I stood frozen, my eyes locked on the familiar stranger before me. The name echoed in my mind and clung to me like an undying curse. Five years had passed since he shattered my world, yet the wound still throbbed like an open sore.
I gulped down hard, consumed by his potent scent. My eyes faltered, and I blinked severally, trying to calm myself down. Anya, my wolf, was beginning to get upset, wanting to come off. She was as hurt by his betrayal as I had been.
His eyes, once bright with warmth, now seemed to hold a mixture of surprise, written off with guilt. My hands tightened on its palm as the feeling of anxiety mixed with resentment snaked through me.
The surrounding air thickened with tension, and the movement of everyone seemed to pass like a blur as my eyes locked in an intense moment with Adrian.
He moved a step closer, and I broke the moment, rolling my eyes away as I turned around to leave, when his husky and miserable voice called my name.
“Au-Aurora?” He called, with a shaky tone.
I forced Anya to calm down, whispering to my wolf who wanted to eat this man alive. She had been sick for several weeks, hurt and heart bleeding from Adrian's betrayal and rejection.
As he approached me, the air thickened with tension. I could feel my heart racing, my palms growing slick with sweat. The memories came flooding back–the laughter, the tears, the lies. My mind screamed at me to go away, but my legs refused to move.
"Aurora," he whispered my name again, his voice low and hesitant.
I couldn't respond. My voice was trapped in my throat, suffocated by the emotions swirling inside me.
I spun around again. His eyes searched mine, as if seeking forgiveness or redemption. But I had none to give.
The silence between us grew heavier, a breathing entity that threatened to consume me. I felt like I was drowning in the depths of his gaze, unable to escape the pain he had inflicted upon me.
Alessandro had not moved, watching the moment. I had no idea what could have been going through his own head, but I had to make my way from here as quickly as possible.
Like a spark igniting a flame, my anger erupted. "Adrian," I spat, my voice venomous. "What are you doing here?"
His eyes faltered, but he took another step closer. "I—"
I raised a hand, halting him. "Don't. Just don't."
The words hung in the air, a challenge, a warning. The past and present collided in that moment, leaving me seething with rage. Whenever I thought about it, it made me want to kill him, have revenge on him in the cruelest way possible.
“Mommy, who is this?” Kieran asked, raising his eyes to look at Adrian.
His eyes reverted to my child, and my heart thudded in an instant. Adrian's eyes narrowed, looking closely at my boy beneath me. I prayed in my mind that he would say nothing about it, but from the inquisitive look on his face, I guessed he had suspected.
“Aurora, who–”
“Let's go,” I turned to Alessandro, pressing my lips into a thin line as a cloud of thoughts hung over my head. My forehead was creasing with sweat from the intense pressure I felt within me.
“Aurora, you–”
Andro stepped in front of me, blocking him from reaching out to me, marching into the challenge. Their eyes locked in a pulse-pounding moment, their striking aura bursting in the atmosphere.
“What the hell are you doing?” Adrian asked, gnashing his teeth. His eyes were lit with rage.
“She already told you to leave. I'm guessing you don't have ears,” Andro challenged with strong words. The tension was palpable, and my hands tightened around Kieran, who was staring at the face-off.
“You seem to be a hero, don't you? Who are you to step into my way? I just want to speak to my–”
“Kieran, l-let’s go inside,” I said, leaning downward towards my child. I grabbed him in my arms, and Alessandro stared at me.
“Please, I will be inside.”
“Aurora, I–” Adrian attempted to come forward, but Alessandro wouldn't let him, pressing his shoulders backward with his hands.
“I told you to stay away. To deter your nuisance, I am ready to trounce you right here, Adrian. You better step back,” Andro said. His eyes were burning with resentment for Adrian. I'm sure he must have thought about the past and must have been hurt as deeply as I was.
“You can't stop me from seeing Aurora, Alessandro. I want to–”
“Just go away, Adrian. I don't want to see you,” I said, swallowing my detest for him down my throat. How he shoved hurtful words at me in the past, while rejecting me, leaving me to suffer the inevitable fate of getting banished, humiliated, and being homeless, left to carry his child. All these, I won't forget.
He doesn't deserve sympathy, and I wasn't going to spare him any.
Andro’s eyes locked on him as he turned to me.
“Let's go, Aurora,” Alessandro said in a low tone. A glare of anger glued in his eyes. I'm sure he was trying to stop his wolf from coming forward. He curls his arm, and I lock mine in his, while holding Kieran firmly with my other hand, as we walked into the building.
I could sense that Adrian was looking, definitely in shock that I was with someone better than him. Perhaps, he imagined that I would be banned and be a whore and rogue, left to suffer shame and disgrace, but his plans have now backfired.
The love I bore for him a long time ago had now been replaced by resentment and disdain for him, and there was no going back. I have a new family now, and I won't sacrifice them for anything; definitely not for him.
He was now a past, one that I want to forget forever.
Alessandro POV I couldn't believe that after all these years, the goddess would decide to bring back, like an unwanted memory, the man who betrayed my Luna and an enemy of my own, Adrian. As much as I didn't want to think about it, it was getting me more perturbed than I had imagined. The scene replayed in my head. How his deceitful eyes held what seemed like remorse, and how he came close to Aurora while she looked at him with faltering eyes. All of it just made me worried. I was starting to feel lost in everything. I didn't know why, but the sensation burning through me wasn't good. It was like an alert, an alert of a future danger. As much as I wanted to forget, I wouldn't make the mistake of treating the whole situation blithely. I shrugged as my eyes scanned the entire hall. The celebration was in full swing, and typically, the Alphas would have a private meeting with the Alpha King to discuss issues, while the rest of the guests were served food and drink. Aurora POV “Forget about everything we had, Aurora. Last night was only a mistake. Erase it all from your memory.” I froze in shock, stifling a gasp. Fear ripped through me as I heard the words of the man standing in front of me. His eyes were cold, glaring at me with pure disdain. I raised my brow in surprise. My mind held a cluster of thoughts, and I was utterly confused, speechless by how he was behaving.“What do you mean? Forget about what exactly?” I asked him, with anxiety running through me already. “Everything. About last night, us together, our love story, our relationship. Everything. Forget about it. I want you to forget about whatever we had together. I only used you for my own lusty desires, nothing more,” he said, running his hand over his face, covering it. I gasped in surprise. Who was the monster in front of me? This wasn't the man I knew last night, the man I knew for years, my loving boyfriend. Why was he acting so cold? The thoughts swept across my mind li
I turned around, and behold, the man I feared the most in this world – my father. He stood tall, glaring at me with bloodshot red eyes. No one needed to tell me that I was in hot soup. My fingers knotted behind my back, and I swallowed hard, digesting my heart throbbing in my throat.“I… I didn't want to disturb the peace of the house, so I…”“You tried to sneak in? Where were you last night?” He cut me off before I even stuttered out the lies. I felt a thud in my chest, and shook my head immediately as I cleared my throat.“I had to get something important, father. Unluckily, I didn't find what I was looking for, so I had to lodge at night, and come home today, because it was late,” I replied, straightening up. I didn't know how bad of a liar I was and I could read the suspicion in his eyes, proof that he didn't believe me.“And what was that? What did you want to get that made you stay away?” “Eh… uh… it was…”“I will talk about this matter later, and if I find out you are lying
Three Weeks Later.“What the hell did you just say? That's not possible!” My father growled, staring with fiery eyes at the doctor, burning with rage. “That's what the test says, Alpha Ambrose. I dare not lie to you, Alpha,” the doctor, an elderly and fairly aged man, trembling in front of my father, said.“What did you say? What's wrong with her?”“She's pregnant.” My heart stopped beating for a fraction of a second, and my guts sank. The news resounded in my ear, and I wondered if I heard right. I had felt sick for the past weeks, and my father had the pack doctor come examine me. “No way! My daughter cannot be pregnant. How the hell is that even possible?” Dad said, furiously. The anxiety was beginning to spring up in me, and I felt my bones weakening. My head was clouded with a lot of thoughts about how I could be pregnant. It wasn't that I didn't know the cause, yet, it was just that this was the end for me.“That's what the test says, Alpha. She has been throwing up and ha
Alessandro POVMy wolf, Xander, attacked them. I trusted that I could kill them all because I had a very strong wolf. Xander got some bruises but made sure to maul all of the rogues to death. I could scent the blood, the strong scent of iron as Xander howled loudly in the chilly night. I shifted back to human form and quickly put back my clothes on. I shifted my gaze to the person beside me. There she was, lying unconscious on the floor. If my instincts hadn't led me to find her, she would have been killed by these bloody rogues.“Fuck,” I cursed and bent down to check on her.“Aurora? Aurora!” I tried to make her wake up, but it seemed like my suspicions were confirmed. The shock must have been too much, and she probably fainted. Her pulse was weak, and I knew that I had to take her back immediately to my pack, or else, it could worsen; she could die. I knew it, felt it, tasted it - every bit of betrayal, and it was sad that my soon-to-be Luna was already pregnant for someone who
“Alpha, your father is here!” Cayden, my Beta rushed into the room, his voice laced with worry. His loud call was enough to jerk me up from my slumber. I didn't realize when I fell asleep, but what I did know was that Aurora was beside me, still unconscious. I rubbed the sleep off my eyes as I stared at the panicking body language of my Beta.“What's wrong, Cayden?” I asked him.“Your father is here. He's rushing to this room immediately, and he's furious,” he said. I look at him with surprise. How did the information get to my father immediately that I came home late last night? As much as it was what was on my mind, I hoped it wasn't what I was thinking.“What? Why is he angry?” Cayden grew silent. The guilty expression on his face gave me the answers I needed. He had spilled everything to my father. “Eh… I'm really sorry Alessandro, I just…”“You told my father that I brought her here, didn't you?” I asked.“I didn't have any choice. 9 MONTHS LATER"And it's a bouncy baby boy.” The words rang in my ears, waking my faint heart from the rest I had longed for. I muscled myself to sit up from the bed, raising my head to look at the nurse who was in front of me. She handed him to me, his mildly heavy body landing in my arms. Immediately, a bundle of joy gushed over my heart. I smiled, gazing with love and compassion into his dearly eyes. “M-my baby.” Tears stung my eyes as emotions flooded over me. It was a very long and hard labor. After several hours of agony, my baby survived. That was my biggest happiness. “You can feed him now. I will be back to administer some drugs,” she said, turning around to leave the room, sparing me a moment with my newborn. Tears rolled down my cheeks, as strong guilt ripped through me. The resentment of my mistake overwhelmed the joy of my baby. If only it had never happened. I wish I wasn't left to carry his child all alone. “Luna, Alpha Alessandro is waiting. He asks for your presence.” I turned around, distracted from staring at my figure in the mirror, and looked at my personal maid, who wore a sweet contagious smile that exposed her pearly white teeth. She walked into the room and bowed her head at me. Today was a special occasion. It was the annual meet of Alphas, hosted by the Alpha King of the City and, of course, Alessandro was to be in attendance, and I had to follow him there, my first time doing so. I didn't perform many duties as a wife; never once did I consider myself one. Alessandro and I had become really close, and he whisked the responsibility of being the father of my child. Then, after becoming the Alpha of the pack, he announced me as his Luna–a night I still remember to this day. Flushing the thoughts down the drain, I looked at the two ornaments that laid on the polished table, unsure of what to choose. For over ten minutes, I had been stuck on which to wear, making sure I look
