Elena’s POV:
I slowly regained consciousness and blink my eyes open. Everywhere seemed to be blurry, and my body felt numb. I tried to look around and understand my body, but I was too weak to do that. I tilted my head sideways until I could strain my eyes.
There was someone sitting beside me. I could hear the silent noises as if he were calling my name, and his hands reached out to me gently.
“Elena, Elena. Can you see me? How are you doing?” he asked. His voice was calm and soft, and the person reached for my hand.
I opened my mouth to speak, but the words wouldn't come out of my mouth. My throat was dry, and my voice was hoarse.
“What happened?” I asked sluggishly, and my voice was husky. I looked around to see that I was in a completely different environment.
"Easy, Elena, easy... Take it easy.” The voice murmured in a gentle tone.
“Nicklaus, what's going on?” I asked. Trying to keep my cool and understand the situation.
I struggled to pay attention to what was going on with me, but nothing seemed to work out. I felt numb and weak. My body felt different. I felt light in some ways.
My hands were too weak to move, and I gradually moved them to my stomach. I felt some sort of sharp pain. I tried to stay awake, but my eyelids were heavy.
I held my breath and tried to steady myself. My hands rested on my tummy when I felt some sort of cramp.
“Nicklaus,” I whispered; he leaned in closer to me and ran his hands through my hair. “What is going on? Why am I here?” I asked weakly.
I felt sleepy, but I tried to fight the sleep. I didn't want to rest until I got answers. Nicklaus stared at me, and he wouldn't say anything. He just kept calming me down and making me feel like everything was alright, but deep down I knew all wasn't alright.
My hands went to my stomach when I felt something heavy and light at the same time. My lips were chapped, and I felt dehydrated.
I became very tired, and my eyes closed. I was covered in darkness, and I drifted off to sleep.
*****
I woke up from my slumber after some time, and my strength had slowly returned. I opened my eyes slowly and tried to see clearly. Nicklaus was sitting down beside me. His hands were on mine, and he leaned on the bed.
He looked so pale and rough. He didn't look so good, which even made me more curious.
It seemed he had rested enough. He was fast asleep on the sofa, and I could tell that he was very tired. I slowly recalled what happened, and I stretched to look at my tummy.
My hands were on my tummy, and I thought about the baby the whole time. It felt empty, and I was bloated. I couldn't understand what was going on. I just wished somebody would explain to me so that I would understand.
I looked around and saw myself in a hospital. I couldn't feel anything but just pain. I whined in pain as I sat upright. Nicklaus woke up when I moved and tried to sit.
He reached out to me and gently held my hands.
“Elena? Are you okay?” he asked. His eyes scanned my whole body, and he made sure that I was calm.
I looked up to him, “Nicklaus? What's going on? What am I doing in the hospital, and how long have I been here? I asked as I began to panic. My voice was hoarse, and I felt dehydrated.
My voice was hoarse, and I felt my chest tighten. Why do I feel so weak and dehydrated? I wasn't even thinking straight. It could be as a result of the drip and injection that had been induced into my body system.
My lips were dry and chapped. The only thing I wanted right now was answers. I placed my hands on my belly, and I felt empty.
Nicklaus didn't say a word. He just stared at me in silence. He handed me a glass of water to drink, but I declined. I wanted answers.
“Nicklaus, I'm talking to you. Say something.” I spoke, my voice raising. Deep down, I could sense that something had gone wrong. I just couldn't get what it was. I felt empty inside me.
My eyes were fixed on him as I waited for him to speak. I wish I could read his thoughts and know what was going through his mind.
“Elena, you had a crisis, and you passed out,” Nicklaus explained, his gaze moving to the floor. “You were poisoned at the party,” he said, his voice low.
My heart slammed against my chest, and my jaw dropped. “Poisoned? How come?” I asked. That's when I remembered that I was in so much pain that night after we left the party.
I screeched my brows and recalled what had happened at the party. I didn't even have much to drink. It was just a cup of juice. Then how would be poisoned?
“Who would want to poison me?” I asked, and my ears were filling up with tears. “Why me?” I asked with my voice cracking.
“We are still investigating, and we will get to the root of the problem and catch the culprit,” Nicklaus responded. His voice Was barely above a whisper, and he looked sad.
Then I remembered something very important.
“The baby, Nicklaus, what about the baby?” I asked, touching my hands on my stomach to see if I would feel anything. I moved my hands and my stomach, and I felt a little bit of pain. My skin developed goosebumps.
“I'm becoming impatient, Nicklaus,” I shouted, and my mind was already racing with a lot of questions.“How is the baby doing? Where is the doctor?” I asked. But Nicklaus kept quiet. I waited for him to say something, but his silence was killing me already. “Tell me what is going on, please,” my eyes tearing up. Nicklaus leaned close to me. He didn't mention a word to me after throwing so many questions at him. His puffy eyes turned red, and water gathered in his eyes. Just then, I knew that everything wasn't well. He tried to speak, to say something, but the words wouldn't come out of his throat. I quickly removed my hands from Nivklaus’s grip and slid them onto my abdomen. I could feel the emptiness in my stomach. I felt nothing but pain. My heart was beating very fast, and I began to panic. “Nicklaus, say something. I'm pleading. I am in pain. Just say something.” I spoke, my voice trembling. His silence had already given me the message, and I was covered in shock. Fear gripp
Nicklaus’s POV:Three days laterI woke up from my slumber beside Elena, and she was fast asleep. I smiled when I set my eyes on her.I kissed her on the forehead and removed strands of hair from her face. I rolled out of bed to the bathroom.I wished I could stay with her the whole day and spend quality time with her, but I needed to work. I had missed out on a lot, and the whole company project had beat a standstill. Losing a baby has shattered my world. It is such a terrible experience.I had cancelled all of my pending meetings and interviews. I just wasn't ready to talk about it. I couldn't wait to see the investigator so that we could get to the root of the matter. He is bringing the proof, and we will know what really happened at the party. I will make sure that I deal with whoever has a hand in this. The person will pay dearly for it.I felt guilty for not protecting my wife enough. She had a toxic substance in her system, which means she was poisoned. I should have been ther
Elena’s POV:It's been a few days since I was discharged from the hospital. I had been at home and in bed with Zoey by my side.I had not eaten.I had not taken my bath.I had not changed into something fresh or changed my clothes. I refused to drink water. I couldn't sleep at night. I haven't moved or gone out.Grandma left a few days ago, She and Zoey had made sure that I was alright. They always tried their best to clean me up and made sure that I was okay, but I was still like a vegetable with them.Nicklaus left the house earlier this morning, and I didn't know his whereabouts. I didn't know what had happened to me. Zoey stayed with me the whole time. He had been so distant lately, and I could tell that he was grieving as well. People are different, and everybody handles grief differently. Everything and everyone was strange to me at that point. I hated some presence around me, and I just wished my world would end. My pain had been bottling up inside of me, and I felt like
Elena’s POV:What is my stepsister doing here with my husband? He couldn't even resist her touch. He left me alone in this house, and the first thing he could do when he arrived was to find comfort in the hands of another woman. How could they both do this to me? I wondered if they had been seeing each other behind my back. My heart began pounding hard against my chest, and I pinched myself a little to see that I was not dreaming. I wanted to wake up so bad if it was a dream because I couldn't stand it, but it wasn't.I inhaled deeply, my jaw clenched, and I felt the urge to confront both of them, but I couldn't bring myself to do that. I waited to see what his next action would be. If he was going to stop her or not. After a moment, I managed to gather the courage to walk into the bar, but I frozen at that spot when Sarah made erotic advances towards Nicklaus.Tears gathered in my eyes, and my lips were pressed in a thin line as I tried to hold back my tears from falling. I was fil
I watched the sunrise, and I stood elegantly at the sky-view windows in my apartment, looking through the whole city of New York. The Coleman Company was a tall skyscraper that seemed to stand out among the rest of the buildings. A building that showed power and wealth. I could feel anger, resentment, and a deep desire to get revenge. I would do anything to make sure that I take back everything this family had taken from me.I held a glass of whisky and dragged my cigarettes in my mouth, puffing the smoke in the air. The smoke curled around me and scattered in the air. “It's time to get closer to the Coleman family. Time isn't on our side anymore.” I muttered silently to myself. “I have been on a low for years. I won't keep quiet forever.”I wondered how they would build their trust in me without figuring out my real identity. I won't let them take everything. Not again. The memory of my past with the late Mr. Coleman was still fresh in my head. A painful reminder of betrayal and
Nicklaus’s POV:I went into the room, and I recalled what had happened that day at the office.****My eyes widened in disbelief, and my jaw dropped. “What do you mean, my wife Elena? Why would she put her life and the baby at risk?” I snarled.“Sir, that is what the suspect confessed, and there is proof when she was speaking to him while everyone was busy. He confirmed that was the order she gave him.” me, John Spike. I looked at him and shook my head. "No, this isn't true. Tell me you are lying.” I spoke. I slammed my desk hard and stood up. “No way. This can't be happening. Elena did this on purpose to get rid of the pregnancy.” I growled. “I must get to the root of this. Let's go to the station.” I spoke and walked out of the office.Mr. John, the police investigator, followed me from behind. My heart was pounding while we got into the elevator, and my fists tightened at my side. I couldn't wait to get my hand in the waiter. I was already planning how to strangle his life out of
Elena’s POV:I woke up the next morning. My eyes were puffy and red. I didn't have anybody to console me. With what I was going through, I couldn't believe that Sarah would feed Nicklaus those lies about me. How did she get proof to convince him? She must have planned his whole thing right from the onset, just like she did with Caleb. Now she had gotten to Nicklaus. I needed him now more than ever. I felt so alone. I lay in bed, and tears began to roll down, dropping on the bed sheet. I sniffed and wiped my tears after some time. This is the time that I have to be strong. I shouldn't let what happened weigh me down. What Nicklaus was accusing me of would not turn out to be real because I have no idea about it. Getting married to him was the best thing that ever happened to me. I let out a frustrated groan and rolled out of bed. I will go and have a conversation with Nicklaus later in the day. I can't sit down and watch things go south, and all I will do is cry like a weakling. No
Elena’s POV:Nicklaus fixed his eyes on me, and his eyes never left mine. He stared at me and started walking closer to me. I couldn't control myself and get my eyes off him. He looked so hot, and I felt like kissing him. I didn't take a step backwards or forward. I just stood frozen and waited for his reaction. He stood close to me, and I became scared. His eyes were dark, and they bore into mine. I took some steps backwards and continued until my back rested on the door. He stared deeply into my eyes, and his facial expression turned serious. “What do you want to talk about?” He asked, and his voice was deep and stern. He looked at me with so much hatred. My eyes were fixed on his lips, and I was lost in my thoughts. I opened my mouth to speak, but the words wouldn't come out of my throat. It was as if I was losing it. I couldn't control myself anymore. “Elena.” He called my name, and I returned to reality. I quickly shifted my eyes to the other side of the room. “Uh, I,” I stu
