Chapter 5

Yoel grabbed Elaine, trying to calm her down. "Don't worry. This is our place; nobody can hurt you here."

"This has to be Julianna's prank!" he snapped, stomping his foot in frustration.

"Julianna, show yourself!" he yelled into the darkness. "Quit the poltergeist act! Do you want me to lock the garden doors and leave you to starve?"

I sneered, unheard, and thought, ‘Too late, Yoel. You already killed me, you monster.’

Yoel's foot landed on the fresh mound of dirt where my body was buried. He seemed oblivious, so I kept hurling small stones at his feet. Finally, he noticed the disturbed earth.

"Hey, you! Come here and dig this up," he barked at the servants. "Let's see what Julianna's hiding. Maybe she buried evidence of an affair!"

Elaine's face went pale. She rushed to stop him. "Yoel, don't! Leave this place alone."

He frowned. "Why?"
