Chapter 54

I watched the sunrise, and I stood elegantly at the sky-view windows in my apartment, looking through the whole city of New York.

The Coleman Company was a tall skyscraper that seemed to stand out among the rest of the buildings. A building that showed power and wealth.

I could feel anger, resentment, and a deep desire to get revenge. I would do anything to make sure that I take back everything this family had taken from me.

I held a glass of whisky and dragged my cigarettes in my mouth, puffing the smoke in the air. The smoke curled around me and scattered in the air.

“It's time to get closer to the Coleman family. Time isn't on our side anymore.” I muttered silently to myself. “I have been on a low for years. I won't keep quiet forever.”

I wondered how they would build their trust in me without figuring out my real identity. I won't let them take everything. Not again.

The memory of my past with the late Mr. Coleman was still fresh in my head. A painful reminder of betrayal and rejection. Even if I had taken my revenge and ended his and his wife’s lives, I still wouldn't feel satisfied.

I took a sip of wine, feeling the burning liquid in my throat. I was ready to put my plan into place. To start something that I would be able to finish in the end.

Flashback to when I was Mr. Coleman’s mistress.

I remembered the way I tried to become pregnant with him and the way I hoped to have a child with him. I had dreamed of starting a family with him and building a life together. Wanting him to love me more than his wife.

But he never wanted a child with me. He made that clear from the start. He told me that I was just a mistress, a plaything, and a distraction from his busy life because his marriage was shaky. He just wanted me, my body, and my attention.

And then I remembered the day I broke the news to him that I was pregnant. I thought that this would change everything—that he would finally see me as more than just a mistress.

I walked into the bedroom; he was sitting on the sofa and smoking cigarettes. He noticed the happy expression on my face.

“I have something to share with you,” I said, my eyes sparkled with excitement.

“What’s it about love?” he asked, raising his eyebrows and staring at me.

“I'm pregnant!” I broke the news, grinning ear to ear.

his facial expression turned serious immediately. He stood up and walked up to me.

“I warned you that I never wanted to settle down with you. I already have a wife and a son. You have been nothing but a mistress to me.” Coleman spoke.

“This is good news. Think of the beautiful family we could start together.” I softly.

He turned to me and grabbed my hair hard. “I am not going to father that baby inside of you. If you know what's good for you, do the needful,” he shouted.

I screamed in pain; tears filled my eyes, and I was on the verge of breaking down.

I felt a twinge of anger and hurt as I remembered that day. I will make sure that the Coleman family doesn't take everything from me. I had a plan to take back control, to take back my life.

I took a deep breath and wiped away the little tear that dropped from my eyes.

Just then, Alex walked into my room; his tall figure filled the doorway. "Hello," he said, walking up to me with a concerned expression. "I've been standing there for some time. Is something bothering you?" Heaked.

I smiled nervously, trying to brush off his worry. "No, nothing," I said, pouring him a glass of whisky and handing it to him. I am hoping to distract him.

But Alex knew me too well. He could see the tension in my body and the anger in my eyes. He could sense the pain growing inside me. "Mum, what's going on?" he asked, his voice soft and concerned. He set the glass down on the table and took a step closer to me.

I took a deep breath, trying to decide how to tell him. I had always been careful about what I shared with Alex, careful not to disturb him with my plans. But then I remembered: It's time. It's time to put my plan into action. It's time to take back control.

"Alex, I need to tell you something," I said. I looked deep into his eyes. "It's about the Colemans," I continued, my eyes locked on his. "I have a plan, a plan to make sure they don't take everything from me."

Alex's expression changed, his eyes narrowing slightly. He knew that I had a history with the Colemans and that they had hurt me in the past. "What kind of plan?" he asked.

I smiled, a fierce determination burning inside me. "A plan to take them down," I said, my voice firm. "A plan to make them pay for what they did to me."

"I won’t let them take away my happiness and still live a fulfilled life. We just take them down.” I spoke. My voice was deep and convincing.

"We'll do it together," he said, his voice firm. "We'll take them down, Mom," he replied, his voice firm and indicating how determined he was.

I nodded, an intense determination burning inside me. I narrowed my eyes and pressed my lips into a thin line. “Let's do it."
