Chapter Eighty-One

“You good?” I looked up at Jasper strangely, the baffled look on his face was hard to comprehend.   “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine.” He nodded and pursed his lips before huffing, “I’m surprised, baffled and a little suspicious.” He tilted his head, still looking forward to our path.    “Not gonna lie, I’m pretty confused by the turn of events myself. I was expecting a lot more hostility.” I shrugged.    “Do you know where his mate and daughters are staying, I’d like to meet them.” He asked.    “Yeah, it’s the pack guesthouse near Susie’s house, we can stop by there later, I think they need some rest after the trip and emotional rollercoaster they were thrown onto,” I suggested, pushing open the door to the Alp

Chapter Eighty-Two

“Allison was right, you’re really good with kids.” Halle leaned against the doorframe with a tired smile on her face and I was about to answer when I was cut off by a loud voice. “I can do it myself!” Halle and I shared a look hearing Nathan’s aggravated voice and we both took off in the direction of their bedroom where Jasper was supposed to be helping him settle in after his return from the hospital. “I’m trying to help you, will you stop behaving like a child?” Jasper snapped back. “Oh, now you want to help? What about when I was actually a kid, where were you then?” Nathan’s sarcastic voice met my ears just as Halle pushed open the door. “You know what, Nathan? Whatever.” Jasper threw his hands up in surrender and stumbled backwards before turning around to storm out of the room, barely sparing me a glance. “Nathan…” Halle shook her head at her mate and turned around to run after Jasper. “What?” He looked after her with uncertain eyes. “The day you realise that you weren’t

Chapter Eighty-Three

The four of us stared at Nathan with wide eyes and jaws slackened. “What did you just say?” Jasper leaned forward, disbelief lacing his tone. “I think we should go somewhere a little more private,” Halle suggested, eyeing the curious passersby warily. “You can use my office in the pack house.” Alpha Allison nodded at me and shared a look with Marcel. Jasper and I walked ahead of Halle and Nathan in the wheelchair, neither saying a word, but both eager to hear what the hell was going on. Sure, we weren’t certain what our future held, but that was the last thing I would have thought of. Shutting the door behind them, Jasper turned to Nathan with his arms crossed over his chest and a frown set between his eyes. "Alright, now talk!" he ordered. "Take a seat, Jasper." Nathan tried, but my mate remained standing. "I'm fine, thanks," he responded impatiently. Nathan sighed and looked up at Jasper with serious eyes, "Do you know why Dad tried so hard to get you to train and take on re

Chapter Eighty-Four

Pack members stared at us as we entered the pack behind Nathan and Halle, some stared calculatingly, while others just looked at us in awe.  “Is there a reason they’re all staring?” Jasper questioned casually and I’m sure those who were close enough heard him.  “We live in the twenty-first century, Jasper. Videos of the battle against Alaster Dark have spread far and wide.” Nathan snarked, not looking back from his wheelchair.  “I’m guessing they recognise us as the Honour Race then,” I mumbled.  “I hope you guys don’t mind, the pack wanted to throw a small welcome home party for their Alpha and the warriors who fought in the battl

Chapter Eighty-Five

“No! Who the hell does she think she is?” Elizabeth sneered at me and my eyes widened in alarm, her blaring voice carried across the crowded space, gaining the attention of practically every pack member within a two-kilometre radius.  “Elizabeth-” I started, but once again she cut me off.  “You’re just some nobody that turned out to be Jasper’s mate, you don’t mean anything to this pack and you never will. You have no right to tell me what to do.” She spat and I felt my blood boil.  Selene fought for control over my conscious mind, but I resisted, sucking in a calming breath.  “Too bad that isn’t your decision to make,” I sta

Chapter Eighty-Six

“Christopher?” My eyebrows knitted when I recognised the man on the other side of the threshold, “What are you doing here?” “Honestly, I don’t know.” He answered, with a lost look on his face and my frown deepened. “What do you mean you don’t know?” I hadn’t seen or spoken to Christopher since we fought, which is why I was even more confused to see him standing before me. “Are you going somewhere?” He glanced at the suitcases beside the door with confusion. “Christopher, why are you here?” I narrowed my eyes at him and just then the bathroom door opened and Jasper emerged from the steam. “I uh… You told me to come to you?” He asked more than answered and for a moment I was confused before it dawned on me. Mother Selene. “When?” I cross-questioned, feeling Jasper come to stand with his chest against my back. Christopher sighed and shook his head, taking a small step back, “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have come.” He mumbled and went to turn around, but I stopped him. “No, it’s

Chapter Eighty-Seven

Nathan sat glued to his wheelchair with his hands clenched at his side while Jasper paced up and down the short corridor of the emergency wing of the pack infirmary. “What’s taking so long?” Jasper grumbled. “Okay, that’s enough, sit down!” I stood up, growing frustrated by his nervous pacing. “You’re stressing us all out by doing that, it’s not going to make them work any faster.” I scolded with a frown knitted between my brows. “Would you be sitting down if it were Ben in there?” he shot back and for a moment I was shocked, Jasper had been cold in the past, but the careless manner in which he spoke was new to me. “Sophia’s right. Your pacing is making me antsier.” Nathan mumbled, never taking his eyes off the swing doors they wheeled her through almost an hour ago. Jasper sighed, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to say all that to you.” He grimaced and collapsed into the chair beside the one I was sitting in. Seeing the stress lines appearing on his forehead, I took a seat beside him

Chapter Eighty-Eight

Jasper and I walked stiffly to the front of the arena as pack members parted like the red sea to allow us through, some smiles and others nods of respect. This reception was a far cry from the attitude we received when we walked amongst them for days.  Coming to a stand beside the podium on which Nathan and Halle stood, we listened to Nathan address them.  “In light of the recent attack on my family, Halle and I have decided to step down as the Alpha and Luna of the High Tide Pack.”  A collective gasp rang through the pack, his news was a shock to most and many eyes strayed towards us.  “The title will be passed down to my brother and his mate, the rightful Alpha and Luna of the

Chapter Eighty-Nine

Jasper stood stiffly beside me as Nathan wheeled towards Daniel with the Alpha scroll in hand. Unrolling the scroll, Daniel looked at us pointedly, “Repeat after me and insert your name where applicable.” He cleared his throat, “I insert your name.” “I, Jasper Atwater,” “I, Sophia Hastings,” we chorused. “Accept the position and title of Alpha or Luna of the High Tide pack with the utmost honour and respect for my land and my pack members.” He completed the sacred oath and we repeated it after him. “I promise to uphold the values of the High Tide pack, to honour the sacred oath and always put the needs of my pack above all,” Jasper added. “I promise to support and protect my Alpha and pack and always put the needs of the High Tide pack first,” I added, saying my prepared piece as we planned. “As per the tradition of the High Tide pack, the hands of the Alpha and his successor shall be cut to solidify the transfer of the Alphaship.” Beta Daniel unfolded the red velvet mat

Daniel stared at Jasper and I with a look of surprise, confusion and anger when Jasper delivered the news. “What do you mean I’ll be stepping down as the pack trainer? It’s been the Beta’s responsibility for generations.” He frowned deeply. Ignoring his question, Jasper continued his explanation, “Jason will take over the everyday training of the pack under the title of head trainer. While you oversee his training programs, you will not be physically there for every training. As the Beta, your job is more than to train the pack, you have to see to all the security of the pack which includes the border patrol.”The frown never left Daniel’s face but he nodded in understanding, “So I’m not being removed as Beta?” He questioned confusedly. Jasper’s face morphed into one of disbelief and I had to hold back my laughter so it didn’t burst and ruin the serious mood in the office. To Daniel’s left, Jason sat with an amused smirk on his face. “No, where did you get that idea from? We are s
