Elena’s POV:
The drive in the car was silent. The only sound I could hear was the sound of the engine.
I sat in the car with Nicklaus beside me, and my mind raced with a lot of things. I couldn't believe my life could change in a blink of an eye.
My happy moment turned into a sad moment when I got dumped by the love of my life on my wedding day and got married to a stranger.
How bad can it get? All my life, I have been doing all my father’s asking of me because I hoped I would be free one day, but now I am in a living hell.
Just then, I wish I could turn back time to yesterday, I thought. My eyes were fixed on the window, and I looked at all the moving vehicles. If I had known, I wouldn't have followed Sarah to the club last night. I would have stayed at home and prepared myself.
I made a little mistake, and now I am paying the price with my happiness. I can't believe I will end the rest of my life with a total stranger just to clear my father’s debt. I was this close to living my best life.
I quickly tilted my head and took a glance at Nicklaus. I only got to know his name at the altar today. He was also looking out for the widow. His jaw clenched, and he slowly licked his pink, soft lips.
I stared lustfully, and I quickly drifted my eyes down to his hands when I perceived something burning. He placed his hand on his thigh as he held a burning cigarette. The smoke curled up, and the smell was all over the car. It smelled horrible.
I couldn't help but stare at him and notice as he blinked his eyelids and smoked his cigarette. I noticed his pointed nose and the way his hair was stylishly curled up. He barely said a word, but his presence filled the entire car, and I felt like a little girl.
Immediately, he turned his head in my direction, and his eyes fell on me. I was caught off guard, so I quickly drifted my eyes and looked out the window at my side. I could still feel his cold eyes staring at me.
“Why are you staring at me?” He asked, and his voice was deep and firm.
My palms became sweaty. I shook my head and opened my mouth to speak. I tried to come up with an excuse, but I was lost for words. “No…nothing.” I stuttered, feeling a little embarrassed.
“Do you smoke?” he asked immediately, raising the smoke.
“No, I don't,” I responded, feeling embarrassed. I didn't know how to tell him that I never liked the smell of cigarettes.
I looked away at the other side of the window. I would be denying it if I said I wasn't embarrassed this whole time. I couldn't believe that caught me staring, and he spoke to me like I was a kid.
Nicklaus creased his brows, and his eyes were still fixed on me. His facial expression hardened. “Then stop staring at me like a lost puppy. You and your family already have what you both wanted. Gold Diggers,” he commented.
I turned to look him in the eyes. This time around, I was bold. My mouth was wide open, and I couldn't believe what I just heard. He's acting like this marriage isn't also beneficial to his family. He seemed different from the person I was with earlier today.
I closed my mouth and looked out the window without saying a word. I asked myself multiple questions in my mind. What have I gotten myself into? I had already imagined the day I would get divorced from him once we both got what we wanted.
This guy seems to be insolent. I can't tell you the way he speaks. I could feel his dark aura. One thing I know now is that I have entered the wrong marriage, trying to save my father's company from going bankrupt.
Another time in my life where I don't know what this will lead to. It may be the beginning of my destruction.
After a few minutes, we arrived at our destination. This mansion looked bigger than I thought. I was here earlier today, and I couldn't believe this is where I spent a night.
Nicklaus quickly got out of the car and slammed the door, which startled me. One of the guards opened the car door for me, and I carefully got down.
“Thank you,” I said to him, and I followed Nicklaus into the mansion.
I quietly walked into the house when the guards carried my luggage from the car. I followed Nicklause to the hallway after climbing the staircase. I looked around; the house was beautifully decorated in white with luxurious furniture.
Nicklaus stopped when he reached the door of his room. He turned backward and stared at me. I halted immediately.
“What are you trying to do?” he asked
“Where’s my room?” I asked boldly. I want to make sure I stand up for myself and not make him belittle me.
“Your room is at the other end of the hallway. Stop walking behind me like a lost puppy,” he said.
I turned back to head to my room, but I stopped. I turned to look at him and approached him. “Let’s not forget you got me into this mess. If only you had minded your business last night, I would have been with the love of my life.” I spoke up to him with my fist clenched at my side.
Nicklaus stood and looked at me. I could notice his expression. He never expected me to talk back at him.
“Meet me at dinner tonight. Let's discuss how to start making a baby,” he said as he walked into his room. Slamming the door and leaving me alone in the hallway.
Elena’s POV:I quickly stepped into the room and walked to the king-sized bed. It was a luxurious bedroom painted white. The walls, floor, and ceiling were painted white. The grey carpet was soft and fluffy. The bed was a king-sized bed with a grey wooden frame. The bedding, a white duvet, and pillows were made of silk and satin. A grey matching headlamp and nightstandI walked to the other side of the room and saw a white dresser and a big, beautiful crystal mirror that reflected the room's beauty. I sat on the bed and stared at my reflection. I couldn't believe my life could change in a day. My brain was still processing all that had happened today. Tears filled my eyes, but I decided not to allow myself to break down. I stood up and stripped myself of my dress, walking into the bathroom. I prepared a hot bath with essential oils. Someone had already lit scented candles, and the nice fragrance filled the air. I am not going to think about this anymore. Since Caleb didn't trust m
Elena’s POV:I woke up the next morning with the sun's rays resting on my face. I felt a little uncomfortable with the event if the previous day was still in my mind. I blinked my eyes open and rubbed my eyes with the back of my pants. I could barely get enough sleep from so much thinking last night, no matter how much I tried not to. I remembered that I had to go on a trip with Nicklaus, and I had no idea where we were going. I simply followed his orders, feeling like a puppet on strings. With a frustrated groan, I rolled out of bed and stretched my body. I walked into the bathroom barefoot.I turned on the shower and let the warm water cascade down my body. I scrubbed my body and allowed my muscles to relax.I washed my hair, stretched it out, and began my skincare routine. My eyes were still puffy from crying so much yesterday morning, so I decided to do a little make-up to conceal the dark circles under my eyes. I applied concealer and mascara to highlight my face. I packed my h
Nicklaus’ POV:I pulled away and walked outside the front porch. Elena stood by the doorway, and I could feel her eyes on me as I walked. I'm sure I left her feeling confused. I smirked and bit my lower lips as I stood by the car when my phone started buzzing continuously in my pocket. I picked it up immediately since it was business.I discussed urgent matters that needed my attention and arranged everything before leaving for my trip. I made sure that all the work was done so that I wouldn't be caught up with a lot of work when I was back from the trip. I stepped inside the car. Elena entered the car from the other side, and the driver started driving. I turned to Elena, but she turned her face to the window, avoiding eye contact with me. I could tell I had made her uncomfortable with what I had done earlier. I smirked a little and looked through my window. I knew the game that I had just played with her, and I knew it wouldn't be easy for her to resist my charms. I could still
Elena’s POV:I felt a gentle hand tapping my shoulder. I stirred on the warm surface I was lying on. It felt so comfortable and warm that I didn't want to wake."Wake up, Elena." I heard a familiar voice. It was deep and firm. I stirred again.“Elena, we just arrived at the airport; wake up. We have to board the plane right now.” and that's when I quickly opened my eyes. I looked up to see that I was holding the handsome billionaire, Nicklaus, who is now my husband.I slowly pulled away, and my cheeks reddened with embarrassment. I looked away, trying to hide from the embarrassing situation. Nicklaus stepped down from the car. He extended his hands to help me out of the car. I hesitated. He gave me a questioning look, and I extended my hand and stepped out of the car. I took a step forward, and I almost lost balance. I placed my hand on the car, and Nicklaus walked to me. He placed his hands on my waist to support me. “Are you alright?” he asked.I looked up at him and tried to co
Nicklaus POV:I finished my glass of wine and decided to get some work done. I picked up my laptop and continued working on the ongoing project. I looked at Elena with my side eyes, and she avoided my gaze.I could not remember the last time I was ignored, especially by a lady. It had never happened, and I couldn't understand why Elena was avoiding me even though the flight attendant was shooting her shot with me. Who wouldn't want a wealthy and handsome billionaire like myself? I didn't even know if I should be amused by it or mad at her for ignoring me.I focused on my laptop and continued working. I heard some noise, and Elena stirred in her seat. She was acting as if she were uncomfortable, and she kept tossing around in her sleep. That's when I realised that she was truly uncomfortable and needed a proper rest. She must have been very tired and stressed.I loosened my seatbelt and walked up to her, then slowly took off her seatbelt. I gently carried her to the bedroom at the bac
Elena’s POV:I rolled out of bed and followed Nicklaus out of the plane. “Welcome to the Bahamas,” the pilot said. Nicklaus nodded his head. I turned to them and faked a smile, trying to be composed, but I wasn't satisfied with my nap. There was a questioning look on my face. I couldn't believe that we were coming to the Bahamas for our honeymoon, and I never bothered to ask where we were headed on the plane. I hurried to meet up with Nicklaus. “We are in the Bahamas?.” I asked him.He paused and turned to me. “What do you think?” He asked and walked past me. I gave him a daring look. “How rude,” I muttered silently and kissed my teeth. Some SUVs with drivers and bodyguards were already waiting for us on the runway. One of the guards greeted, "Welcome, sir, welcome, ma'am.” He greeted him with his head bowed low. The bodyguards were tall and imposing. They had serious faces and looked intimidating. If I wasn't with Nicklaus, I am sure they wouldn't have given me this much respect.
Elena’s POV:I turned on the hot water in the tub and essential oils to help me relax. Fragrant bubbles started to form. I soaked myself in the water and allowed my muscles to relax. I closed my eyes, exhaled, and let out a deep sigh. After a few minutes, I walked out of the tub and tried a fluffy white towel around my body, feeling softness on my skin. I had to be fast before Nicklaus walked in.I walked to the closet to search for my pyjamas in my box, eager to change into something cosy and go to bed. But as I turned around, I stumbled into something hard. Before I could even process what had happened, Nicklaus placed his hands on my shoulders to steady me. “Are you alright?” he asked, his voice deep.I nodded my head, “Yes, I'm fine.” I replied. He moved his hands to my waist and stared at me for a few seconds. I couldn't look up to him because I was already feeling embarrassed. His body was close to me, and I could feel the heat from his skin. I wondered in my head if he was goi
Nicklaus POV:I lay on the bed, my eyes closed, and I pretended to be asleep, but my heart was beating fast. I couldn't get over the feeling of desire that had been building inside me since I kissed her. She had become my weak point, and it was getting hard for me to control myself. I had planned to do more than that because I desired her and we needed to start our marital duty to produce an heir, but something held me back from touching her. I felt something that I had never felt before. There was a spark, and I felt the heat inside me. I burned for her deep down, and I wished I could have her to myself. The kiss felt different. It wasn't just a normal kiss, like the ones I had shared with other women. I couldn't tell if it was because I was angry that she had another man in mind or if there was a connection. I couldn't help but feel that she had another guy on her mind when I was now married to her. I tried to take the thought off my mind by thinking about something else. My har
