Chapter 1

Hovering up above in the laboratory as a ghostly specter, I watched as my corpse lay naked in front of Nathan Lowe. My face was disfigured beyond recognition, and both my arms were crushed to a pulp. Nathan heaved a sigh before looking over at Gina Mason, who stood beside him with an innocent expression. "Why did you go so far?" Hearing that, Gina exhaled in relief. She deduced that Nathan hadn't recognized the body to be mine. "You'll help me, right, Nate?" Gina asked, her voice inspiring pity and compassion in all who heard her. Nathan's gaze steeled. He inhaled deeply, looking like he'd made a tough decision, before replying, "I'll protect you, Gina. I always will!" As soon as he finished speaking, he put on a pair of gloves and cleaned up the wounds on my body. Then, he stripped my hair and skin off. Finally, he took a scalpel and sliced my abdomen open to start taking out my organs. However, immediately after Nathan made the incision, his hand trembled. He gulped ner

Chapter 2

Once Gina knew what Nathan had done, her eyes flickered strangely. However, she swiftly put on a show of sadness, saying, "Nate, I know you adore children, but…" She clutched her abdomen, looking as though she had suddenly recalled a sorrowful memory. "I don't care if Charlotte bears your child. As long as you're the father, I'll love the child too!" Gina declared as she stared lovingly at Nathan with teary eyes. Nathan glanced at Gina before lowering his gaze to the body in front of him. "I won't let her bear my child. She's not worthy to be the mother of my child." "But you guys…" "I switched her vitamins out for birth control, so there's no way she can get pregnant with my child." Hearing this, I felt as though I'd been struck by lightning. Nathan and I had been married for five years without me ever getting pregnant. We both went to the hospital for health examinations and confirmed that everything was fine, but somehow, I just couldn't conceive. Now I knew it was b

I glared at the couple kissing passionately beside the remnants of my dead body. I wanted to float away, but I couldn't. Even after dying, I'd turned into a lingering soul that couldn't go anywhere. I was forced to hang around Nathan. I felt so pathetic. When I was still alive, Nathan treated me as if I didn't exist. Now that I was dead, I was forced to witness him and Gina in each other's arms. They were glued to each other when Nathan's phone rang, interrupting them. With a dark expression, Nathan picked his phone up and checked the screen. It was a call from his mother, Marie Walker. Nathan rejected the call without hesitation before getting all hot and heavy with Gina again. All of a sudden, I recalled that I'd promised to take Marie to the hospital for a health check today. It was already nighttime, and I was a no-show. She couldn't get in touch with me either. She must've been worried sick right now. By the time Nathan left the laboratory, it was already past 10

Chapter 4

After a night of poor sleep, Nathan went to work, still sporting heavy undereye circles. The female intern at the front desk gave him a gift bag. Nathan eyed the gift covered in baby blue wrapping paper with a puzzled expression. "It's not for you," the intern explained. "It's for your wife. I ran into her at the mall the other day. She wanted to get this milk bottle, but the store was out of stock. Well, I saw some in stock yesterday, so I got it. It's my gift to your future baby!" What she said jogged my memory. Last week, I went to the mall to buy some supplies for the baby and me. That was when I bumped into her. She was there picking out a gift for her newborn nephew. When she saw me browsing the maternity supplies, she gave me the list of things her sister-in-law had used. Since I didn't count on Nathan to help me make these purchases, I'd decided to shop for the supplies while I could still move with ease and carry things around. Nathan took the gift bag and continue

Chapter 5

Nathan went to the police station to report that I was missing. The police asked him how long I'd been gone. He recalled my work outfit hanging at the dressing table and replied, "Perhaps since Sunday." "Perhaps? Sunday? It's already Wednesday. Why are you only reporting it now after so many days?" The policeman's questions hit Nathan like bullets, one after the other. "What was she wearing when she was last seen? Where was she heading?" No matter what the police asked, all Nathan could do was shake his head to imply his inability to answer. After all, he truly didn't know the answers to those questions. He didn't bother looking for me ever since I walked out of the house. When our mothers found out I was missing, they rushed to the police station as well. Compared to Nathan, they were able to share more details about me. "I last saw Charlotte on Saturday. I'd fallen while getting out of bed, and Charlotte hurried over to take me to the hospital," Marie said. Nathan has

Chapter 6

Nathan's expression was dark and stormy. Gina grabbed his arm in fear and asked, "What should we do now, Nate? Will the police trace it back to us? I don't want to go to prison!" She and Nathan were in this together now. Settling the churning emotions inside of him, Nathan said gravely, "I'll think of something. If the police latch onto us, I'll tell them I did it, and that it has nothing to do with you." Upon hearing that, Gina was bursting with joy. She tiptoed and planted a kiss on his chin. "You're so good to me, Nate!" Seeing how happy she was, I felt nothing but mockery. Nathan, were you that madly in love with Gina that you'd even take the fall for the crime she committed? Would you still say that if you knew that I was the person she killed? ... Nathan had a feeling the police would soon come knocking on his door, so he needed to locate me before they did. On this day, he ran into his assistant, Brad Sawyer, at the laboratory. Brad seemed to recall somet

Being a spirit, I was easily able to see how the police interrogated both Nathan and Gina. They started by targeting Gina, who was more vulnerable to psychological tricks. They told her Nathan had confessed everything. Gina didn't believe them at first, but the police simply pushed a bit harder, and her defenses came crumbling down. Crying, she declared, "Ask Nathan about it! He knows where the body is! It wasn't me. It was Nathan who did it! He's the killer. He did everything. I don't know anything. Let me go!" The police immediately went over to Nathan's interrogation room and informed him, "Gina told us everything. She said you're the mastermind. If you give a confession, you may receive a more lenient sentence, but if you don't, it will only get worse for you. So, tell us what you did." Although Nathan had promised to take the fall on Gina's behalf, he was still shocked to hear that she'd pinned all the blame on him. He took a deep breath and grimly began to make his conf

The DNA test results for the body parts came back. It was now confirmed that I was the victim Nathan had turned into those specimens. When Nathan heard that, he froze for a moment before fervently shaking his head. "No. That's impossible. How could she have been Charlotte? No. There's no way… Definitely not…" The police placed the report in front of Nathan and said, "It's true. The body you cut into pieces belonged to your wife, Charlotte Forrest!" Being an academician in the medical industry, he knew full well how irrefutable the report was. The police had no reason to trick him. He had indeed cut up his own wife and turned her into a bunch of specimens! Worse still, he destroyed his own child too! The revelation hit him like a ton of bricks. Unable to accept this, he screamed at the top of his lungs. "No! You are all lying to me! I don't believe this! I refuse to believe this! You're just tricking me!" Nathan looked like he'd gone mad. He kept tugging at his handcuffs i

Chapter 9

When I got home, I printed the divorce agreement and signed my name to it before leaving with a determined heart. To my shock, Gina was there when I exited the house. She was clutching the pregnancy test I'd dropped, and with a manic expression, she drove her car straight into me. Gina crushed both my arms. My face was entirely disfigured too. Then, she took my body to Nathan. … Having heard what Gina said, Nathan wanted to laugh at the irony of it all. "I've given you so much, but you're still not satisfied!" he said. "You still felt the need to kill Charlotte!" "Of course!" Gina retorted. "How was I supposed to vent my resentment if I didn't kill her?" Only now did Nathan realize what kind of a person Gina actually was. He was overwhelmed with anger, resentment, and anguish. He wanted to choke Gina to death to avenge me, but sadly for him, he couldn't do it. All he could do was cry in remorse for the things he'd done. "I'm sorry, Charlotte. I was wrong. Why di
