Chapter Ninety-one

Catherine's POV: "Your hair looks wonderful," Gina said right after she patted it to remain in place. I was seated in front of the mirror, dressed in the most beautiful gown I'd ever worn. It was a silk forest green dress, stopping very far away from my knees and having coiffures that ruffled the dress. The bodice was carved in a cup shape, showing off my cleavages in the most decent way while leaving something for the mind to fish for. Michael had gotten this dress for me last night with a sweet not attached to it. I had kept it close to my bedside table, reading it from time to time and keeping it so I could do it over and over again. My makeup was flawless and perfectly minimalist. I literally wanted to eat myself up because I could barely recognise the woman seated in front of this mirror. My neck was adorned with a gold necklace having an emerald pendant hanging off it and I had emerald teardrop earrings dangling off my ears. Gina had surprised me this morn

Chapter Ninety-two

Alpha Michael's POV: I had carefully planned out today even if it was an impromptu party. Thankfully, my friends had responded positively to the invitation, mostly because we were going to be having an outdoor party with a grill in place. That had been some sort of bait because most of my friends only loved to attend outdoor parties. The married ones mostly. As for the single ones, all they attended were either balls or outdoor parties like these, mostly because there were beautiful women around. Dinner parties weren't their forte. "Hey, bud," Trey, who was in charge of the drinks, came to stand beside me right after drinks had been placed into the coolers. "What's with you looking this elated today? I've not seen you this way for a long time. You barely ever reply to my texts or pick up my calls. So tell me, what exactly is it?" I flipped the large pound of meat over, chuckling to myself before I replied to him. "Well, I got good news." "How good is the news? En

Chapter Ninety-three

Catherine's POV: "Hello there, you must be Catherine." I turned to see a woman, dressed in a purple gown that flowed to her legs standing before me with a smile on her face. She had a shock of jet back hair that flowed to her waist. I barely even recognized her and that was when it dawned on me that I knew none of Michael's friends or the people he related with. I had no idea how that made me feel but I smiled at her. She was really polite and there was definitely no harm in speaking to her. "Hi, there. Of course, I am." "Can I?" She asked, gesturing to the empty seat before me. I nodded at her, releasing Julia who was struggling to get out of my lap so she could go play with the other kids. I allowed her before facing the woman. She took her seat and just placed her purse on the table. She had a permanent smile plastered on her face and I couldn't help but be mesmerized by it. "I didn't catch your name," I asked once she was settled in. "Rahlia," She replied w

Chapter Ninety-four

Catherine's POV: Even as the glasses clinked, I was far away from here, my thoughts bothering around how any of these had been possible in the first place? I blinked, looking down at my drink as questions flew over my head. When did that happen? Of course, I know he meant this as a surprise for me but when had it all happened? When were the papers found? When was it destroyed? I felt my knees buck underneath me but I remained standing, trying not to look like I was the most shocked of everyone. Now, I understood why he was being all sweet to me. I had no idea what to feel. Of course, I should be happy. Hell, he had promised to go to the ends of the earth to make sure he proved to me that he really cared. But I had no idea what to trust anymore. What if he was doing this so he could get custody of the kids? Because hell, it definitely felt like that. I was jolted out of my thoughts by someone yelling and I snapped, seeing that it was one of the children who had fa

Chapter Ninety-five

Alpha Michael's POV: I didn't know Catherine had left the party. I had been too engrossed in speaking with my friends and ignoring their teasing. I had wanted to spend time with Catherine for the whole of the part but she seemed quite off and I had no idea why. I wanted to think the announcement had been too shocking for her to take but i decided to leave her be, hoping she would come around later on. I knew she didn't feel comfortable with a lot of people. I hadn't tagged her to be such an introverted person but this one was an eye opener for me so I let her be. One or two times, my friends had asked me to check in on her as she was drinking so much alcohol but I had waved it off, telling my friends to mind their business as Catherine was only having the time of her life, or so it seemed. So when I didn't see her at her usual spot, I believed she had gone into the palace. Honestly, I was worried about her and how she felt really uncomfortable here. I should have just thr

Chapter Ninety-six

Alpha Michael's POV: "Where are the kids?" I asked Gina as soon as I stepped out of Catherine's room. She was fast asleep and I had escaped after she had pulled me back several times. "They're playing outside," Gina replied, stopping before me with raised brows. I cocked my head to the side, wondering if I'd heard what she said correctly. "Did you just say they're playing outside?" She nodded in confusion. "Yes, sir." "Did I not ask you to bring them in, Gina?!" I snapped, feeling myself lose control. She swallowed, nodding as I drew close to her. "I did. But they said they wanted to remain playing with their new friends outside. I didn't think you wanted them in for real." "Right now, go and bring them back in!" I yelled at her. She nodded, trembling before she turned on her feet and hurried down the hallway. I walked briskly towards the entrance leading out to the field out back to see that everyone was still partying in full swing. No one see

Chapter Ninety-seven

Alpha Michael's POV: "What's wrong, Michael?" Catherine asked as soon as she noticed the shock written on my face. I slid out of my seat, turning to her with a look of resolve before sighing. "Something has happened at the borders and I have been called to check on it." Worry creeped into her expression and she sat up immediately, walking towards me as I snatched my keys from the counter, thankful that I had come along with it. Originally, all I wanted to do was take a ride around the pack with Catherine and probably make love to her at the beach once again. But that wasn't going to be possible anymore as there were other things to be worried about. "Is this so-called thing bad?" "Posing a threat, yes." I replied before walking over to her. I placed my hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry about it. When I return, I'll give you the full details. I don't want you to get worried, okay?" "But how will that be possible when I am already worried?" "Sometimes,

Chapter Ninety-eight

Catherine's POV: Since Michael left, I had not quite gotten myself. I couldn't go up to his room even when he had asked me to wait there for him. I kept checking on the kids to see if they were sleeping safely, then I walked outside, over to the few guards who were left to man the Palace and when I asked them what was wrong, they refrained from telling me at all. I decided to take a seat on the cane chair directly at the porch of the Palace, swinging my foot from side to side as I waited for the gates to be pulled open, for Michael's car to drive in. I knew something was wrong. I could feel it in my bones that it wasn't just an attack. It was worse than that. How had today turned sour all of a sudden? I'd wanted to spend the night with Michael, talking about the whole party and how the divorce papers were found but it seemed like the universe had something else in stock for us. I leaned back into the seat and slowly, tiredness creeped in. Even though I'd slept

Chapter Ninety-nine

Catherine's POV: I was jolted out of my sleep when the sound of commotion floated into my ears. I pushed the covers aside and climbed out of my bed, wondering what was happening to make the Palace so noisy. Surely, we weren't under attack? I slipped into a robe and hurried out of the room, making my way to the kids' room to see that they were awake and having breakfast. Gina was seated by the window, staring outside in curiosity and once I saw that they were safe, I creeped back out of their room before making my way outside the Palace. The courtyard was crowded by people and Michael stood by the porch, speaking at the top of his voice as the crowd raged on and on. "It is my duty to keep you all safe! And we are working towards that!" "But two people have died in a space of last night and this morning, your majesty! How are we supposed to believe that?!" Micy paused for a moment before he continued to speak. "We have sealed the area and are in search of

Chapter One Hundred

Catherine's POV: My drive to him, though silent, was filled with so many voices in my head. I couldn't shake off the fact that John was the one carrying out the killings. How had things gone from peaceful to chaotic all of a sudden. I remember the first time I met John. He was such a nice man, attending to me and asking me questions. I remember breaking down in tears before him after lamenting my situation to him and he had listened to me without even judging me. I remembered how he had surprised me by offering to accommodate me in his condo. In order not to make me uncomfortable, he made sure I had the access to my own privacy. That way, we rarely bumped into each other until we started to become polite to each other. He had been there during my time of labor, acting as a good companion and promising me safety and when I delivered, he was the one who had suggested the names to give our kids. Hell, he had literally bought everything they were going to be using f
