Chapter 72 Dolls Become Me

Never have I heard silence be this loud. Currently, I am in a hospital room with my birth mother, along with Ajax and a few medical staff in the room. Ajax spotted us while we were playing in the garden and had the nurses take my mother back to her room. Apparently, she escaped her room while the nurses were out to get some medicines for her. Unbeknownst to me, I casually took her to the garden, not knowing that she had escaped at the time. The nurses confronted Ajax about it, which explains why he was talking to the nurses when we arrived since they were informing him about my mother’s escape. Then, while they were having some issues with my missing mother, I disappeared as well. It would be understandable if Ajax was angry but he wasn’t. When he saw me with my mother, he just stared. Something about his gaze was telling me that he knew that I had found out the identity of the woman I was with. I guess that makes it one of the reasons why Ajax didn’t scold me. “How are you feelin

Chapter 73 Mental Visitor

A few days had passed since I met my mother in the hospital. Actually, I just figured out that the hospital that my mother is in is a mental hospital. Based on what I learned, it is a place for people who lost their minds due to trauma. My mother, Jolina, must have undergone some serious trauma for her to lose her mind almost completely like that. I haven’t had the slightest clue what kind of trauma she endured, but I couldn’t care less. I am just trying to erase the memory of her from my mind. At least that’s my plan, but Ajax isn’t one to let me off the hook for some reason. For the last five days, he has been very keen on following me. “Belle, are you seriously not going to visit your mother again?” He kept asking me for the last five days, and it has almost become so annoying that it almost made me want to choke him. “Why don’t you visit her if you keep on insisting so much?” I said in annoyance, brisk walking so I could head to class. Ajax is following right behind me, eager

Chapter 74 Heritage

My father is part of the alpha lineage. Such a thought never occurred to me. I thought that he was the pack’s beta. My father never displayed or did something that made me think that he was a leader. I look at Jolina. Some part of me thinks that she is lying, but the dreadful look in her eyes tells me that she is not. “I’ll leave you two alone,” Ajax announces. The door clicks and he soon disappears from the room, leaving me with a bundle of questions that I want to ask Jolina. I have a number of them, but none of which I know how to address. Jolina notices my discomfort. She shifts on her bed and points at the chair beside her, gesturing for me to sit. If I hadn’t had any questions, I wouldn’t have complied and left, but I wanted to know more about how my father was the alpha. I pulled up the chair and sat facing her. My mother suddenly looks older than she did when I first met her. She's been stressed for a while now. She wipes away her tears before speaking. “Judging from you

Chapter 75 Make Your Choice

I barged into Ajax’s office. He was sleeping on the couch and immediately jumped onto his feet the moment he heard the door. Upon seeing that it was me, he started to relax. Whoever he thought I was must be someone important. Considering that he is already the most important person in the werewolf division, I can only assume that he probably thought that I was someone with a higher standing in the human association. “Belle, what brings you here?” He fixes his posture, trying to look cool. “Put me on your team.” Ajax starts to sweat. “What team?” He tries to act innocent, but I already know their plans for the Lycan pack. “The plan to capture them. I want to join as well.” Before, I could not care less about what’s going to happen to them. After hearing that the pack was originally my father's, I started to care. “You can’t.” “Why can’t I?” “Because they are none of your concern anymore.” “That’s not true. I talked with my mom. My father is—” “Quiet!” Ajax dashes towards t

Chapter 76 Symbol of Challenge

I remember that it was a weekend and I was spending some time with my mother. We were visiting my father’s grave that Ajax had set up to pay respect to him. I did say that I was trying to spend some time with my mother, but in truth, we are barely talking to each other. For me, I am still not used to having a mother, much less a mother who needs to be watched by human nurses all the time. There’s little to no privacy between us, but this does not stop her from trying to ask me questions. “Did you have any friends when you were young?” My mother asks me while I am busy cleaning the grave of my father. I thought about her question for a while and could only think of Maxwell as my childhood friend. “I did.” “Did? Aren’t you two still friends?” “He’s dead. Even if he were alive, I wouldn’t dare call him my friend. I would rather die instead.” My mother and the nurse who is with her both looked lost for words. They must not have expected such an innocent conversation to take such a t

Chapter 77 Nostalgia

I rush to try and catch the lycans who kidnapped Holly. My wolf and I were desperately trying to locate and grab her scent to track her down. So far, I haven’t caught even the faintest scent of her. An eerie dread nestles in my chest. The situation seems familiar. I can’t help but compare this odd familiarity of disappearing scent to the time I was trying to track down Ajax’s wolf before. Back then, I did not know about the existence of the obsidian stone. Could they have used something similar? My memory suddenly jogs back to the time when I was captured. I had my obsidian necklace back then, but I don’t remember wearing it when we returned to the academy. My heart sank when I realized that the obsidian necklace might be the reason why I couldn’t track down Holly and the other lycan. If that’s the case, there’s only one person who can help me right now. I rush back to the academy, taking as many shortcuts as I can—even the illegal ones. My breathing has become short, but it wa

Chapter 78 Voluntary Death

I didn’t know that what I used to consider home would leave me with trauma. The last time I was here was when Maxwell held me captive. It was a long time ago, but being here somehow felt like it was from recent events. The slope of the ground, the familiar twisting roots of the trees, and the fresh air this deep in the woods used to coat me with comfort after coming from a tiring hunt. Now, just being here felt like someone was squeezing my chest just to try and reach my heart. I tried my best to hide the fact that I was panting, but Ajax always pays close attention to me and immediately notices it. Ajax was walking in front of me, trailing the path back to the lycans’ lair when he suddenly looks back upon noticing the change in my breathing. At first, it was just a short glance to check if he was hearing right. My face must have been more worrying than I thought because Ajax slides down the trail and hurries over to get to me. Worry paints his face when he gently takes my should

Chapter 79 A Challenge

Alpha Lupert gazes down upon me with a steady gaze. Even from where I am, I can feel the brewing hatred from him in his aura. I grew scared at first, but the fear soon subsided when the burning rage ate away all other fleeting emotions I had. If anyone should be angry, it should be me. The Lycan I am facing is the root cause of all of my hardships. He took away my family, my life, and now, he took Holly. “You gained a look in your eye while staying with the humans.” He comments. He was almost growling and chewing out the words while talking in his lycan form. He then snorted. “Though it doesn’t seem to stop you from being a foolish coward. I can’t believe that it takes us to take a human girl for you to show yourself instead of hiding behind human walls.” ‘I wasn’t hiding.’ Unlike the lycans, I cannot speak with my mouth when I am in wolf form. ‘I was contemplating something.’ “Care to share what a traitor like you is thinking about after murdering my son?” He is going to regre

Chapter 80 Broken Pledge

My ears were ringing when everyone was rendered speechless at my declaration in challenging his position. ‘Belle, what is this about?’ I can understand where Ajax’s confusion is. We talked about me taking over the pack before, and we deemed that it wouldn’t be wise if I am not fully committed to the role. ‘Don’t worry.’ I reassure him. ‘My intention for the challenge isn’t halfhearted.’ I briefly meet Ajax’s gaze, hoping my gaze can convince him of my conviction. As much as I hate the alpha, this is still my home. This is where I grew up. And although I didn’t have the best childhood, it doesn’t mean that I didn’t grow up with love. Not all Lycans rolled their eyes on us or made fun of us. Not all humans and werewolves are bad, just like not all lycans are. If that were true, I would have grown up to become rotten since my dad is a lycan. It’s just a matter of how the leader leads their colony. Ajax steps back. A proud smile seemed to creep on his wolfish feature. ‘You got th

Chapter 81 Inside a Different Body

I am filled with rage to the point that my mind is clouded. I am not sure what I am here for, but I want to wreck everything. Strong emotions are driving me to howl loudly. It was a loud howl that could even rival the howl of an alpha. The strong waves from my howl shook the cave and making my ears ring. A movement draws me to the closest target in front of me. He is a bigger looking lycan. I believe that he is the current Alpha of the pack—I forgot his name. Just looking at him is somehow igniting a strong fire of rage in my chest. I can’t remember what he did or what I am doing here. There’s one thing in my mind that was clear, though. It is to get rid of that lycan. I want to see him bleed. I want to see him in pain. A ferocious growl escapes my lips, and I find myself moving towards him. My legs feel heavy. I think I am moving slower than I originally do, but the strength that I carry feels like it is more than doubled. I wildly swing a claw at the lycan before me. The opposin
