The worst thing is when you wake up from an attack, and you are suspected of killing the one he loves. The more you love him, the more he will hate you.***My eyes hurt as I fight to open them to the blinding lights.Flinching at the pain streaming through me, I touch the bump on my head. That must have happened as I was attacked.I blink confused as the dazzling white slowly fades, and my childhood friend and crush Scott appears standing in front of my bed.And he doesn’t look happy at all.Oh, no!I sit up panicky, scooting back as if it would save me from his anger rolling from him in waves.“S-scott…” I stutter. “Wa- Wa…”I don’t even get to finish the sentence as he interrupts me, the corner of his lips twitching. “It’s Alpha Scott for you, April!”In a ceremony not long ago, he inherited the title of Alpha and found his mate, but... i

April He tilts his head at me, inspecting my face as he loses his trust more and more in what I’m saying.“What does that mean?” My mother asks, looking at me with a shocked expression, making my heart beat into my throat.“I- I don’t understand,” I say lowly, my eyes jumping back and forth between him and the screen. “What is this?”He scoffs. “Of course you don’t. It’s the message you sent to Hailey where you ask her to meet you at the pack’s border.”I can’t believe this!A thousand thoughts run in my mind, my brain trying to make sense of this absurd situation. This has to be a nightmare!“No, no!” I shake my head, directing my eyes back up to him.He clenches his jaw, making me fear he will crush the phone in his hand, my mother increasing the grip on my arm. “What did you do, April?” she whispers, making me go into absolute panic.“No! I never sent her a message. Goddess, I didn’t even have her numbers. How did this get into my phone?” I screech, seeing Alpha Kelvin and my mot

AprilSix hours agoI look up to the stage with sparkling eyes as the elder of our pack greets the pack members who came to the succession ceremony of our new Alpha. Scott is standing next to our current Alpha Kelvin who looks the happiest as his eyes move over the expectant crowd.“Welcome, dearest members of our pack,” he announces with a loud voice while Alpha Kelvin finds us in the crowd and winks at us. “We are here to celebrate the shift and coronation of our new Alpha.”My breath hitches in my throat as the son of our current Alpha Kelvin steps up to stand next to the wise man, who now looks like a feeble small man next to the muscular and tall new leaders of our pack.Scott Walker was everything a girl could dream of. He was intelligent, funny, ambitious, had a killer smile and his toned body looked fabulous when glistering under the hot sun during training sessions. We had been childhood friends and I think that nobody could be so blind not to see how massive my crush was for

Scott“This can’t be real,” I say to myself as I stare into the void, my hands crossed against my lips. “I must be dreaming.”Taking a sip from my glass filled with bourbon, I let the burning sensation stream from my throat into my body without getting myself to wake up.I close my eyes, taking a deep breath. “This is it. It is just a stupid nightmare, and I’ll wake up any moment.”Maybe there is another explanation to it, maybe it is all just a bad joke.A very bad one.Grabbing the glass with the amber liquid standing on my desk, I catapult it against the wall, making it shatter into thousands of pieces.I roar as my heart squeezes painfully, the pain over Hailey’s disappearance too heavy to bear.It had been already hours ago when my wolf last felt the mate bond, but the connection had been interrupted ever since, making me guess that Hailey might have died.“Damn, April. What did you do?” I groan, burying my head into my hands.Sighing deeply, I pass my hand over my face before st

April “Get up!” My breath gets knocked out of my lungs as Scott kicks me into my stomach, and he repeats his order louder, growling it right into my face as he pulls my hair to make me look at him. “Get up!” With an ungentle push, he makes me hit the dirty floor again, making me cough as I’m ringing for air as the pain governing my body is making it hard to breathe. Groaning I push myself off the floor, only to be grabbed by Scott and dragged to my feet as he loses his patience. “You are too slow,” he growls into my ear before pushing me towards the exit. I take slow and steady breaths to be able to cope with the pain as I let my voice die in my throat, not wanting to anger him further. He shouts at me again, and I finally move, walking to the exit of the dungeons as fast as I can without passing out because of the pain. Holding my side, I feel blood seep through my fingers as my wolf-less body struggles to regenerate. “Move!” he snarls as we step into the sunlight, leaving th

AprilWe have been driving for hours as heavy raindrops start hitting our windshield. The car slows down as my mother applies the brakes, wanting to adjust our speed to the weather raging around us. I can feel her helplessness growing as seeing the road clearly is nearly impossible by now. “Where are we going to stay?” I ask quietly, making her hum. She activates the higher level of the windshield wiper, squinting her eyes onto the streets. “I don’t know, honey. I thought about finding a cute little pension to settle in for a few days. If we are lucky enough, we can start asking a few Alphas ruling over the packs in the closer vicinity to ask if they would take us in. Otherwise, you don’t have to worry, either. I have enough saved up to keep it going for a few weeks until we find a job and maybe a cozy apartment in town.” My heart squeezes in my chest as she turns towards me with a smile. “Mom!” I scream as suddenly a dark shadow moves, getting right into our way. She hits the br

April I scream as the pain of the bones breaking and reassembling themselves feels like it is tearing me apart. Digging my fingers which are shifting into claws into the muddy ground, I try to breathe through the agony while my wounds are being healed after getting ripped open while my skin changes, causing me to black out repeatedly. Finally, the pressure on my chest lifts, and I am able to breathe again. I shake myself, noticing that I am now standing on my four paws. My white fur moves in the wind as my wolf stands up fully. “Don’t worry, April,” her voice booms through my mind, making me wince as I’m still coping to adjust to the strange sensation of my wolf taking over. “I got them!” Even before I can make sense of what she said, she charges forward. I scream, the sound only resounding in her head as she rams the rogue who is about to bite into my mother’s throat as she is lying on the ground. The rogue gets catapulted against a tree with a yelp, getting the attention of th

Scott“I can’t believe you did this to April and her mother,” my father mumbles as I pace back and forth in front of him. “And I can’t believe you convinced me not to execute a death sentence for her. She killed my Luna, I should have executed them both,” I shout, growling as I try to keep my wolf from pushing forward. “All it took you was her mother to show up at your door. I wonder what her striking arguments were.” “Don’t vent your frustration on me, son,” my father growls, obviously offended. “There is nothing going on between Hazel and me, but April is like a daughter to me, and Hazel was my best friend’s mate. I know that you are grieving, but we still don’t know what happened and I’m still convinced that April has nothing to do with it.” I scoff, letting myself slump into my office chair. “How can you be so sure of this? We have Ana and Joey who witnessed them walk together to the spot where we found Hailey’s clothes and blood spilt on the ground. My wolf can’t feel Hailey an

April “Shift!” Alpha Noah’s Alpha command ripples through me, making my muscles contract and my nerves sizzle. He must be a strong alpha wolf as he gets his Alpha command imposed on me so easily even if I’m not part of his pack. My wolf whimpers, lowering her head onto her front paws as a searing pain shoots through me. A silent scream explodes from my chest as my body gets forced to shift back to my human form. My bones crack, aligning anew and I concentrate on breathing calmly as the pain takes over all my senses. I lie on the floor heaving, my sight refocusing slowly as I catch my breath. My chest heaves as Alpha Noah steps closer crouching down to touch my mother’s cheek. She is still unconscious, and I watch him check for her vitals calmly. “Please,” I breathe out desperately. “Please, save her.” His dark eyes settle back on me, and I look up at him pleadingly as he seems to assess the situation. “What happened?” “Rogues…” I just say, and his severe gaze changes, his eyes

Scott My leg jumps nervously as I’m sitting in one of the cold chairs made of plastic which are affixed to the wall. The sterile hallway of the hospital is full of scurrying nurses, stalking doctors, people visiting with sorrowful expressions hidden behind forced smiles, and patients trying to get a few steps taken carefully as they spend too much time in bed. And still, it seems so lonely. Leaning my head back against the wall, I take a deep breath and close my eyes. My father is the strongest wolf I know, and due to that perception, I always imagined him to be indestructible. Even after Jax’s death, which he encountered while saving my father’s life, my heart still repudiated the thought that my father could have left us as well. It seemed so far-fetched to me as he was invincible for me. I suppose that I never lost the childish admiration for him that a son has for his father naturally when he is an important and strong figure in your life. “Alpha,” a calm voice disrupts my
