YEAR 2015
“I’m sure you’ve heard of Izo, Juana. Gwapo ‘yon! Senior natin. Hindi mo ba type?” I laughed at the idea, interesting.“Well, he’s handsome. I’d give him that.” Napaka-in denial mo naman oh. Patili nitong kantyaw.“Sus. Huwag kang mag alala, Rowena! In the future, ako na ang titilian mo. ‘Di man ako kasing gwapo at kasing yaman ni Izo ngayon, sigurado akong magiging type mo rin ako.” Sabat ni Stephen na sinuklian ng irap ni Rowena.“Pero what’s the deal nga, Juana? Nung umattend tayo sa grand ceremony nila, you seem good friends with his family. He’s an only child, marami kang kaagaw but you have an advantage, you know.” Sabay kindat ni Rowena.“Fine. I liked him before, Rowi. We were basically playmates because Tita Micunda always visits our mansion before, she’s good friends with my Lolo. Hindi ko rin naman nagustuhan si Izo as a child, he did nothing but tease me dahil iyakin daw ako.” I rolled my eyes, I remember that one time…***“Shit, Izo! I want to pee.” I said, almost begging him to untie me. He teased me.Umirap ako sa kaniya. My eyes landed on my foot as I felt itchy down there. What’s that?A red ant.“An ant! Izo, there’s an ant on my foot! Hurry up, Izo! Remove it, fuck!” Kumunot ang noo niya at ngumisi. “Hold on, child. Kanina pa kita napapansing nag-mumura. Are your parents aware of their child’s unpleasant habit?” Alisin mo ‘yan, please! Hurry up, Izo! Hurry!” Namumulang tumawa si Izo sa itsura ko, I probably look so miserable right now and I can’t even give a single fuck! Oh my gosh. I closed my eyes. Shit… There, I cried. I cried out loud. “Mommy! Daddy!” I shouted, as I felt liquid dripping on my legs.I peed on my shorts!***I giggled as I narrated that story to Stephen and Rowena. “Kahit pala mayayaman, nakaka-ihi sa shorts nila.” Asar ni Tope. Tumawa naman kaming dalawa ni Rowi.“You’re harsh! Kaya hindi ka pinapatulan ni Rowena eh.” Huminto naman ang tawa niya at sumimangot.“Speaking of the devil, Juana. Look!” It’s their Physical Education. Hinanap agad ng mata ko ang tinuturo ni Rowena, of course, it’s him. Izo.Him in his white, body-fitting uniform and loose jogger pants. It defined his body, his toned biceps and undeniably seducing build.“Ana, laway mo… Papunta na kay Izo.” Asar ni Tope. Sabay naman nila akong tinawanan.Damn you, Izo. I’ll have you down on your knees.Strawberry scented perfume, my usual hair bow and liptint on. “Excuse me, Miss Escarzega. Anong sadya mo rito?” Puna ni Diane.Yes, I know her. She’s that typical senior na feeling crush ng freshmen dahil lang marami siyang mga alepores.“I’m here for Izo.” “Izo? Why? Are you close with him?” Taas kilay nitong tanong. I giggled softly, bahagya siyang kinalabit ng kasama niyang babae at may binulong.“Oh, kaya pala. Pag-taboy niya. Nu-uh, I won’t come back. I handed out a lunchbox to her with a sticky note attached.“No, thanks. Tell him it’s from me, or not… mukha namang alam na niya na ako ang nag bigay kahit hindi mo sabihin.” I said, all while smiling sweetly.Umalis ako roon at umattend sa mga susunod kong klase. Pag daan ko sa open field, kapansin-pansin ang bulungan and they seem to talk about me. Oh, I have a hunch. Take care, my lovely Izo! Xoxo!” Rinig kong sigaw mula sa malayo. There he is, him and his friends. Urgh, so disgusting. As much as I hate this, I have to put up with it.Patience, Juana! Patience! Kaunti pa.I mustered up my courage and ran towards him with all smiles. “Hey, Izo. How’s practice? I confidently said. He’s that cocky, huh? I’ll make sure to make you regret, darling. Don’t get carried away too much. We stopped under the shadow of one of the campus’ trees. “What’s the catch, baby?” What do you mean, Izo? I’m genuinely concerned.” He laughed at me as if he’s mocking my poor acting skills.“I know you, Helena. You’re not an Escarzega heir simply to be this desperate. We both know you have some plans in mind. Huwag kang mag-alala, I’m very considerate of children with uncontrollable wicked schemes.” He mockingly said. Then we’ll see how good of a babysitter you are, Mr. Izo. Test me, will you?” I challenged him. He gave me a mocking look, as if he’s accepting my threat.“My pleasure, love.” Then he handed me my pink lunchbox. All cleaned.“Nice taste, by the way.” He chuckled then left me there standing. What the hell?“Sa kaliwa, Teresa!” Sigaw ng mga tao. “Hindi, atras pa!” Sigaw naman ng isa. They were competing for the hampas palayok. Today marks the fiesta of Borongan, in honour of Nuesta Señora dela Natividad. Since my grandparents grew up here, Hacienda Rel Juana became a huge part of my childhood. I smiled at the thought of my Lola’s face enjoying these kinds of events before. She has always been consistent in attending these events, talagang minahal niya ang lugar na ito. “Nan
YEAR 2015"May laro raw ang 3rd year, Rowena! Manood tayo!" I begged her. We aren't allowed here, for sure! Pero ang sabi naman ay kung inimbita ka ng senior, you may enter and watch the game. This is their final practice para sa gaganaping liga sa susunod na linggo, Izo is one of this school's athlete. He's a consistent MVP of our school's team. No wonder his body's built like that. I've always admired his physique, at halatang-halata iyon ngayon lalo na't kita ang mga braso niya sa suot niyang jersey. I saw the number at the back of his shirt, it's 22. I blushed. That’s my birthday, sinakto niya kaya iyon? "Hoy! Sigu
I can already see where this is going. His daily sermon of reminding me how I messed up my life. His last remarks triggered me.“Utang na loob, Pa! Do you hear yourself? Alam ko ang nagawa ko! Alam ko ang pagkakamali ko and I regret it every single time.” I shouted, making him stop.“Sa totoo lang, Pa… She could've seen this world despite how cruel it is to live here. Don’t blame me for the mistakes I made, because I had the chance to make it right… Yet you took it away from me.” Naghahabu
"Ano ba kayo? Of course you're all invitedㅡ" "If that's the case, then sorry, but I decline your offer. Damn, if I were to play the good girl in this school, she'd definitely be the bully. All she does is act like an antagonist in my everyday life. Kahit pa kating-kati na akong murahin siya, I kept a composed smile on my face."Sure, Mila. You may go to Izo's party, I don't mind." If I know, she's a creep being head over heels to the heir of
The trip took a toll on me. I entered the main door, it was made of mahogany. The design is very vintage, halatang-halata ang pagiging luma nito pero matibay pa rin. Before my grandmother died, this is where I used to live. This is the place filled with most of my memories growing up. The place I loved and hated the most. Everytime I have the chance, I make sure that this place is taken care of. I hired people to clean this place every month, but I didn't dare to renovate it. I fixed some parts but I tried my best not to change anything at all. Gusto kong manatili itong ganito, kahit na kada pasilyo ng bahay ay puno ng ala-alang minsan ayaw ko nang dumaan sa isip ko.The frames of the windo
“Here’s your order, ma’am.” The waiter said, breaking our awkward silence.I smiled and nodded calmly. “Thank you, please run my card.” “Hey, don’t mind. It’s on me, minsan na lang ako maka-bawi, oh!” Napatawa ako sa sinabi niya, I remember the old times. “I’m not the Tope I was! This is Stephen Midane 2.0,” he jokingly said. Oo nga naman, now that he mentioned it, I noticed the difference in him, sobrang laki ng pinag-bago niya. He’s wearing a black tuxedo and a navy blue tie, very formal. Malayong-malayo sa Stephen noon. Dugyot, hindi mapakali at sobrang ingay. “I’m glad we could talk to each other again like this. How’s Rowena?” His smile slowly faded as I mentioned Rowena’s name. “We actually… broke up, a year after you left.” I was stunned, I wasn’t expecting that. “But.. she’s doing good. No need
