“That was excellent girls, let’s wrap it up for today. We’ll have a session to reflect on this month’s progress next Monday. I have a meeting with the Alpha and I’m already late.” I rushed to grab my bag to stuff all my belongings inside.

“It’s okay, Luna, he’ll forgive you and if he doesn’t, well, you can always make him.” Blu winked and all the girls giggled mischievously. We had grown close over the past month and they’d become more like little sisters than pack members.

“I’ll have to remember that.” I teased and dashed out of the gym, calling a goodbye to them before I disappeared.

A few new girls had joined training within the month which brought our numbers up to

I was seated in the waiting area with Alpha Oliver and Luna Yasmin at my side when Nathan came furiously wheeling into the hospital with Halle in tow.“Where is he, is he okay?” Nathan panted when he was close enough to be heard.“He’s in surgery.” I supplied, surprising myself.“What happened?” Nathan demanded and my eyes turned to him, glaring lasers at his skull.“Nathan, I think we should talk outside.” Alpha Oliver stood up with stern eyes and with a single look in my direction, Nathan conceded.“Are you okay?” Halle took the vacant seat beside me, placing h

The greatest irony of the world lies in expectations, as I rushed around preparing for a ceremony worthy of an Alpha I tried my hardest to suppress the bitterness that was building inside of me.Though I was not alone in my endeavours, everyone who I’d ever held dear to me was by my side, I couldn’t help the feeling of emptiness that engulfed me, the devastation that existed in my every breath, because the only person in the world it ever mattered to have by my side, was no longer there.I couldn’t get over the irony of everyone insisting that the funeral be prepared with the utmost care to make it one worthy of a king, because “not only was Jasper an Alpha, he was a member of the Honour race”. Between the condolences and the suggestions, everyone seemed to have to make sure his final send-of

Daniel and I rushed to the temple of the Moon Goddess where Jasper’s body once lay in state in the glass casket for pack members and well wishes to pay their last respect, as was the tradition of the High Tide pack before an Alpha is laid to rest. A chill ran down my spine when my eyes landed on the broken glass but other than that there was no lingering scent that indicated another had been there. “Luna, you should see this.” Jason’s jaw clenched as he led me outside. “A single set of footprints.” Turning my eyes back to the broken glass inside, “I want all the footage of this area checked, why didn’t the alarms go off when someone breached the border?” my jaw clenched and I tried to suppress the anxious palpitations building in my chest. “The silent alarm sounded to indicate someone was close to the border, which is why the guards left their stations to check, when they returned after confirming nothing was out of place, they found this.” He motioned to the footprints and broken

My fist slammed into the brick wall with such force the cement crumbled beneath my skin and gasps rang through the group of guards that were gathered in my office. “Strike three.” I seethed and my fists clenched at my side, “Everyone out!” I barked, motioning to the door with my hand, but my eyes remained locked on the man who called himself the Beta of this pack. Daniel remained frozen in position, knowing full well if he made a move, he would feel my wrath. “Have a seat, Daniel.” I spun on my heel when the door clicked shut, moving to the side table to pour myself a glass of water. “Luna, please let me explain.” He gulped and even from across the room, I could hear his heart pounding unsteadily in his chest. “Enlighten me.” I turned and narrowed my eyes at him with a slight smirk on my lips. “He knew we were coming. According to the staff, he left the hotel in a hurry.” Daniel tried. “And pray to tell, who do you think maybe his informant?” I leaned back against the cred

I sat in the seat furthest to the left of the legal panel with a stoic face as the Chairperson read the charges against the accused.“Chaz Glenford, you are hereby charged with obstruction of justice in the case of the murder of Alpha Jasper Atwater of the High Tide pack. How do you plead?” Mrs Helena looked at the man in question who stood before her in cuffs.“Not guilty, Chairwoman.” He answered.“Very well. Will the video of Mr Glenford’s confession be played to the counsel so it may become part of the official record?” She motioned to the technical guy to play the video they already had lined up.Watching myself in the infrared video was a

Alpha Allison sat to my left clutching my hand in hers while to my right sat Nathan with Halle beside him. Unlike yesterday the chamber didn’t only house the legal counsel and a select few guards, this time the stands were filled to the brim with High Tide pack members and a few neighbouring pack members. “Thank you for your patience ladies and gentlemen. The council along with the anonymous jury have considered all the evidence presented before them today and a verdict has been taken in the cases of the three defendants.” The speaker of the council announced. I felt my heartbeat quicken as the moment of truth approached. This was what we’d worked so hard for so many months, I only hoped the council saw in them the same thing I did. “We will deliver the verdict and sentencing in the same order the trials took place. Warden, please bring in the first defendant, Isaac Brown.” The speaker motioned to the stand and within minutes the once-loved pack warrior stood on the stand await

Cold water burned a trail down my back making me shiver, but what was supposed to be an uncomfortable feeling, made me feel alive. The cold water washed away the tears before they had the chance to ingrain themselves in my skin. These were the parts I hid from the world. To everyone, it was over. The men responsible for snatching Jasper away from us had received their punishment and life went on without them, but to me, even the momentary satisfaction of seeing them writhe in pain before they died didn’t make up for the loss. Shutting off the water, I stepped out of the shower and wrapped myself in a fluffy bath sheet, paying little mind to the blue tinge of my lips and the lifelessness in my eyes as I passed the mirror on my way to the walk-in closet. If a stranger were to visit nothing would seem amiss, Jasper’s clothes still hung neatly on the left side of the closet as if he would suddenly reappear behind me and rip a T-shirt off the hanger for me to slip into before bed. The pain in my body registered around the same time as the steady beeping of the heart monitor did. Cracking one eye open at a time I recognised the typical design of the hospital room and a deep sigh left my lips. Searching for the call button for the nurse, I held down the red button till I heard the alarm going off at the nurse’s station just down the hallway. “Luna! You’re awake, are you feeling okay?” A nurse came bursting through the door and rushed to my side. “I’m feeling okay, thank you. How long have I been out?” I groaned as I tried pushing myself up on the bed and her hand shot out to stop me. “Wait.” Instead of helping me up, she pressed a button on the remote and the bed lifted me into a seated position automatically. “Thank you, how long have I been out?” I repeated. “About two hours. The doctor is on his way, Luna.” She nodded and offered me a glass of water that was covered at the side. “Luna Atwater, welcome back.” Doctor Brendan smiled when he entered th

Jasper dragged me through the forest in the direction of the clearing. “Jas, slow down!” I cried as I giggled uncontrollably, hopping over fallen branches and dodging low branches. “We have to get there before the sun sets!” He proclaimed and all I could do was shake my head. The sun was still quite high in the sky since it was only three in the afternoon. Arriving at the clearing I gasped when my eyes landed on the checkered picnic blanket set up at the base of the large rock. “We’re a bit too big to fit up there anymore.” He pointed to the rock with a grin. “You did all this for me?” My heart melted into a puddle and tears pooled in my eyes. “Of course I did- Baby, why are you crying?” Don’t you like it, we can go somewhere else. I’m sorry, please don’t cry. I’m sorry.” Jasper gathered me in his arms and stroked my hair as I tried to get my emotions under control. “No! No, I love it, I’m just a little emotional, that’s it.” I hiccupped, taking a step back s he could see the sm

I stood awkwardly beside the tiny sofa where Jasper’s large form took up most of the space. Halle and Nathan had welcomed us in when we arrived at their door, but I the tension in our presence was palpable. “How do you feel?” Nathan asked suddenly. “Fine, I guess,” Jasper answered curtly, accepting the cup of coffee Halle offered him. “Have your memories returned?” Nathan shifted uncomfortably in his seat, glancing at me from the corner of his eye. “Some of them. Why are you holed up in this tiny cottage in the middle of nowhere when you have a whole pack house and several guest houses nearby everything? Surely it isn’t easy getting around the forest with that thing.” Jasper motioned to the wheelchair. Nathan’s eyes turned to me with confusion, I could see the question in his eyes. “He doesn’t know,” I stated, not looking at Jasper when his eyes turned to me. “Doesn’t know what?” Jasper narrowed his eyes as he glanced between us. “The pack wants nothing to do with me.” N

“What?” I asked shakily. “I remember your voice.” He stared at me with startled eyes, “I heard you, Sophia.” He scrambled off the bed and shuffled towards me. Jasper took my hands in his, “I heard you asking me to fight.” Jasper ran a hand through his hair while I just stood there, shell-shocked. “Ho- How? You were unconscious.” I croaked, my throat felt like it was closing up. “I don’t know. I don’t know how.” He shook his head gravely. “Do you remember anything else?” I asked hesitantly and Jasper’s eyebrows knitted in concentration. “I- I think I saw you, but it feels like a dream. You were walking towards me- dressed in a purple vest that hugged your figure, and you had a duffle bag over your shoulder. You smiled at me.” He had a faraway look in his eyes and his hands squeezed mine as he recalled the memory. “That was just before-” “-I was stabbed in the back.” He completed my sentence and looked at me with startled eyes. “Do you-?” I couldn't even get the words out,

Jasper sucked in a deep breath when we entered the pack house. It was still early which meant the grounds were practically empty when we made our way over there, but inside, pack members hustled and bustled around getting ready for the day.“I’m right here. Just tell me when you want to leave and we’re out of here.” I squeezed his hand in mine.Jasper had taken the news of his true identity quite well, I knew it was because he hardly understood what his position meant or what he meant to the pack. It’s been a week since he crashed my inauguration ceremony and we’ve made good progress, today was the first day he’d be around so many pack members at once and so far he was doing great as he greeted everyone we passed with a kind smile.

“Ardere…” I reached out shakily, glancing between his troubled eyes and reddened fingers. Ardere’s eyes met mine and for a moment he just stared as I took hesitant steps closer while I felt like my heart would beat out of my chest. “Stop! What are you doing, you could get hurt!” Nathan’s voice travelled through the crowd and Ardere’s eyes widened. He went to pull away, but before his hand was out of reach, I threaded my fingers through his and held on tight. “He wouldn’t hurt me,” I whispered, squeezing his hand in mine as pleasurable tingles spread up my arm from his touch. “My Jasper wouldn’t hurt me.” My vision swam with tears as the truth hit me square in the face. It was him, if there was any doubt before, there wasn’t now. “Jasper?” He questioned shakily. “Yes, it’s you, it’s really you.” I choked on a sob, the relief that spread through my body warmed my heart and for the first time in three months, I smiled a genuine smile, watery but genuine. “I- uh…” He trailed off an

The pack buzzed with excitement as the three of us climbed the stairs, everyone was whispering about the bulky man who walked behind me with confidence radiating from his being.Marcel and Jason took their places behind me as I stood at the podium, “Good evening High Tiders.” I grinned widely. “First, I’d like to thank you all for taking the time to be here tonight. We’ve faced some tough times as a pack, but I’d like to think this is the beginning of a new era.” I looked around at the hopeful faces that stared back at me, pausing a little when I caught sight of Nathan and Halle seated right at the back.“With that, I’d like you all to meet Marcel Miller.” I motioned to him when he stepped up beside me and nodded at the crowd before him, “Marcel was a warri

You can watch TV and play around with my tablet while I’m gone, use the time to try and figure out some of the things you don’t remember, but don’t make a lot of noise please, I don’t want anyone poking around here.” I motioned around the house.“I’ll be back late today, there’s food in the fridge, you can heat it up in the microwave.” I pointed to the appliance behind me and turned back to look him dead in the eye, “You have to stay here, okay? Under no circumstances can anyone find out you’re here, so please just stay hidden and if you hear anything, hide. “You can wear these for now.” My jaw clenched as I handed him some of Jasper’s clothes.“Thank you.” He took them from me, his fingers brushing mine in the process and without thinking I snatched away my hand like he burned me and his eyes flashed with hurt.“I’m sorry.” I looked down, holding my hand to my chest.“It’s okay.” He flashed me a tight smile and for a moment an awkward silence fell between us.“I’ve uh- been thinking, we need to find you a name, at least till we figure out who you are.” I cringed a little at my own word, hoping he didn’t see how awkward I felt.

My heart thudded wildly in my chest as Selene’s utterance registered in my mind.“Wh- who are you?” I swallowed thickly, reaching behind me to steady myself on the boulder.“I’m sorry for following you, I didn’t mean to scare you.” His soothing baritone voice sent shivers down my spine and tears gathered in my eyes without warning.“No, this can’t be real, I must be dreaming.” I shook my head vigorously and stumbled back into the rock before I spun around and took off in the direction of the High Tide pack.‘This can’t be happening. It’s just a dream.’ I repeated
