Chapter 6

Roberta POV

After fainting due to weakness, I seemed to fall into a deep dream.

As the only daughter of the Alpha of the Twilight Pack. My destiny was destined from childhood to live for the interests of the tribe. Every day of life is full of responsibilities and sacrifices, and I have long been accustomed to it. Before I married Marcus, I never thought that love would become a part of my life.

I felt a warm embrace. In my blurred vision, Marcus seemed to be taking care of me carefully. He gently stroked my cheek and murmured something. I tried to struggle to open my eyes to see if this man who was once indifferent and ruthless to me had really changed.

Memories came flooding back.

The first time we met was on a summer afternoon. At that time, Marcus was a funny and gentle young werewolf, and his smile was as warm as the sun. That day, I got lost in the forest. Just when I was panicked, he appeared in front of me, took my hand, and led me back to the tribe.

"What's your name?" He asked me that day, his voice gentle and full of concern.

"Roberta." I replied shyly, looking into his deep eyes, and a strange feeling welled up in my heart.

"Roberta, do you remember the first time we met in the forest?" Marcus's voice pulled me back to reality, and there was a hint of melancholy in his tone.

I closed my eyes tightly and did not answer. I wanted to know what he would say.

Our mate relationship was formed for the harmony of the two wolf packs. I thought this was just a political marriage with no emotional basis. However, as time went by, I found myself unconsciously falling in love with him. He was sometimes gentle and sometimes cold, and I lost myself in his fickleness.

"Roberta, we must marry for the peace of the tribe." My father's words still rang in my ears. I nodded at that time and accepted this destiny.

During the period when we just became partners, Marcus was indeed gentle and considerate to me. I remember that he would pick one flower after another for me and would gently kiss my forehead when I was tired.

"Roberta, this flower was found by me deep in the forest today. It's very beautiful, just like you." He handed me the flower, his eyes full of tenderness.

These warm times made me sink. I thought we could spend a lifetime together. However, reality is always cruel.

"Why, Marcus? Why choose to betray?" Bella appeared, and her voice trembled, while my tears couldn't stop flowing silently.

"Roberta, our marriage has no love at all. All this is for the interests of the tribe." Marcus seemed to return to his usual appearance. His voice was cold, without a trace of warmth.

Our relationship became even more painful after losing the child. Originally, we were not destined mates, so that child came with exceptional difficulty. Without the sufficient devotion of the parents, she died prematurely as a matter of course. Then, Zora appeared, and Marcus's attitude became cold and ruthless, while I fell into deep pain. I recalled those times when he was gentle to me, and my heart was full of contradictions and confusion.

I couldn't help opening my eyes and looking at his expressionless face hidden in the darkness through the moonlight.

"Marcus, have you ever loved me? Even a little bit?" I asked him in a low voice, my eyes full of longing.

He was silent for a moment, and then said gently, "Maybe once, but that's in the past."

"So, what exactly do you want?" I looked at him, my eyes full of pain and anger.

He didn't answer, just looked at me silently, and those eyes revealed an indescribable complex emotion.

"What I want will soon be achieved." Marcus still gave me an ambiguous answer.

"I don't understand."

"You don't need to understand." Marcus's tone became even colder, and his gaze returned to its usual coldness.

The two of us just stared at each other silently in the darkness. In my eyes, his appearance seemed to become clearer, but I also knew that the distance between us was becoming farther and farther.

"Marcus, tell me, what exactly happened between us?" I asked again, with a hint of pleading in my voice.

He stood up, walked to the window, and turned his back to me. After a long silence, he finally spoke.

"Roberta, some things, once started, can't be turned back." His voice carried a hint of determination.

I looked at his back, my heart full of powerlessness. I didn't understand what the irreversible thing he was talking about, nor did I know why our relationship had become so complicated.

"Marcus, please tell me the truth." I insisted, unwilling to give up.

He turned around, looked at me, and a flash of pain crossed his eyes.

"The truth?" He sneered, "The truth is that our relationship was a mistake from the beginning."

My heart ached, unable to believe my ears.

"A mistake?" I repeated his words, feeling dizzy.

"Yes, a mistake, a complete and emotionless mistake." Marcus's voice had no emotion, "I combined with you just for my personal plan, not because of love."

I felt as if my heart was torn apart, and tears flowed involuntarily.

"But, we once had good times, didn't we?" I tried to remind him, hoping he would remember our feelings.

"Those are just the past." He replied coldly, "However, if you really want to know, I can tell you one thing."

I looked up at him, my heart full of doubts and unease. "What is it?" I asked, feeling an ominous premonition.

"I have found my true love."

Marcus's words were like a bolt from the blue, hitting my heart. I couldn't believe my ears. True love?

"Who is it?" I almost subconsciously asked this question.

"Zora." He replied indifferently, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

I felt my heart completely broken. Zora, the woman I had always suspected, turned out to be his true love.

"Marcus, why have you changed?"

However, the response I received was only silence. His indifferent expression was like a high wall, keeping me out. The pain in my heart followed me like a shadow.

In this dim room, I couldn't help shedding tears. Marcus noticed, and he carefully wiped away my tears with his thumb and lowered his head to gently kiss my forehead.

"Don't cry, Roberta, everything has just begun," His words were as gentle as before, almost making me forget those painful memories and scars. "You have never tasted even one-tenth of the pain you gave me."

I held my breath.
