Chapter 21

Layla's POVI got a weird message from an unknown number telling me to come alone if I want to save my husband. The location was sent to me immediately. My heart raced. Could Alex be in trouble? I asked.I wanted to call Larry, but I decided against it, since I was warned to come alone. Things like this don't end well. I thought.Who could be behind this? Amelia came to mind, but I shrugged it off. She can't hurt Alex. She loves him. I put on my clothes quickly and dashed out of the house. Driving at full speed, I got to the location within a few minutes. The place was deserted and grasses had overgrown the area. There was no sign of buildings talking more humans.I got out of the car and called the anonymous number, but I was forwarded to voicemail.I tried looking around then I felt a hard object hit my head."Argh!" I screamed and fell to the ground. Two pairs of hands lifted me off the ground and put me in a van. I became dizzy and I fell unconscious.Later, I felt water wash down

Chapter 22

Alexander's POV"Layla is leaving." My grandmother declared. "Here's the divorce papers." She threw a brown envelope on the table. "Sign it and get lost!" She yelled at Layla."Grandmother, what are you doing?" I walked closer to her. "Layla is not leaving. She is my wife!" I exclaimed."No, Alex dear." She fixed my collar. "Layla was never good for you. Here's the lady I brought for you." She said, handing Zara over to me. "I heard she is carrying your child. Your heir. Let this slut go and be happy with your first love." She stared, smiling. My inside burned with rage. "What! Have you gone crazy grandma?" I gazed at her. "Don't be deceived by this sly woman. You didn't even check to confirm if the child is mine.""I don't care. As long as this bitch gets to leave." She said, pointing at Layla. "You know I never consented to this nonsensical marriage in the first place."I held back the tears that threatened to fall. "I will leave." Layla said."Good!" My grandmother exclaimed happ

Chapter 23

Layla's POVI walked down the lonely road. It was dark and there was no sign of humans. Rain poured down heavily, drenching me to the bones. I couldn't care less about the cold.I had a flashback to when my mother and I were brutally sent out of my father's house and the tears I had been struggling to hold back poured down heavily.Just when I thought I would be happy with the man I love. Why does life keep treating me this way? I thought.I can't face my mother right now, I feel so ashamed.I continued walking as I had nowhere to go. I decided against spending the money in my account because they are Alex's and I don't want to have anything to do with him anymore.I must have been deceiving myself, thinking I can now enjoy life. I laughed at myself. Maybe happiness wasn't made for me."Fool!" I said to myself, hitting my head continuously with my fist. After long hours of walking, my strength was already gone and I could barely walk. My head became heavy and I couldn't see properly.

Chapter 24

Alexander's POVDays have passed and I still haven't seen Layla. Where could she have gone to? I asked myself.I kept a close tab on her account, but she hasn't spent anything from the money. I was terribly worried. How has she been living? I wondered. She couldn't have left the country. If she had, my men would have informed me.I spend most of my time at the hospital, expecting her to show up and see her mother. I know how much she cherished her mother, but she hasn't shown up.Could she have committed suicide? I thought. I shook my head. The Layla I know can't kill herself over a small matter.Zara continued living in the villa. She spends her money on unnecessary things that made me question the kind of life she had been living.Amelia also comes to visit sometimes, claiming that she is taking care of her pregnant friend.I still find it hard to believe that I am responsible for Zara's pregnancy, but I can't justify myself. I allowed myself to be fooled by Amelia, so I have to

Chapter 25

Layla's POVI still find it hard to believe that I am not Torres. After my encounter with the weird man at the slum. I demanded we do a DNA test and the result was a match. He is truly my biological father.I had transferred all the money in my account to him, so he wouldn't leak the video of him and my mom having sex to the media. I told him to delete it, but he didn't.Now he is asking for more money. I held my head and ruffled my hair on the chair that I sat on. I stared at my mom on the bed. How could she have committed such a humiliating crime?I cried as I held her hands. I had always looked up to her, wanting to be the best actress like her, but not anymore.Who could have thought that she slept with an actor, got pregnant for him and took the baby to another man's house.Father took care of me as his own. Had he known I wasn't his daughter, would he still have loved me? I thought.I don't blame my grandmother for sending us out of her son's house then.I really need to go and

Chapter 26

Alexander's POV"Boss," Charlie, one of my bodyguard bowed apologetically as I entered into Layla mother's ward.I glared at him. "You made me lose her again!" I slammed my fist on the wall. "How could you have missed her! Just a simple task, you can't get done!" I grapped him by the collar. "Find out her location if you don't want to lose your life!" I thundered angrily, pushing him away."Boss!" Larry screamed, running towards me. "She is at the villa." He said, panting heavily."What?" I looked at him."Yes, boss." He assured.I dashed out of the hospital in haste. I snatched the car keys from Larry and drove to the villa in full speed.I can't afford to lose her again.I entered into the villa, my heart pounding, but there was no sign of Layla.I almost broke down in tears when one of the workers walked up to me."The Boss lady is waiting for you in the Master's bedroom." She said curtly, bowing as she left.I bolted to my room immediately. I opened the door and there she was. Sit

Chapter 27

Layla's POVI couldn't bring myself to follow Alex to the hospital.I killed Zara, she died because of me. I shouldn't have been so selfish. Guilt tugged at my heart as I sat down on the sofa dejected. Her death would hunt me till I die. I thought.I cleaned my tears as my phone buzzed with a message."Murderer! You can't escape it. You will pay dearly!" This was the content of the message.Fear gripped me as my phone fell from my hands. I thought they said she committed suicide. My eyes widened as the realization hit me."Was she murdered!" I exclaimed. Who could have been so heartless?Could it be Amelia? I thought. My phone buzzed with another message again, startling me.I picked it up and the message was from my real dad."I see you are now back with your husband. I guess it's not only me who hates the life of hardship. Don't forget your promise. Daddy's waiting." He ended it with a smiling emoji. This man must be crazy. I hissed.I sat there, looking into space.I wondered what

Chapter 28

Alexander's POVI was dumbfounded after hearing Layla talk. I went silent for a while, trying to process her statement."You've been what?" I exclaimed. She sobbed as he explained. "I went to Amelia's place to confront her about her involvement in Zara's death, and the cops came in and took me, accusing me of murder." I ended the call. "How dare she! I gritted my teeth, trying to curb my rage. "Amelia had gone too far!" How is she always steps ahead of me? I thought. She couldn't have done this all by herself.I went to the station to check on my wife. The cops stood up and greeted me, wondering why I was at the station.Their boss walked up to me. "What brings you by sir?" He asked, his head bowed to the floor. "Do you have a case to report? We will be excited to help you out, sir." He said sharply."My wife is here?" I said and the whole place went silent as they looked at me, surprise and shock written on their faces.Their boos smiled. "What can she be doing here?" He looked up

Chapter 29

Layla's POVI woke up to a message from my dad. This man would not cease to provoke me.What does he want from me this time? I thought, checking his message. He sent me a location to meet up with him, threatening to expose the truth if I refuse to show up.“Should I just come clean and tell Alex about it.” I said aloud.“Hmm, what's that,” Alex said, walking into the room. How come I didn't notice him coming in? “You wanted to tell me something?” He asked, placing a kiss on my neck as I sat on the bed.“Yeah,” I smiled, hesitating. “I want to go out with a friend.” I lied, praying inwardly that he doesn't suspect.“A friend?” He chuckled. “You’ve never told me about them.”“Yes, I just started making friends.” I said.He looked at me. I'm sure he doesn't believe what I said. “It's okay, you can go see your friends. But do not trust anyone, they might be close to you because you're my wife. Wanting to use you for their personal gains.” He kissed me passionately and left the room.I hea

Chapter 30

Alexander's POVWhat is taking her so long? I thought. I had already planned for us to go on a date so she could ease her stress.I know she is going through something, but I haven't figured out what it is yet. After the death of Zara and Amelia, my suspicions about Layla increased.I know someone is protecting her and I will find out who the person is soon.I sat on the chair, as I sipped my wine gently. The door flung open and Layla walked in, looking like a ghost.I stood up to meet her. She almost collapsed, but I held her quickly.I took her to the room and laid her on the bed.I had better leave her alone now and ask the questions tomorrow. As I turned to leave, she held me back as she wailed.“My mother is dead!” She lamented. That came as a surprise. I made sure all of her bills are sorted and she gets the best treatment. The last time I went there, the doctor assured me that she was fine and already responding to treatment.I need to go check on things myself, but I can't lea
