Sixty one: Coward

Seth••••••• "Two more to go!" Jerome announced.  Letting out a loud groan, I pulled my chest forward, did the last two push-ups. What a relief. I was finally done working out for the evening. It had felt like it wouldn't ever end.  "Thank God," I said amidst hard breath.  "Good job." Jerome and I hit our fists against each other, and he gave me a bottle of water.  "Thanks," I appreciated. I gulped down the whole content in the bottle, then we made our way out of my home gym.  When we got to the kitchen, he took his backpack from the counter, began arranging his gym clothes into the bag. I took my phone from the counter too, went through my messages. Seeing a text from Dad's doctor, I felt something heavy dropping against my chest. I tugge

Sixty two: Our Vow

I kept my hands in the pocket of my pants, stared blankly at her. I really didn't know what to say. I knew I was angry and upset, yet, I was unable to vent the right emotion on her. Was I supposed to keep quiet, or ask her to leave? For the first time since I had known her, she looked so nervous to speak to me. Those brown eyes held a bit of fear, and she seemed as gentle as a dove. All of these were nothing but pretence. Everyone knew that Louella was crazy.  "Can we please… talk?" She probably noticed I wasn't ready to speak, so she broke the silence lingering around us.  Again, I scoffed. "About what? Don't get what's going on." She sighed. "I know you're angry. But, we've gotta talk, huh?" I suddenly felt irritated. I wasn't an idiot. No one had ever dared to treat me this way, so how could she? When I had needed her around, she had disappeared. Now, she had

Sixty three: Fart-head

As I cleaned the dishes I had used to cook breakfast for Seth and me, I couldn't stop smiling. I felt so joyful and shy. For the first time in my entire life, I had gotten laid last night. And, what made me even more happy, was the fact that it hadn't been lust. It had been purely love.  Immediately I had woken up, I had had my bath, and had come downstairs to cook something for Seth and me. Erin had sent a text, saying I had to come to work as soon as possible. Though I still felt like spending some time with Seth, I knew I shouldn't joke with my work.  "How's my baby?" I flinched on hearing that voice. Well, I guessed I had to get used to getting startled by him. But why did he like doing that? He wrapped his arms around me from behind, pecked my neck. "Did you sleep well?" "Yes, I did." I giggled as his breath hitched my ear. "And, what about you?"

Sixty four: Warning.

I threw scowls at Leo as he sat beside Rachel, on the three seaters couch in my office. He looked down, obviously scared to look me in the eye. How in the world had Rachel chosen a boyfriend like him? Yeah, he was cute, but so? What was the point in being cute, yet dumb? "If you don't speak now, you'll be fired. Tell me, why did you break her heart?" I demanded, tapping my feet against the hard marble floor of my office.  He heaved, and stared at me. "Well, you see, my dad's a racist. He only wants me to be with a white woman." "What the heck? Do idiots like that still exist?" I threw my arms up in surprise.  "I tried convincing him that Rachel's mixed, expecting him to consider the fact that she's got a white parent, but no, he didn't care," he continued.  I huffed. "Then why did you get her pregnant, knowing fully well that your so-called dad won't accept her?"

Sixty five: Just Gotten Started

I really didn't want to believe this. Not for once would I have expected the culprit to be Neo. Wait, he was only my bouncer. We shared no personal relationship, so what did he have against me? Despite all I had done for him? Why were people always this ungrateful to me? "Ms. Warren, do you know him?" The officer cut me off my thoughts.  Petrified, I nodded hesitantly. "Yes. He works for me. A-And I don't get what he wants. I haven't ever done anything bad to him." "Oh, great. If you know where he is right now, we'll get him arrested immediately. This is a case of attempted murder. He'll have to go to jail," he avowed.  I took my intercom, called Rachel, trying to be as stable as possible. Soon, she came in. I also pressed the emergency button which was installed on my table, which made twenty to thirty of my men rush into my office.  I turned around to face them a

Sixty six: Accomplice

Celina••••••••• I had made up my mind. I was going to tell Seth how I felt about him. I knew it was going to be awkward, but this would be my first move. This time around, I had made an ultimate decision to be as dangerous as possible. This was crazy, but yes, I needed this. If Louella wasn't ready to let go of Seth, then why should I let go? This was a battle, and I would surely win.  I watched as Seth focused on his laptop, concentrating on it as if I wasn't even here. To grab his attention, I had to clear my throat.  "Oh. Celina, I'm so sorry for the delay. Give me a sec," he said.  I tightened my fist to keep my hands warm. Though I was in ankle boots, my feet were cold. I knew I was taking a really harsh and scary step. However, eventually, I wouldn't regret doing it.

Sixty seven: Wrong Lover

Erin••••• Since things hadn't been going so well for me, I had decided to brush off my unnecessary emotions by spending some time with my friends. And yes, that decision was working well for me. Louella was busy with her man for the night, Lina had travelled to Los Angeles, my cousin wasn't around, so I had had no choice but to come out here and have dinner with Fred.  We were both walking down the silent and scanty street, chatting, being completely free and comfortable with each other. Okay, I wouldn't say I was completely comfortable. Well, it wasn't because I was alone with him. It was because we were on the same street Jerome usually stopped by to have his dinner every week, after getting back from work. In particular, he always came to a small restaurant by the end of the street. "Um… I'm sorry to bring this up." Fred cut the silence bet

Sixty eight: Accident

Louella•••••••••• I was already so bored of mom's advice. She had come to my office since about two hours ago, and had said she wanted to spend some time with Seth and me. Well, there was no big deal about that, but could someone tell her that this was eight already? Seth and I were supposed to go on a date, but now, she had made that not to happen.  "So, Louella, you'll have to respect him, okay? That's how to be a good woman to your husband," mom announced.  "Mom!" I whined, and threw my arms up. The corner of my eyes could see Seth laughing at me, which was quite embarrassing. "We aren't even married yet! Please, stop this now, huh? I'm not comfortable with this conversation any longer." She giggled. "You silly girl. Fine, fine, I'll end my conversation here. It seems like you don't want me to sta

Sixty nine: Optimistic

I watched as the emergency nurses pushed Erin, mom and my driver's stretcher towards the emergency room. I couldn't cry anymore, because I was in a state of shock. I had only ever seen people get this injured in movies, and wouldn't have ever thought that it would happen to people I knew.  The blood which was dripping from Erin's head didn't seem like it was going to stop. They were all unconscious, but I had a great feeling that Erin might not survive this. Mom and my driver weren't bleeding this much. They didn't look so injured like her.  As soon as they shut the door of the emergency room, I froze in my tracks. If anything had to happen to these people, I wouldn't be able to live a good life. I would be in grief for the rest of my life. Only about an hour ago, I had seen them. Mom had been smiling, Erin had been crying. Only if I had known, I wouldn't have let them go in my car.  "It'll be fine." Seth

Seventy: Gone.

I watched dad as he breathed slowly. It was nice to see him come back to life, but it was upsetting to see him struggle to breath. He inhaled and exhaled hard, his eyes glued to the ceiling above us. For some reason, he hadn't said anything to me.  I sat on the stool beside him, held his hand, squeezed it in mine. I felt a little bit of tears in my eyes, because I knew something wasn't right. The man I knew wouldn't ever stay this quiet on seeing his beloved Seth Lee. He would have said something about Louella, and would have given me some good advice on how to maintain my relationship with her.  "Dad, are you fine?" Tanya cut the silence which was dashing around us.  She sat on the other side of the bed, took dad's second hand. Mom stood behind her, mom eyes glued to the floor, probably because she was embarrassed to look at the man she had abandoned for years.  Dad took another
