Chapter 6:

Elena’s POV:

The drive in the car was silent. The only sound I could hear was the sound of the engine.

I sat in the car with Nicklaus beside me, and my mind raced with a lot of things. I couldn't believe my life could change in a blink of an eye.

My happy moment turned into a sad moment when I got dumped by the love of my life on my wedding day and got married to a stranger.

How bad can it get? All my life, I have been doing all my father’s asking of me because I hoped I would be free one day, but now I am in a living hell.

Just then, I wish I could turn back time to yesterday, I thought. My eyes were fixed on the window, and I looked at all the moving vehicles. If I had known, I wouldn't have followed Sarah to the club last night. I would have stayed at home and prepared myself.

I made a little mistake, and now I am paying the price with my happiness. I can't believe I will end the rest of my life with a total stranger just to clear my father’s debt. I was this close to living my best life.

I quickly tilted my head and took a glance at Nicklaus. I only got to know his name at the altar today. He was also looking out for the widow. His jaw clenched, and he slowly licked his pink, soft lips.

I stared lustfully, and I quickly drifted my eyes down to his hands when I perceived something burning. He placed his hand on his thigh as he held a burning cigarette. The smoke curled up, and the smell was all over the car. It smelled horrible.

I couldn't help but stare at him and notice as he blinked his eyelids and smoked his cigarette. I noticed his pointed nose and the way his hair was stylishly curled up. He barely said a word, but his presence filled the entire car, and I felt like a little girl.

Immediately, he turned his head in my direction, and his eyes fell on me. I was caught off guard, so I quickly drifted my eyes and looked out the window at my side. I could still feel his cold eyes staring at me.

“Why are you staring at me?” He asked, and his voice was deep and firm.

My palms became sweaty. I shook my head and opened my mouth to speak. I tried to come up with an excuse, but I was lost for words. “No…nothing.” I stuttered, feeling a little embarrassed.

“Do you smoke?” he asked immediately, raising the smoke.

“No, I don't,” I responded, feeling embarrassed. I didn't know how to tell him that I never liked the smell of cigarettes.

I looked away at the other side of the window. I would be denying it if I said I wasn't embarrassed this whole time. I couldn't believe that caught me staring, and he spoke to me like I was a kid.

Nicklaus creased his brows, and his eyes were still fixed on me. His facial expression hardened. “Then stop staring at me like a lost puppy. You and your family already have what you both wanted. Gold Diggers,” he commented.

I turned to look him in the eyes. This time around, I was bold. My mouth was wide open, and I couldn't believe what I just heard. He's acting like this marriage isn't also beneficial to his family. He seemed different from the person I was with earlier today.

I closed my mouth and looked out the window without saying a word. I asked myself multiple questions in my mind. What have I gotten myself into? I had already imagined the day I would get divorced from him once we both got what we wanted.

This guy seems to be insolent. I can't tell you the way he speaks. I could feel his dark aura. One thing I know now is that I have entered the wrong marriage, trying to save my father's company from going bankrupt.

Another time in my life where I don't know what this will lead to. It may be the beginning of my destruction.

After a few minutes, we arrived at our destination. This mansion looked bigger than I thought. I was here earlier today, and I couldn't believe this is where I spent a night.

Nicklaus quickly got out of the car and slammed the door, which startled me. One of the guards opened the car door for me, and I carefully got down.

“Thank you,” I said to him, and I followed Nicklaus into the mansion.

I quietly walked into the house when the guards carried my luggage from the car. I followed Nicklause to the hallway after climbing the staircase. I looked around; the house was beautifully decorated in white with luxurious furniture.

Nicklaus stopped when he reached the door of his room. He turned backward and stared at me. I halted immediately.

“What are you trying to do?” he asked

“Where’s my room?” I asked boldly. I want to make sure I stand up for myself and not make him belittle me.

“Your room is at the other end of the hallway. Stop walking behind me like a lost puppy,” he said.

I turned back to head to my room, but I stopped. I turned to look at him and approached him. “Let’s not forget you got me into this mess. If only you had minded your business last night, I would have been with the love of my life.” I spoke up to him with my fist clenched at my side.

Nicklaus stood and looked at me. I could notice his expression. He never expected me to talk back at him.

“Meet me at dinner tonight. Let's discuss how to start making a baby,” he said as he walked into his room. Slamming the door and leaving me alone in the hallway.
