Chapter 114

Nicklaus’s POV:

“Mr. Nicklaus Coleman, Elena has been granted bail.” Mr. John spoke on the other side of the line.

I narrowed my eyes. “What do you mean?” I asked.

“Your father had removed the charges he pressed against Elena with a bail of five hundred thousand dollars,” he spoke.

I quickly stormed out of the herd when Mr. John called to explain the whole process to me. I could not believe that my father allowed the court to grant bail to Elena when he should have just removed the charges that he pressed against her.

I got into my car and zoomed off to my father's house. I needed to see him face-to-face and have a word with him. I need a clear explanation of what happened, and I also need to know why Elena’s lawyer requested that she be set free on bail.

After a short drive, I arrived at my father’s mansion.

I quickly got out of my car and walked into my father's study. He was sitting in his study smoking a stick of cigarettes.

“Why did you storm into my study like that, Nicklays?” my father asked.

“Father, why did the court set Elena free on bail?” I asked, my eyes narrowing and my blood boiling with anger.

My father giggled and puffed his smoke. “Is that what this is all about?” he asked.

“Yes, father. Where do you expect her to get the money and pay you off? It's not like her family would assist her.” I spoke, my voice rising.

“You should take it easy on yourself, Nicklaus. Killing yourself and fighting for a woman who will only hurt you in the end is not worth it. Her lawyer pleaded with the court to do so. I have them the go-ahead to make things easier for her,” my father spoke.

I gave him a daring look as he dragged and puffed his cigarette. “Do not stand there staring; come have a seat,” my father spoke.

Immediately, I turned to my heels and walked out of the door. “Nicklaus, Nicklaus,” my father called, but I didn't respond. I didn't want to exchange words with him.

“Don't you dare walk out on your father,” he growled, his voice raising in anger.

“Watch me do it right now,” I muttered silently to myself and walked out of the house. I felt really exhausted with the whole thing. My love for wealth and power won't let me call off everything, and even if I did, Elena wouldn't accept me back. It's not like I don't have a choice.

I drove in the streets of Los Angeles. My head is fully with Elena’s thoughts. I don't even know how she is doing right now. I felt bad that my father didn't just remove the charges; rather, he took half a million because of the damages.

“What do I do?” I asked myself silently as I placed my hand on my forehead. Immediately, I decided and headed to the road that led to Alex's house.

After a short while, I arrived at Alex’s house. This time around, I wasn't going to leave until I saw Elena. I just want to have a word with her and to apologise for what I had done wrong.

I stood outside the building with a heavy heart. I had wronged her in so many ways, and I really want to apologise and make things right between us. I miss her so much, and the thought of staying without her for the rest of my life was unbearable.

I took a deep breath and dragged my heavy feet to the elevator upstairs to the last floor, and I rang the doorbell.

Immediately, the door was swung open, and Alex stood at the doorway again. I let out a frustrated. He gave me a daring look. Hisbeges were challenging me.

“You again? What do you want, Nicklaus?” He asked, lowering his voice.

“Elena. I am here for Elena,” I spoke, placing my hands in my pocket, trying to appear calm.

He raised an eyebrow. “Like I said the last time, she is not here. Or do you want me to keep repeating myself?.” he asked.

My blood boiled with rage, and immediately I walked up to him, taking a few steps closer. “Let me see her now. Enough of your bullshit,” I growled, my voice raising. I was getting frustrated already.

Just then, I heard a voice from behind Alex, a voice that made me still, “Zoey, I can't believe I am finally a free woman. I still need to prove my innocence. At least I can do whatever,” the voice trailed off, and Elena appeared behind Alex. “Alex, who is at the door? What's going on?”

Elena appeared behind Alex just in time, and he reluctantly moved to the other side of the doorway with his eyes not leaving mine. It was as if he was daring me to do something.

Elena stepped into the doorway, and her gaze fell on me, and she froze at that spot. Her eyes widened in shock, and her jaw dropped.

She looked like she had seen a ghost. I froze at that spot, my lips slightly parted, and I didn't know what to say anymore.
