Chapter 1

Narrator-Alpha Asher backed away from the handmade crib, and stood at a distance with his arms crossed, as he admired his handiwork. The crib was painted white, the wood itself included carved images of wolves, stars, and the different phases of the moon. Asher smiled proudly, as he looked around the room decorated with shades of blue and yellow. The furnished space had everything necessary for a nursery, plush toys sat atop every furniture, and a mobile spun above the crib, with tiny wolves, moons, and pine trees. There was a nursing chair sitting in the corner next to the crib. There was also a small shelf, packed with books and bedtime stories.Aside from the child-friendly decorations, there were also photographs of the Alpha and Luna. The Luna's pregnancy shots were also displayed, as well as that of the Luna and Alpha in wolf form, near the lake that bordered the pack on the north end. The room was kept warm, the lights soft. Everything a baby needs to feel comfortable. Asher pl

Chapter 2

Narrator-*6 Months Later*Miranda exited the yellow cab, as the driver, an elderly gentleman wearing a gray patterned flat cap, opened the trunk to retrieve the two small luggage that Miranda carried on her trip.Lacing the duffel back across her back, Miranda took the crumpled forty dollars cash she had stuffed in her back pocket, and handing it to the driver with a small, "Thanks."The driver nodded in her direction with a smile, then he hopped back into the car, and drove away. Miranda sighed, looking at the receding cab, before turning her eyes back to the small white cottage-like home that belonged to her aunt. The front was painted white, with two large windows, adorned by red and yellow flowers that were planted in the bed below the windowsill. Grabbing her luggage, Miranda began heading towards the front door. The front yard had green grass, along with various plants placed around the yard, surrounded by large beige rocks. There was a coconut tree growing near the far-right co

Chapter 3

Narrator-Miranda opened the two-door 1978 Mint Green Beetle, the driver's door squeaking at it's hinges, as if the underlying rust surrounding it's frame wasn't enough to display it's vintage years. At the sound, Miranda winced internally. She sent a quick look towards her aunt, who seemed more excited than Miranda, then towards the Mechanic, who's furrowed brow told Miranda that parting with this car wasn't easy. Miranda carefully lowered herself into the beige-colored fabric seat, and instantly sighed in comfort. She turned her legs into the vehicle, then she closed the door.Noticing that the young girl was settled in the car, Bill the mechanic walked around to the passenger's side where he opened the door with the aim of entering the car as well."Not so fast Bill," Aunt May spoke up, "take the backseat," she continued, "if you're taking this car for a test drive, I want to be there too."Bill opened his mouth to protest, but then paused. Miranda tried to hide her smile behind her

Chapter 4

Miranda- I approached the car with a smile and instantly recognized the giddy grin on Jamie's lips. "Nanda, can I call you Nanda?" Was how Jamie greeted me as soon as I entered her white Jeep Wrangler. "Uh sure." I giggled slightly. "Cool," she pepped, "Nanda you look great! I think you'll fit right into the scene. No one will notice that you're new." "Fresh meat, you mean?" I echoed her words from earlier. "Well, now that you mention it, it may not be hard to see that you are a bit... different." Jamie stated hesitantly, her vision looking my way for a brief second, before focusing back on the road ahead. "Different how? I mean everyone will mostly be young, the only difference is that they stay up until the sunrise, when usually I'd be asleep." I imagined and Jamie released a short laugh. "Well, that may not be the only thing that sets you apart from the rest." She replied after her laughter died down. "Do I want to know...?" I trailed off, my fingers finding interest in eac

Chapter 5

Asher- Joshua drove us to Georgie's and when we arrived, the place was already swarming with vampires and their feedbags. Most of the vampires who could afford a human slave had a warm body clinging onto their arms. We exited the car, and as soon as we began approaching the doors, the smell hit me, and the nausea shot a ball of bile up my throat. The stuffy odor of death, cold, mud and rotting leaves entered my nostrils, and made my stomach unsteady with queasiness. We walked up to the bouncers at the front, and as soon as they saw me, they stepped aside. Their sunken orbits looked my way with disgust, but I knew that they weren't brave enough to even hiss in my direction. So I smirked and walked passed them. We entered the building, and everyone took notice, like I expected them to. They parted and cleared the way to a booth area, where I noticed some of the other wolves hung about. We walked through the personal, custom-made path, and no one moved until me, Joshua and Deidran were

Chapter 6

Miranda- Eyes. Gold-tinged pupils staring me down. I was helpless. He was growling. I was running. He was chasing after me. I ran blindly through the large pine trunks in the foggy forest. I could hear the thundering of wolf paws on the ground behind me. Mine...! I heard his voice claim. I felt like I was screaming, and yet not even a meek squeak sounded from my burning vocal cords. Mine! I heard him again. I looked behind me, and the wolf was gone. I turned back around and there he was. His golden vision staring me down. I crashed into his chest. His hands fell on my shoulders. His palms burned my skin, but it felt good. His sun-like orbs penetrated my dull brown ones, and he smiled. His canine teeth were sharp, but they were not straight like Jamie's or Georgie's. No, they were slightly dented with one longer fang, accompanied by a smaller one. He was a different creature. He pressed my form against his, and he lowered his face until it was directly above mine. His eyes. I

Chapter 7

Narrator-The phone rang endlessly against Miranda's temple. She nibbled on her already shortened fingernails, while the vibrating sound of her unanswered call continued to thrum through the tissue of her eardrum.Miranda swallowed a gulp while her index finger escaped her lips only to be replaced by the leftmost corner of her ring finger. The taste of faded sweat salt and the slight sour tang of the skin cells filled her tongue, while her anxiety grew with every unanswered ring. The nibbling of her cuticles did not seize until a loud beep indicating the voicemail pierced Miranda's skull. Miranda quickly ended the call then plopped the device on her mattress. Then turning on her back, Miranda laid down. While staring at the grey tin ceiling of her shed-home, Miranda's mind began slipping along the images stored in her memory box, where sequences of the previous night performed on replay and with each repeat, Miranda seem to gain another piece of the puzzle of the night before. Chapter 8

Narrator- While the apprised aunt and her oblivious niece shared lunch, across town in Georgie's lounge, the bar owner received an unexpected guest. The assassin snuck her way into the building and prepared to catch George off guard. But before she could make her final move, her plan was exposed. "I know it's you, Elaine." George spoke, while he saw to organizing the bar. Elaine, a tall, pale-skinned woman with long raven black hair and aqua blue globes suddenly dropped behind George. She wore all leather clothing, her lips painted blood red. "Georgie." she greeted with a traitorous smile. "And to what do I owe this pleasure?" George kept his voice neutral but continued on with his task. "Now, now is that any way to treat the daughter of the Mayor? Not to mention an old friend?" Elaine questioned with a cock of her head. George sighed and stood straight. He turned and faced Elaine who smiled her pearly white teeth along with her fangs. "That's better." She mused. "Why are you

Chapter 9

Narrator- Alpha Asher casually gathered Miranda's limp form in his arms, along with her fallen keys and purse. Her head naturally leaned against his chest, and the moment her hair grazed against Asher's skin, he gladly breathed in a whiff of her natural scent. She smelled like sweet ripe oranges in the summer. Asher smiled and crossed the street, towards his SUV. He walked around the passenger side only to stop in his tracks when he noticed Joshua standing against the door with his arms crossed and a knowing smirk on his lips. "What are you smiling about?" Asher demanded before approaching Joshua, silently telling him to move away. "Dude, you're way too predictable." Joshua scolded playfully while shaking his head. "Am I now?" Asher asked in return, while Joshua opened the door and the Alpha carefully placed Miranda on the passenger seat, before buckling in her seatbelt. "Well I'm here, aren't I?" Joshua opened his arms and shrugged. Asher returned Joshua's comment with a dead pa

Chapter 10

Narrator- Miranda remained as still as a blade of grass in the absence of wind. She kept her forehead pressed against the glass window, and her eyesight glued to the rushing trees that bordered her side of the road. Her lungs performed soft, almost inaudible breaths, while she avoided even the subtlest of movements, including blinking. The more time Miranda spent becoming less human and more of a statue, the more time was allotted for her brain to connect the dots from the first night she spent at Georgie's. It seemed that her jogged memory was becoming more lucid, rather than a figment of a dreamy imagination. Across from the mute human, Asher's growing restlessness was evident. The vein on his forehead was throbbing, and his left lower eyelid began its comical twitching act. Asher's knuckles were ready to pop out of their joints from holding the steering wheel too tightly. The Alpha male tried to take in a few deep breaths, but the suffocating scent of sweet, ripe oranges, filled
