I threw scowls at Leo as he sat beside Rachel, on the three seaters couch in my office. He looked down, obviously scared to look me in the eye. How in the world had Rachel chosen a boyfriend like him? Yeah, he was cute, but so? What was the point in being cute, yet dumb?

"If you don't speak now, you'll be fired. Tell me, why did you break her heart?" I demanded, tapping my feet against the hard marble floor of my office.

He heaved, and stared at me. "Well, you see, my dad's a racist. He only wants me to be with a white woman."

"What the heck? Do idiots like that still exist?" I threw my arms up in surprise.

"I tried convincing him that Rachel's mixed, expecting him to consider the fact that she's got a white parent, but no, he didn't care," he continued.

I huffed. "Then why did you get her pregnant, knowing fully well that your so-called dad won't accept her?"

I really didn't want to believe this. Not for once would I have expected the culprit to be Neo. Wait, he was only my bouncer. We shared no personal relationship, so what did he have against me? Despite all I had done for him? Why were people always this ungrateful to me?"Ms. Warren, do you know him?" The officer cut me off my thoughts.Petrified, I nodded hesitantly. "Yes. He works for me. A-And I don't get what he wants. I haven't ever done anything bad to him.""Oh, great. If you know where he is right now, we'll get him arrested immediately. This is a case of attempted murder. He'll have to go to jail," he avowed.I took my intercom, called Rachel, trying to be as stable as possible. Soon, she came in. I also pressed the emergency button which was installed on my table, which made twenty to thirty of my men rush into my office.I turned around to face them a

Celina•••••••••I had made up my mind. I was going to tell Seth how I felt about him. I knew it was going to be awkward, but this would be my first move. This time around, I had made an ultimate decision to be as dangerous as possible. This was crazy, but yes, I needed this. If Louella wasn't ready to let go of Seth, then why should I let go? This was a battle, and I would surely win.I watched as Seth focused on his laptop, concentrating on it as if I wasn't even here. To grab his attention, I had to clear my throat."Oh. Celina, I'm so sorry for the delay. Give me a sec," he said.I tightened my fist to keep my hands warm. Though I was in ankle boots, my feet were cold. I knew I was taking a really harsh and scary step. However, eventually, I wouldn't regret doing it.

Erin•••••Since things hadn't been going so well for me, I had decided to brush off my unnecessary emotions by spending some time with my friends. And yes, that decision was working well for me. Louella was busy with her man for the night, Lina had travelled to Los Angeles, my cousin wasn't around, so I had had no choice but to come out here and have dinner with Fred.We were both walking down the silent and scanty street, chatting, being completely free and comfortable with each other. Okay, I wouldn't say I was completely comfortable. Well, it wasn't because I was alone with him. It was because we were on the same street Jerome usually stopped by to have his dinner every week, after getting back from work. In particular, he always came to a small restaurant by the end of the street."Um… I'm sorry to bring this up." Fred cut the silence bet

Louella••••••••••I was already so bored of mom's advice. She had come to my office since about two hours ago, and had said she wanted to spend some time with Seth and me. Well, there was no big deal about that, but could someone tell her that this was eight already? Seth and I were supposed to go on a date, but now, she had made that not to happen."So, Louella, you'll have to respect him, okay? That's how to be a good woman to your husband," mom announced."Mom!" I whined, and threw my arms up. The corner of my eyes could see Seth laughing at me, which was quite embarrassing. "We aren't even married yet! Please, stop this now, huh? I'm not comfortable with this conversation any longer."She giggled. "You silly girl. Fine, fine, I'll end my conversation here. It seems like you don't want me to sta

I watched as the emergency nurses pushed Erin, mom and my driver's stretcher towards the emergency room. I couldn't cry anymore, because I was in a state of shock. I had only ever seen people get this injured in movies, and wouldn't have ever thought that it would happen to people I knew. The blood which was dripping from Erin's head didn't seem like it was going to stop. They were all unconscious, but I had a great feeling that Erin might not survive this. Mom and my driver weren't bleeding this much. They didn't look so injured like her.As soon as they shut the door of the emergency room, I froze in my tracks. If anything had to happen to these people, I wouldn't be able to live a good life. I would be in grief for the rest of my life. Only about an hour ago, I had seen them. Mom had been smiling, Erin had been crying. Only if I had known, I wouldn't have let them go in my car."It'll be fine." Seth

I watched dad as he breathed slowly. It was nice to see him come back to life, but it was upsetting to see him struggle to breath. He inhaled and exhaled hard, his eyes glued to the ceiling above us. For some reason, he hadn't said anything to me.I sat on the stool beside him, held his hand, squeezed it in mine. I felt a little bit of tears in my eyes, because I knew something wasn't right. The man I knew wouldn't ever stay this quiet on seeing his beloved Seth Lee. He would have said something about Louella, and would have given me some good advice on how to maintain my relationship with her."Dad, are you fine?" Tanya cut the silence which was dashing around us.She sat on the other side of the bed, took dad's second hand. Mom stood behind her, mom eyes glued to the floor, probably because she was embarrassed to look at the man she had abandoned for years.Dad took another

My eyes were comprehensively set on Erin who laid like a dead human on the hospital bed. She had a ventilator connected to her nostrils, while the cardiogram was reading her heartbeat. As well, she was on drip, and had been taking it for a couple of hours. Though these things were helping her to survive, to me, it felt like nothing was changing. She had undergone the surgical operation, yet she hadn't woken up.Was she going to survive?Mom was feeling good already, and would probably get discharged in a few hours, same as my driver. But here was Erin, being so close to death.I wiped off the tears on my cheek, sniffled. I didn't know what to do. To worsen all this, Seth hadn't returned yet. He had promised to be with me all through this, but for some reason, he vanished, and hadn't even bothered to call or text me. How upsetting was that?I took a deep breath, and stood up. Turning

Jerome••••••••••As soon as Louella stepped out of the room, I sighed hard. Finally, it was only Erin and me that was left in here. My eyes scanned the equipment that was attached to her body, a sudden fear running through me.What if she was truly not going to make it? What if she would really die? What would become of me?I walked towards her, and sat on the tiny space beside her. I held her hand, felt the tears running in my eyes. To be honest, I hated myself so much right now. Truly, this was all my fault. If I had expressed my true feelings, if I had accepted my feelings, if I hadn't hurt her last night, she would probably be fine by now."Since I've gotten a confirmation that you despise me, I'm ready to leave forever. I promise to go and never return. And, I hope that someday, you'll kno

The entire hall was silent. There was no doubt that everyone present in the great crowd in front of me, was in awe, feeling the intensity of the words I was speaking. I smiled a little, pacing around the stage. I stood behind the podium, and cleared my throat. "Now, this goes to the younger women in here." My hands settled on the podium, my shoulders raised proudly. "You see, people still tend to underestimate the power you have. But, I have good news for you. You're capable. What a man can do, you can also do. It's only about the mindset. Anyone can become successful. Don’t let anyone intimidate you." "Yeah," someone from the crowd agreed. I just smiled. They concentrated so much, as if their lives depended on my words. I continued, "Many ladies have lost

Seth laughed at me as I groaned and acted like a child. That was pretty annoying, but well, how could an adult be so scared to take an injection? I hated that thing so, so much. The doctor finally got rid of the syringe, and took care of the injected part of my skin. As soon as he was done with that, he arranged his box, and stood up. I kept squeezing my face like a crying child. He cleared his throat, and started, "Mrs. Lee, you're good to go for your trip. After all the tests we've done, I can confidently tell you that your body system is back to normal. The effects of the poison are completely diminished."I finally smiled. "That's good news. Thanks."Seth held my hand as he sat beside me. "Thanks, do

I sobbed. The pain I was feeling obviously wasn't as crazy as hers, but it felt like mine was worse. She gaped, groans leaving her mouth. Her lips quivered, quite obvious that she wanted to say something. Blood kept gushing out from the left side of her chest, as well as her mouth. Tears left her eyes, the gun dropping from her hand. Her body shook, seeming as if she'd lose her stability soon.I was shocked. Being shocked was an understatement. She was battling to live; battling to save herself.Alarmed, I cried, "Celina!" The moment I attempted to grip her arm, her body impelled backwards. Her legs tripped over each other, and like a weak mango tree, she fell off the cliff.Seeing that, my heart s

The beam of the rising sun shone against my eyes, making me blink slowly. I yawned, the sore pain in my head becoming quite worse. Trying to sit up, I noticed how uncomfortable I was, my hands and legs feeling stuck to something. It took a while for me to open my eyes, and to even notice all that was going on around me. The moment I realized where I was and what was happening, I gasped. I tried sitting straight on this old, dusty floor, and also tried moving away from the ray of the sun which was attacking my eyes. I looked down at my legs which were tied, struggling to help myself out of this bandage. This was already a new day, yet I was still not seen by the police. Were Becca and Celina stronger than them or what? But, I could not remain here, right? If they weren't going to come and get me, it seemed like I would have

I knew I was supposed to run over to him, and cuddled him crazily. Instead, all I was doing was to stare at him. I was really happy. To be honest, in the past few days, I had missed him a lot. There was really no point in denying that."Seth." Gently, I walked over to him, giving him a small smile. He was also smiling, but wasn't saying anything. He cupped my jaw when I reached him. "Sweetie, where have you been?" And pecked my cheek."Gosh, I've missed you." A tear left my eye. What was making me emotional? In such a terrifying situation? He leaned close, hugged me, pecked my forehead. "Oh yes, I've missed you too.""This is really hard for us." I returned his hug, weeping on his chest. Louella••••••••••I packed the last set of files into my backpack, ready to head out. Spotting a red file on my table, I narrowed my eyes at it, and grabbed it. The moment I skimmed through it, I couldn't help but gape. How in the world had I almost forgotten such an important file? This was the most needed file of all the files I had taken from here.I kept the file in my backpack, slung the backpack over my shoulder. I took a glance at my wrist watch, feeling a bit disturbed and puzzled. I had to leave here soon, before anyone would see me. If Seth had to come now, there was no doubt that he wouldn't want me to leave.First, I had to ensure that I was set to leave here. Once I got back to the beach house, since my phone was already turned on, I would book a flight online, and leave the country for a few months. In the meantime, I would ensure that I

Celina••••••••Becca's complaint was getting too annoying. Why was it so hard for her to understand that we only needed to be as patient as possible? It wasn't as if I wasn't trying my best. Here she was, complaining about her father's betrayal, while I was here, thinking of how to get Seth attracted to me.Days had passed, yet Seth wasn't willing to be close to me. I had gone to his office, and had apologized to me. Yes, he had said he forgave me, but how was I supposed to believe that if he hadn't even called or texted me? It just seemed like my effort to get him was nothing but a waste."Where the heck is Rita?!" Becca barked, smashed her phone against the floor, breathing hard like an insane dog.I rolled my eyes. "Girl, chill. She'll be back soon. I only asked her to grab some files from Louella's office. If we find Louella before

Seth••••••I wasn't feeling so well. Before Louella had come into my life, all I had been doing was to work. But, now that she had gone, it was really hard to work without her. This was so upsetting.Indeed, you only missed your lover when you let her go. To worsen all this, no one knew where she was. I had called her, had texted her, hard searched for her, but it was all to no avail. Maybe I had to file a missing report at the police station. This was too frustrating for me.Dayla walked into my office, a couple of files tugged to her chest. When she dropped the files on my table, she stood in front of the table like a mango tree, looking down.I wiggled a brow at her. "Hey, you need something? Why stand there?""Oh, sorry. I was a bit lost." She laughed weirdly. "Um, someone's here to see you. She says her name is Rita."

Louella••••••••••Staring up at the hazy sky of the evening, seated on the small stool on the porch of this old beach house, I sighed hard. I felt a heavy pain in my chest, feeling the need to cough hard. I knew I was supposed to begin my treatments, but how would I do that when I wasn't willing to go back home?It had been days since I saw anyone. After I had left Seth, I had decided to come to this beach house. This was a place Dad, mom and I used to have a vacation, just before Jan and Becca had come into our lives. Though the place gave me bad memories, I really still liked coming here. It was always filled with serenity.I stared down at my shaky fingers, felt really bad for myself. I didn't know the decision to make. Was I really going to let myself die?In a few days, I would run out of food. I had had some money in my
