Pacing back and forth in the hallway, Catherine couldn't restrain the feeling of anxiousness coursing through her.
Then she finally heard the front door knob turn, and her lips drew upward into a smile as she stared at the door opened.
"Hey, wife." Rome softly said as he walked towards her.
Although Catherine had a stressful matter on her mind to tell him, when he was just a step away from her, she couldn't resist the urge to tiptoe towards his lips and kiss him for a couple of minutes, closing her eyes to let the excitement she felt sink deeper.
Then Catherine finally pulled back, balanced her feet on the tiles, and looked up at him with a hint of annoyance in her eyes.
"What is it?" Rome asked.
Gazing out of the car window, Rome softly sighed and said, "Make a stop at 'Darklight Cafe." The thought of meeting Mr. Aaberg today was stressing his mind, and he decided that black coffee was just what he needed to get through their meeting. After Mr. Orlando had arrived in front of "Darklight cafe," Rome stepped down from the car and headed for the entrance of the building. When he reached the front door and was about to grab the handle, it suddenly opened, and an elderly-looking fellow stepped out of the cafe. Then he stopped, smiled as his gaze fixed towards Rome, and said, "Young Ford," Realizing who the older fellow was, Rome wore a friendly expression and said, "My humble greeting to the Minister of finance." "Forget the formality. Curtis will do just fine." "Okay then, Curtis, it's my pleasure bumping into you here." At first, Curtis wore a smile as he nodded slightly, and then he friendly uttered, " A lo
The entire time Rome sat behind his desk, signing the paperwork, Mr. Aaberg kept staring in disbelief and wondering if it was still a good idea to allow Rome Ford to get involved with Sphinx incorporation."All done," Rome said, dropping his pen on the desk. Then he rested back in his seat, looked at Mr. Aaberg, and asked, "Don't you feel uncomfortable standing like that. There are many chairs here. Take a seat.""Thank you. But the paperwork is already done. I don't see the need to sit down now." Mr. Aaberg humbly uttered.Lifting his shoulder in a half shrug, Rome said with a deadpan expression, "Okay, if you say so."Confused by how chill Rome looked, Mr. Aaberg felt even more anxious now, not knowing exactly where he stood with Rome."Umm… Mr. Ford," Mr. Aaberg muttered, afraid to make eye contact with Rome. Then he paused and carefully processed his words in his head before asking, "There are no hard feelings between us, r
The front door of the greenhouse restaurant opened, and Rome walked inside with Catherine right by him, holding onto his arm.Immediately, when the host saw them, he rushed from behind his desk and approached Rome with a friendly expression on his face. Then he slightly smiled at Catherine, looked back at Rome, and said, "Welcome to 'Greenhouse,' Mr. and Mrs. Ford. Your father is on the top floor. Please follow me."Afterward, he turned around, walking ahead, and Rome followed him with Catherine by his side.A few minutes later, Rome, Catherine, and the host arrived in a fancy room, and in that instant, Rome's gaze rested on his father, and a sigh escaped his lips. Then he led Catherine to the table, looked at Mr. Ford before staring at the faces of those seated with him.'What's going on? I thought this was a breakfast for three!' Rome thought, frowning as he kept gazing at the elderly-looking fellows at the table.Although Mr. Ford'
As Rome watched his father and Catherine chatting happily, he remained silent, admiring the bond between the both of them.A couple of seconds went by. Then a buzzing noise from Catherine's phone caused her to pause and look at its screen, staring at a note reminder.Feeling a bit sad, she looked back at Mr. Ford and said, "I'm sorry, father, but I have a meeting an hour from now, and I have to leave.""Of course, let's schedule another breakfast date the next time you are free." Mr. Ford said, staring gently at her. With a smile on her lips, Catherine nodded happily and said, "Sure."Then she turned to Rome and gave him a quick kiss before leaving her seat.A few seconds after Catherine left, Mr. Ford looked at Rome and asked, "How is she handling things at DreamTeam?""For someone who's running a company with a bunch of people who she shouldn't trust, she's holding up quite well.""People who she shouldn't t
At six on the dot, Rome drove into the parking lot of DreamTeam, and when he stopped the car engine, there was a gentle tap on the windshield. Gazing at the window, Rome smiled and unlocked the car door. Then he waited for Catherine to get in the front seat before asking, "How long have you been waiting out here?" "Just a couple of minutes after telling my driver to go home and that you would be picking me up," Catherine said, wearing her seatbelt. Then she waited patiently for a couple of seconds for Rome to start the car, and when he didn't, she gazed at him. In that instant, Rome looked into her eyes and said, "We need a safe word." "What?" Catherine mumbled, trying to understand him.
Keeping silent, Catherine slightly clenched her fist as she stared at her uncles. Then she gazed at her grandfather and asked, "What is the point of this dinner?" "We think your uncles had gotten enough punishment these past months, and it's embarrassing that we have strangers working at the company, but not family." Mr. Barlow calmly uttered. Without looking at Catherine, Madam Barlow sadly sighed and said, "People talk, and your uncles staying away from the company will look bad for our family reputation. I'm sure they have repented for their sins." Pressing her lips together, Catherine frowned as she stared at her uncles and then gazed at her grandfather, realizing that they didn't want her consent but were afraid to enforce their will on her because of Rome. "Do you want to know what my answer is?" Catherine coldly asked. "Of course, and whatever it is, we will respect it," Elijah said with a half-smile. "Really?"&nbs
It was quiet in the office as Rome pulled all his focus into the document before him, making sure he wasn't missing anything before proceeding to sign it.After Rome got to the final page, a buzzing noise took his attention off the sheet, and he looked at his phone, dropped his pen, and reached for it.The moment he answered the call, Catherine's soft voice echoed into his ear, "Hey, hon, your dad called. He said that he scheduled an appointment for this evening for our clothes fitting for the party, and...""He wants us to go." Rome interrupted, sighing as he rubbed his eyes."Is there a problem? Will you be busy?""No. I will make sure to finish up here early and then pick you up later."The sound of the office door suddenly opening drew Rome's gaze towards the doorway, and he stared at Braden, walking inside."I got to go. But how does picking you up by five sounds?" Rome uttered, not taking his focus off his secretary.
During their entire conversation, this was the first time Rome noticed an honest expression from Amara, and he was now curious about what the look of anger in her eyes meant. "Is there a problem?" Rome asked, trying to push their conversation further so he can get an idea of who he was dealing with before anything else. "No. It's just frustrating that you are being so technical with me. It makes me feel like you are suspicious of me or something." Amara said, giving a weak smile. There was a brief pause as Rome stared intensely at her, wondering if she just had an innocent face or she was simply good at hiding her actual emotions. Then he tapped the desk and said, "Don't worry. I'm skeptical of everyone, except those that I already trust." "Well, if that's the case, then I hope I can be someone that you can trust someday, hopefully soon." Amara calmly intoned. Looking directly into Rome's eyes, she then softly smiled with her eye
