outside to explain that the donors were on their way and the surgery would commence as soon as they arrived.

Hours later the donors arrived, the doctor took them to his office and they had sometime together, while we waited eagerly.

The nurses going in and out of the doctors office raising my anxiety.

Evelyn's POVI sat in the room, the sound of my thumping heart was louder with the placidness around. As the clock ticked every moment, my body grew more intense in fear and anticipation. How long have I been sitting here? I could barely remember, but I was badly waiting for the doctor to enter the room. But even if he comes, I doubt he could dispel the unease that coiled in my stomach like a slithering serpent. I jerked back from my seat when the door was pushed open. The doctor stepped into the room and made his way to his seat. I furrowed my brows, trying to fathom his expression in order to know my fate, but he had a serious look arched on his face as he passed a paper to me. “What does it say?” I asked, looking at him desperately.“Take a look,” was his only reply as he leaned back against his seat. With a racing heart, I slowly opened the paper and read through it. “Positive?” I turned my gaze to look at the doctor. I stared at him with wide eyes in disbelief. “Doctor… I'm pr

Forcing myself to focus, I tried to move, only to realize that my limbs were unresponsive, weighed down by an unseen force. Desperation etched across my features, I attempted to scream for help, but no sound escaped my lips, trapped in a silent scream of anguish. I heard the room door slammed open and soon a fight ensued.“Evelyn?” That voice… that was familiar and in desperation to find out if my consciousness was playing a trick on me. There was no way I could be hearing the voice of my father…“Evelyn wake up? Are you okay?” The voice came again and this time, I forced my eyes open and a gasp escaped my lips.“Dad?” I called in disbelief. What was going on? What was he doing here? “A-Am I in heaven?” I asked and his brows furrowed.Where was I? I darted my eyes around in wonder, but then he spoke again. “What are you

Being in his arms felt suffocating, I nearly puked. She wore a black dress and behind her was Caleb’s father, matching her outfit. “I heard you were down yesterday,” she pointed out. I had always felt this extreme hate oozing from her but always ignored it: and the few times i’d spilled it to Caleb, he merely waved me off . Perhaps it was time I face the truth without ignoring it. “I'm better now, thank you,” I smiled faintly at her. I wanted it to end already because the memories of Caleb hitting my head with a rod multiple times with eyes glaring at me had began seething into my head. I felt angry, irritated and hurt at my naivety with every moment Caleb stayed beside me. Suddenly, it became too hard to breathe as the emotions weighed on my chest, making it impossible to breathe or think properly. I immediately excus

Evelyn's POVI made my way straight to the bar because it was the only place that could help blow away the cobwebs that were clogged in my heart at the moment. My thoughts were still very heavy with memories of my past life and the things I'd been through. Walking into the slightly warm space with ambient lighting, I went straight to grab an order and drink my sorrows away. I still remembered all of it, every single moment of it, and the dim lights coupled with the hum of the quiet chatting around me seemed to amplify my loneliness. I needed a drink as soon as possible. Sitting at the bar, I gestured towards the bartender. “Whiskey, please.” I requested, flashing a tight-lipped smile that didn't reach my eyes. He disappeared behind the counter and soon popped out again before pouring me a copious amount. I nodded and began to sip on my drink. I thought about the choices I had made, the people I had hurt, and the life I had just left behind. It was all for the best, I wasn't going t

He hated being lost or confused and after everything that happened yesterday at the engagement party, he must have felt exhausted while trying to answer the questions from the guests and worse, from Caleb's parents. “We have a lot to discuss, so sit down,” he gestured towards a couch without waiting for me to explain myself. I could tell that he was angry.“I'm sorry, dad, for not telling you about my plans or explaining why I had to cancel the engagement,” I started. “But the truth is, I don't think I want to get married to Caleb anymore,” I said and waited for him to respond. His brows creased into a hard knot as he stared at me speechlessly. Afterward, she requested to see the twins.“But they had left only yesterday!” I protested. The twins had become a big part of our lives, visiting from time to time. Even though they stayed at their grandparents’ house, their bond with Evelyn remained strong. They were so fond of her that they never wanted to leave whenever they came over. The feeling was mutual.“But I miss them,” she said, pouting her lips. “We won’t stay long; it’ll just be a brief visit.”“I know, but the doctor said you need rest. You should get some,” I tried to convince her. But Evelyn wasn’t one to give up easily.Eventually, she succeeded in convincing me instead.
