Chapter 5

Nathan went to the police station to report that I was missing. The police asked him how long I'd been gone.

He recalled my work outfit hanging at the dressing table and replied, "Perhaps since Sunday."

"Perhaps? Sunday? It's already Wednesday. Why are you only reporting it now after so many days?"

The policeman's questions hit Nathan like bullets, one after the other.

"What was she wearing when she was last seen? Where was she heading?"

No matter what the police asked, all Nathan could do was shake his head to imply his inability to answer. After all, he truly didn't know the answers to those questions. He didn't bother looking for me ever since I walked out of the house.

When our mothers found out I was missing, they rushed to the police station as well. Compared to Nathan, they were able to share more details about me.

"I last saw Charlotte on Saturday. I'd fallen while getting out of bed, and Charlotte hurried over to take me to the hospital," Marie said.
