Evelyn's POV

It was Leonard, he was carrying the baby, the excitement in his face before I slept off had vanished.

 “ Babe, what's going on?” I asked.

But he didn't say anything, his head was just bowed down slightly, as if finding answers from the baby.

My mind started reeling with several thoughts, I knew he had gone to see my dad, did he not like the child?

“ Say something.” I said desperately.

“ I'm sorry Evelyn.” He said but then paused again, his lips shaking.

The door of the room opened again, and the Caregiver walked in.

She was also cold. I became confused.

“ Was anything wrong with my baby? I asked myself.

“ Babe you have to be strong, I'm sorry Mr Wyatt. He didn't complete his sentence when I realized what he was trying to say.

My dad was dead, Mr Wyatt was dead. My life was over, literally what came to my mind.

“ Noo, no, say something else.” I said, tears streaming down my face.

It became difficult to breathe. I was choking on air. I wept bitterly on the bed, Leonard tried to calm me down but he couldn't. I cried until I couldn't any more.

“ Sorry ma'am.” The caretaker sent her condolences, she tried to speak but seeing that I wasn't listening to her she kept quiet and just quietly sympathized with me.

The baby started to cry and Leonard picked him up from the bed he had dropped him.

“ How can fate be so cruel to me? Why ?” I asked more like a whisper. And continued crying.

Time flew so fast and then evening calm, I had tried to manage my pains at the time, I had also accepted my fate.

I felt super better, I didn't feel any pain any more. Everything was now normal.

I requested that I needed to see my dad's body. Leonard took me there and then we left the baby with my dads caregiver.

As we entered the cold room, the collector directed us to my dad's cabinet.

He opened it. I took a look, I held the tears that threatened to fall from my eyes. Leonard rubbed my shoulders gently.

After I spent enough of the time I needed. We left back to my hospital room.

Then Leonard's phone started to ring. It was his mom. “ Please, what room are you in?” She asked gently from the phone. Leonard asked where she was and went out to get her. It didn't take so much time before they arrived together.

“ Oh my darling, I hope you're fine.” She said immediately she walked into the room. She walked towards me and embraced me into a hug.

As she gave her condolences, tears were dropping from her eyes, triggering mine. But I was determined not to shade them.

“ It's alright. I'm fine. I have you and Leonard still.” I said to her, she loosened her grip on me a bit and tried to relax herself. Then she turned to the baby. And took him from the caregiver’s hands.

She admired the baby for a while. While everything was over the doctors came in and discharged us from the hospital.

Leonard drove us all to The house_His mansion.

The caregiver had decided to stick around until everything was fine, I was so grateful to her, she has been more like a sister to me and I appreciate her So much. “ Thank you for Everything.” I said to her, remembering that she had done more than her job required.

“ I have also been rewarded unmatched to the work I have done, and this is the only way I can pay back.” She said politely.

Just then my phone started ringing. When I checked the caller it was my secretary.

I picked it up and she congratulated me. I answered and we had a little more talk before we parted.

I would have wondered how she got the information, but then Leonard is saying celebrity. His news didn't hesitate to make the social media.

The press and media bloggers has a way of finding out what was happening.

I also got a call from Samantha’s parents sending their condolences and also congrats.

I asked them to bring the kids over the next day, which they agreed.

Mia and Leonard had proceeded to make preparations for my dad's burial.

While the caregiver was being so helpful.

It was the first time I was holding the baby since his birth. I stared at it lovingly and thanked the Goddess for blessing me with such beauty.

My baby, who had beautiful ocean eyes just like his dad, looked so peaceful as he was sleeping. He was still too young to say who he looked like. But I didn't care, his warmth filled my heart with Joy.

I took his tiny hand in mine and kissed it. “ Ma'am your bath is ready. The caregiver’s voice called me, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“ Alright, thank you.” I said and handed the baby to her.

Mia came in after I had my bath and prepared the baby for the evening.

The evening was short for me, I slept so early, I was woken by the sounds Leonard and the baby were making.

It was 4am in the morning.

I woke up to Leonard who was trying difficulty to put the baby to sleep.

“ Let me have him.” I said to him groggily.

“ Thank goodness you're awake.” He said happily.

I smiled and took the baby from him. Then I breastfeed him quickly. Within little time he had slept off. I laid him in bed gently. I tried to sleep back but I couldn't. I was trying to wrap my head around the fact that I had lost my dad. I cried silently. At the time Leonard had gone downstairs. He was helping me with a project in my office.

I became really hot so I stepped into the bathroom a d had a quick bath.

As the water cascaded on my body, the temperature sent chills to my nerves and I felt better. Coming out of the bathroom I went downstairs. Only to see his mom assisting him with the work.

I smiled at how lucky I am and joined them. And then soon the morning was wearing in fast.

When it was 7am we had finished with the work. Mia retired to sleep and then the caregiver came out of her room. Leonard had assigned a room to her.

Evelyn's POVI sat in the room, the sound of my thumping heart was louder with the placidness around. As the clock ticked every moment, my body grew more intense in fear and anticipation. How long have I been sitting here? I could barely remember, but I was badly waiting for the doctor to enter the room. But even if he comes, I doubt he could dispel the unease that coiled in my stomach like a slithering serpent. I jerked back from my seat when the door was pushed open. The doctor stepped into the room and made his way to his seat. I furrowed my brows, trying to fathom his expression in order to know my fate, but he had a serious look arched on his face as he passed a paper to me. “What does it say?” I asked, looking at him desperately.“Take a look,” was his only reply as he leaned back against his seat. With a racing heart, I slowly opened the paper and read through it. “Positive?” I turned my gaze to look at the doctor. I stared at him with wide eyes in disbelief. “Doctor… I'm pr

Forcing myself to focus, I tried to move, only to realize that my limbs were unresponsive, weighed down by an unseen force. Desperation etched across my features, I attempted to scream for help, but no sound escaped my lips, trapped in a silent scream of anguish. I heard the room door slammed open and soon a fight ensued.“Evelyn?” That voice… that was familiar and in desperation to find out if my consciousness was playing a trick on me. There was no way I could be hearing the voice of my father…“Evelyn wake up? Are you okay?” The voice came again and this time, I forced my eyes open and a gasp escaped my lips.“Dad?” I called in disbelief. What was going on? What was he doing here? “A-Am I in heaven?” I asked and his brows furrowed.Where was I? I darted my eyes around in wonder, but then he spoke again. “What are you

Evenly’s POV“Oh and there is our couple,” his mother's voice made me pause, and he finally pulled away. I couldn't be any less thankful for the timely interruption. Being in his arms felt suffocating, I nearly puked. She wore a black dress and behind her was Caleb’s father, matching her outfit. “I heard you were down yesterday,” she pointed out. I had always felt this extreme hate oozing from her but always ignored it: and the few times i’d spilled it to Caleb, he merely waved me off . Perhaps it was time I face the truth without ignoring it. “I'm better now, thank you,” I smiled faintly at her. I wanted it to end already because the memories of Caleb hitting my head with a rod multiple times with eyes glaring at me had began seething into my head. I felt angry, irritated and hurt at my naivety with every moment Caleb stayed beside me. Suddenly, it became too hard to breathe as the emotions weighed on my chest, making it impossible to breathe or think properly. I immediately excus

Evelyn's POVI made my way straight to the bar because it was the only place that could help blow away the cobwebs that were clogged in my heart at the moment. My thoughts were still very heavy with memories of my past life and the things I'd been through. Walking into the slightly warm space with ambient lighting, I went straight to grab an order and drink my sorrows away. I still remembered all of it, every single moment of it, and the dim lights coupled with the hum of the quiet chatting around me seemed to amplify my loneliness. I needed a drink as soon as possible. Sitting at the bar, I gestured towards the bartender. “Whiskey, please.” I requested, flashing a tight-lipped smile that didn't reach my eyes. He disappeared behind the counter and soon popped out again before pouring me a copious amount. I nodded and began to sip on my drink. I thought about the choices I had made, the people I had hurt, and the life I had just left behind. It was all for the best, I wasn't going t

Evelyn's POV“Evelyn, where have you been all these time? Have been trying your number, but I got no response from you. Do you know he was worried? I was also scared,” my father's voice resounded in the living room as he flared up? I was somehow expecting this reaction. He hated being lost or confused and after everything that happened yesterday at the engagement party, he must have felt exhausted while trying to answer the questions from the guests and worse, from Caleb's parents. “We have a lot to discuss, so sit down,” he gestured towards a couch without waiting for me to explain myself. I could tell that he was angry.“I'm sorry, dad, for not telling you about my plans or explaining why I had to cancel the engagement,” I started. “But the truth is, I don't think I want to get married to Caleb anymore,” I said and waited for him to respond. His brows creased into a hard knot as he stared at me speechlessly. He seemed confused again. “I don't understand. This is the same guy that

Evelyn's POVThe morning sunlight streamed through the large windows of my father's office, bathing the room in a warm glow. I sat across from him, feeling slightly tense as I watched him go over some company reports. His expression was unreadable, a combination of stern focus and fatherly concern. I couldn’t help but wonder if he truly believed I could handle all this responsibility.“You wanted to learn, Evelyn,” he said finally, setting the papers down and fixing his sharp eyes on me. “Running a company like this isn’t about making speeches and shaking hands. It’s about decisions, hard ones. Do you think you’re ready for that?”I nodded, though my heart pounded in my chest. “I know it’s a lot, Dad, but I’m ready to prove myself. I just need you to give me a chance.”He leaned back in his chair, studying me for what felt like an eternity. “Alright,” he said at last. “I’ll start by letting you sit in on today’s board meeting. Dana wasn’t the type to check in unless she had an ulterior motive. Still, curiosity tugged at me. What could she possibly want? Her concern felt as genuine as a plastic pearl, but I decided to play along. The next afternoon, I walked into the café, a quiet little spot tucked into the corner of the city. Dana had chosen the table by the window, naturally. She was already seated, her designer sunglasses perched on her head and a delicate teacup in her manicured hands.“Evelyn!” she said brightly, her smile wide enough to show all her teeth. “You look amazing.”“Thanks,” I replied coolly, pulling out the chair across from her. “You wanted to talk?”The waiter approached, and Dana ordered her usual tea with extra honey, explaining how she’d been “under the weather.” I asked for coffee, no frills. EVELYN’S POV:It had been over two months since the failed surgery. My dad had been living on what felt like a miracle ever since. Each day with him was a gift, a fragile thread holding him here. Leonard, Mia, and the caregiver had been the pillars of support I leaned on during those challenging months.Ryan and River visited often, bringing small moments of joy, but today wasn’t about my dad or them. Today, it was my turn on the hospital bed. Inside the labor room, I lay ready—or as ready as anyone could be—to meet the life I had carried for nine months. The pain I felt was incomparable, beyond anything I’d ever imagined.I clung tightly to Leonard’s hand. He stood beside me, his calm voice trying to pierce through my haze of agony. “You’re doing so well, babe. Just a little more.”A doctor—or maybe a nurse or midwife—entered the room, her expression calm yet purposeful. I knew it was time. She held a syringe, walking briskly toward me.“Hello, madam. Afterward, she requested to see the twins.“But they had left only yesterday!” I protested. The twins had become a big part of our lives, visiting from time to time. Even though they stayed at their grandparents’ house, their bond with Evelyn remained strong. They were so fond of her that they never wanted to leave whenever they came over. The feeling was mutual.“But I miss them,” she said, pouting her lips. “We won’t stay long; it’ll just be a brief visit.”“I know, but the doctor said you need rest. You should get some,” I tried to convince her. But Evelyn wasn’t one to give up easily.Eventually, she succeeded in convincing me instead.
