Chapter Ninety-One

Yet another day passed with me stepping off the training grounds with my shoulders sagged under the weight of worry. Jasper had put forward the changes to the pack training and to make the process of training the females easier, he put me in charge of getting them started, but after three days of standing alone before a blue training mat, I was disheartened.  We had decided not to enforce it as a rule at first, hoping that more females would be interested in training, but clearly, that wasn’t a successful approach.  ‘Oliver and Yasmin are here.’ Jasper informed me and I sighed before changing my direction towards the pack house where I knew they’d be in the Alpha office.  I knocked to anno

Chapter Ninety-Two

“Knock, knock.” I pushed open the door to the Alpha office and peeked my head in.  “Hey, love. Are you headed to training?” Jasper smiled at me, but I could see the strain on his face as he tried to appear happy which made me frown.  Entering the office I shut the door securely behind me, “Are you okay?”  Jasper sighed, running his hand through his hair and flopped into the backrest of his executive chair, “I’ve been going through the evidence that Carter handed to me. I can’t believe that Nathan would do something like this.” Jasper’s jaw clenched angrily.  “What did you find?” I pursed my lips, picking up the file he

Chapter Ninety-Three

“That was excellent girls, let’s wrap it up for today. We’ll have a session to reflect on this month’s progress next Monday. I have a meeting with the Alpha and I’m already late.” I rushed to grab my bag to stuff all my belongings inside.  “It’s okay, Luna, he’ll forgive you and if he doesn’t, well, you can always make him.” Blu winked and all the girls giggled mischievously. We had grown close over the past month and they’d become more like little sisters than pack members.  “I’ll have to remember that.” I teased and dashed out of the gym, calling a goodbye to them before I disappeared.  A few new girls had joined training within the month which brought our numbers up to

Chapter Ninety-Four

I was seated in the waiting area with Alpha Oliver and Luna Yasmin at my side when Nathan came furiously wheeling into the hospital with Halle in tow.  “Where is he, is he okay?” Nathan panted when he was close enough to be heard.  “He’s in surgery.” I supplied, surprising myself.  “What happened?” Nathan demanded and my eyes turned to him, glaring lasers at his skull.  “Nathan, I think we should talk outside.” Alpha Oliver stood up with stern eyes and with a single look in my direction, Nathan conceded.  “Are you okay?” Halle took the vacant seat beside me, placing h

Chapter Ninety-Five

The greatest irony of the world lies in expectations, as I rushed around preparing for a ceremony worthy of an Alpha I tried my hardest to suppress the bitterness that was building inside of me.  Though I was not alone in my endeavours, everyone who I’d ever held dear to me was by my side, I couldn’t help the feeling of emptiness that engulfed me, the devastation that existed in my every breath, because the only person in the world it ever mattered to have by my side, was no longer there.  I couldn’t get over the irony of everyone insisting that the funeral be prepared with the utmost care to make it one worthy of a king, because “not only was Jasper an Alpha, he was a member of the Honour race”. Between the condolences and the suggestions, everyone seemed to have to make sure his final send-of

Chapter Ninety-Six

Daniel and I rushed to the temple of the Moon Goddess where Jasper’s body once lay in state in the glass casket for pack members and well wishes to pay their last respect, as was the tradition of the High Tide pack before an Alpha is laid to rest. A chill ran down my spine when my eyes landed on the broken glass but other than that there was no lingering scent that indicated another had been there. “Luna, you should see this.” Jason’s jaw clenched as he led me outside. “A single set of footprints.” Turning my eyes back to the broken glass inside, “I want all the footage of this area checked, why didn’t the alarms go off when someone breached the border?” my jaw clenched and I tried to suppress the anxious palpitations building in my chest. “The silent alarm sounded to indicate someone was close to the border, which is why the guards left their stations to check, when they returned after confirming nothing was out of place, they found this.” He motioned to the footprints and broken

Chapter Ninety-Seven

My fist slammed into the brick wall with such force the cement crumbled beneath my skin and gasps rang through the group of guards that were gathered in my office. “Strike three.” I seethed and my fists clenched at my side, “Everyone out!” I barked, motioning to the door with my hand, but my eyes remained locked on the man who called himself the Beta of this pack. Daniel remained frozen in position, knowing full well if he made a move, he would feel my wrath. “Have a seat, Daniel.” I spun on my heel when the door clicked shut, moving to the side table to pour myself a glass of water. “Luna, please let me explain.” He gulped and even from across the room, I could hear his heart pounding unsteadily in his chest. “Enlighten me.” I turned and narrowed my eyes at him with a slight smirk on my lips. “He knew we were coming. According to the staff, he left the hotel in a hurry.” Daniel tried. “And pray to tell, who do you think maybe his informant?” I leaned back against the cred

Chapter Ninety-Eight

I sat in the seat furthest to the left of the legal panel with a stoic face as the Chairperson read the charges against the accused.  “Chaz Glenford, you are hereby charged with obstruction of justice in the case of the murder of Alpha Jasper Atwater of the High Tide pack. How do you plead?” Mrs Helena looked at the man in question who stood before her in cuffs.  “Not guilty, Chairwoman.” He answered.  “Very well. Will the video of Mr Glenford’s confession be played to the counsel so it may become part of the official record?” She motioned to the technical guy to play the video they already had lined up.   Watching myself in the infrared video was a

Chapter Ninety-Nine

Alpha Allison sat to my left clutching my hand in hers while to my right sat Nathan with Halle beside him. Unlike yesterday the chamber didn’t only house the legal counsel and a select few guards, this time the stands were filled to the brim with High Tide pack members and a few neighbouring pack members. “Thank you for your patience ladies and gentlemen. The council along with the anonymous jury have considered all the evidence presented before them today and a verdict has been taken in the cases of the three defendants.” The speaker of the council announced. I felt my heartbeat quicken as the moment of truth approached. This was what we’d worked so hard for so many months, I only hoped the council saw in them the same thing I did. “We will deliver the verdict and sentencing in the same order the trials took place. Warden, please bring in the first defendant, Isaac Brown.” The speaker motioned to the stand and within minutes the once-loved pack warrior stood on the stand await

Chapter One Hundred

Cold water burned a trail down my back making me shiver, but what was supposed to be an uncomfortable feeling, made me feel alive. The cold water washed away the tears before they had the chance to ingrain themselves in my skin. These were the parts I hid from the world. To everyone, it was over. The men responsible for snatching Jasper away from us had received their punishment and life went on without them, but to me, even the momentary satisfaction of seeing them writhe in pain before they died didn’t make up for the loss. Shutting off the water, I stepped out of the shower and wrapped myself in a fluffy bath sheet, paying little mind to the blue tinge of my lips and the lifelessness in my eyes as I passed the mirror on my way to the walk-in closet. If a stranger were to visit nothing would seem amiss, Jasper’s clothes still hung neatly on the left side of the closet as if he would suddenly reappear behind me and rip a T-shirt off the hanger for me to slip into before bed.
