Chapter 5

The color drained from Carol's face as she rushed home in a hurry.

When Carol arrived home, Caleb was feeding Eva some stew.

With reddened eyes, Carol shoved the bowl onto the floor. She couldn't stop herself from trembling as she said in a sobbing voice, "Caleb! You monster! You knew that she hadn't fully recovered yet, so why would you force her to donate her kidney to Eva? Did you know that your actions have killed her?"

Caleb was expressionless as he picked up the bowl on the floor. Then, he said coldly, "Are you out of your mind too, Mom? Lydia owed Eva a kidney, anyway! Also, did you take me for a fool? The doctor already said that the operation won't kill her! Why are you playing along with her, anyway?"

Carol's chest heaved in fury. Unable to bear it any longer, she delivered a slap across Caleb's face. "It has been days since then. Have you ever asked about Lydia's health at all?"
