Chapter 2

Once Gina knew what Nathan had done, her eyes flickered strangely. However, she swiftly put on a show of sadness, saying, "Nate, I know you adore children, but…"

She clutched her abdomen, looking as though she had suddenly recalled a sorrowful memory.

"I don't care if Charlotte bears your child. As long as you're the father, I'll love the child too!" Gina declared as she stared lovingly at Nathan with teary eyes.

Nathan glanced at Gina before lowering his gaze to the body in front of him. "I won't let her bear my child. She's not worthy to be the mother of my child."

"But you guys…"

"I switched her vitamins out for birth control, so there's no way she can get pregnant with my child."

Hearing this, I felt as though I'd been struck by lightning.

Nathan and I had been married for five years without me ever getting pregnant. We both went to the hospital for health examinations and confirmed that everything was fine, but somehow, I just couldn't conceive.

Now I knew it was because of Nathan. He'd replaced my vitamins with birth control pills! I'd switched to a different brand of vitamins after hearing bad things about the one I was eating, but he didn't know that. That was why I managed to get pregnant.

Nathan's answer seemed to have satisfied Gina. She lifted her chin and eyed my corpse victoriously.

I watched as Nathan cut my body up and soaked the various parts in formaldehyde.

Once he was finally done, he slumped onto the couch in exhaustion. Gina handed him a warm towel before climbing onto his lap playfully and looking at him.

"Why do you have such dark undereye circles, Nate? Is Charlotte still upset? Why don't I call her up and explain things to her?"

Nathan frowned subconsciously at the mention of my name.

Naturally, Gina picked up on his disdain for me and said consolingly, "Charlotte has a bad temper, Nate. You should put in the effort to placate her."

Nathan looked displeased. "She's possessive and loves getting jealous over nothing. I don't intend to placate her. Let's see how long she plans on giving me the cold shoulder!"

Before the car accident, Nathan and I got into a fight over Gina. He thought I was being utterly unreasonable, so I walked out of the house.

Every time we argued, I would give him the cold shoulder for several days. He assumed I was doing the same thing this time.

Alas, he didn't know that I was dead. Just moments ago, to help Gina avoid paying for her crime, he sliced me up, emptied my organs, and turned them into specimens!

To remove all evidence of the crime from the laboratory, Nathan used a special chemical reagent to clean the entire place. Soon, the laboratory looked as good as new. It was as if nothing had ever happened.

The only problem that remained was the mangled bits of flesh that were once my arms. Those were harder to deal with.

"Leave it to me," Gina bravely volunteered. "I'll be sure to get rid of it properly."

Nathan hummed in acknowledgment.

Now that everything was done, Gina hugged Nathan by the waist and rested against him affectionately.

"Thank you so much, Nate. If it hadn't been for you, I wouldn't know what to do at all!"

Nathan held her tightly and kissed the top of her head. "Don't worry. Nothing will happen, not with me around."

In all five years of marriage, I'd never seen such a gentle, adoring expression on Nathan's face before. I once thought he was merely cold and aloof by nature. I assumed that with enough time and effort, I could've warmed his heart.

Thinking about it now, I realized how much of a fool I was. He wasn't cold and aloof at all. He just never loved me.

Feeling a rise of passion, Gina wrapped her arms around Nathan's neck and eyed him flirtatiously. Startled, he instinctively glanced at the specimens he'd made of my body. It looked like he wanted to reject her advances.

However, the combination of her continuous seduction and his own surge of desire made him give in. He bent down and kissed her on the lips.

Whenever Nathan and I did anything intimate, he would avoid kissing me. I thought he didn't like to be kissed, but now, I could see him kissing Gina ravenously.

I came to an understanding once more. It wasn't kisses that he had an aversion to—it was kissing me.
