10. Fiery Dispute.

Alessandro POV

I couldn't believe that after all these years, the goddess would decide to bring back, like an unwanted memory, the man who betrayed my Luna and an enemy of my own, Adrian. As much as I didn't want to think about it, it was getting me more perturbed than I had imagined.

The scene replayed in my head. How his deceitful eyes held what seemed like remorse, and how he came close to Aurora while she looked at him with faltering eyes. All of it just made me worried. I was starting to feel lost in everything.

I didn't know why, but the sensation burning through me wasn't good. It was like an alert, an alert of a future danger. As much as I wanted to forget, I wouldn't make the mistake of treating the whole situation blithely.

I shrugged as my eyes scanned the entire hall. The celebration was in full swing, and typically, the Alphas would have a private meeting with the Alpha King to discuss issues, while the rest of the guests were served food and drink. The place stunk of strong cologne and pungent wolf scent.

“Oh, Alpha Alessandro, here you are,” a familiar voice hit my ears. I turned around and plastered a smile on my face.

Alpha Prince Kian was the eldest son of the Alpha King, a friend of my father. He was powerful and diligent to work and shouldered a lot of responsibilities, making me prefer him to his douchebags of brothers.

“Oh, yes. I just arrived now,” I told him. He nodded at me.

“The meeting is about to start soon. Please be there,” he said, and I nodded at him.

“Of course. Just give me a minute.” He walked off immediately, and I returned my gaze to Aurora. She seemed lost, eyes rolling, staring around with a quiet Kieran. I snapped my fingers at her.

“What happened? You seemed lost.”

“Uh…” she paused, looking around with shaky eyes. “I was just observing the place. It looks beautiful,” she added. She wore a worried expression on her face, as if she was afraid, and it made me wonder. If my Luna was troubled, I couldn’t rest.

“Are you sure you're alright?” I asked again for a confirmation.

“Yes,” she said, and smiled.

“Daddy, when am I going to see the Alpha King? Grandpa tells me a lot about him,” Kieran said excitedly. I squatted, placing my hand on his cheeks.

“Don't worry, my boy. You'll see the Alpha King soon. I will introduce him to you.”

I'm sure my father must have told Kieran about Alpha King Leo since they were close friends. Kieran might be young, but my father wasted no time in grooming him about wolves and mates, and shockingly, he was insisting on starting training for him at the pack grounds. Just too much.

“All rise for the Alpha King. Welcome the Supreme Alpha Leonardo Greenwood and his Luna, Alpha Queen Penelope Blackwood!”

Everybody arose, bowing down to acknowledge the graceful presence of the Alpha of Alphas, who was the host for the meeting today. Aurora did the same, and watching Kieran's eyes sparkle with a glow of enthusiasm.

He entered through the double doors that opened to the hall, with a bunch of guards surrounding him, and made his way to the Alphas’ Council Chamber with his Luna by his side. She was the only female allowed into the meeting of Alphas, as per the customs of the City.

“I think the meeting starts now. I will have to go, leaving you and Kieran behind. Make sure to stay safe,” I informed her. She nodded, gulping. A tad of anxiety flickered in her eyes. I had noticed that she was looking around all the time.

“Are you sure you're okay?”

“Yes, I am,” she said, suddenly wearing a smile.

“Okay, then. Kieran, listen to momma, okay? When I'm done in the meeting, I'll introduce you to the Alpha King,” I said, and he giggled.

“Yes, daddy!”

“The feast is starting soon. There will be numerous performances. You can sit down and wait, and enjoy yourself,” I said, and she gave an assuring smile.

I turned around to head to the Council Chamber, ascending the winding staircase that led to an elevator. Reaching there, I press the button to the third floor. The stairs leading to the Chamber hall were usually busy and long, so I had to use this.

The meeting hall had soundproof glasses that prevented any noise that may usher from the main ground.

I walked into the hall with my face buried to the ground after smiling falsely at some of the alphas. The meetings weren't particularly boring, but I detested to the death the likes of the cunning Alphas in attendance.

The meeting had begun when I stepped in. Not a lot of people paid any attention, and I sat down immediately, landing my hands on the large circular conference table, heaving a sigh.

Five minutes in, and my thoughts had already consumed me. My mind flashed back to earlier. Adrian, Aurora. The picture in my head couldn't fade away, not heeding to my command to die away.

“Alpha Alessandro, what do you think?!” The thick voice thundered the silent room, followed by a deafening bang on the polished desk. I raised my head, shaking off my thoughts, as I looked at all alphas’ eyes on me.

Fuck. What was I doing? This was embarrassing. I must have been so lost in thoughts that I had no idea what they were talking about.

“Ah…yes,” I stuttered.

Leo's eyes widened in surprise. I'm sure he must have been astonished by my unusual lackadaisical attitude towards this meeting. I was always paying attention during the others in the previous years, but this time, something else occupied my mind.

“The bloke wasn't even listening. I'm sure he must not be concerned,” Tyler, the King's youngest son, and Alpha of the Lakewood Pack, said and I rolled my eyes at him. He planted a mischievous smirk on his lips, returning the glare.

What a fucker. If not for his father, he wouldn't have taken over a pack that didn't belong to him. Not to mention that he's also 22, the youngest in this meeting.

“Hold it, Tyler. I sure was listening,” I blasted in a retort.

“Okay, then, what is the solution to the problem at hand?” He asked.

Fuck. He was striking the last strands of patience in me. I felt like punching him. There was just someone whose daily job was to ruin your day, either by their actions or existence.

“Speaking like you listen at times,” his older brother, Kian, defended. He was better than the younger piece of shit.

“Don't interfere, Kian. Your younger brother is right. Alpha Andro has ruined us with his torpid presence. What's going on, Andro?” She asked, wearing concern on her face that made me realise I was in trouble.

If only Cayden was here, he'd bail me out of this mess with what to say. Too bad he's caught up with issues in the pack.

“Well, I was thinking about something else,” I admitted, running my hands through my head as I lowered my head in embarrassment.

“Fucking kiddo. Only pretending to be a great heir to your father's throne. Once you became alpha, you've become a dickhead.” Tyler threw the insults at me. I gnash my teeth, feeling a surge of anger course through my system.

“Well, at least I didn't take over a pack belonging to my rejected mate's husband after killing him,” I fired back. His cheeks burned with anger as murmurs erupted in the room.

Now, everyone was going to know about his rebellion. That's what he gets for getting on my nerves. The first year of becoming an alpha, and he was feeling on top of the world.

Immediately, a loud shattering of glass bursted out in the room, making everyone's eyes roll, having flinched at the sound.

 No fucking way.

What did I just do?
