Chapter 6

Joshua slapped me with all his might. I fell onto the floor, and my ears rang.

His anger ballooned. He tried to slap me again as though I deserved worse punishment, but someone held him back.

It was Lucas. He pleaded, "Enough, Joshua. Harper is a patient."

Joshua was incensed. "Did you seriously believe in her lies? Or have you fallen for her?"

Lucas' tone became stern. "Joshua, do you not have an ounce of empathy? Can't you tell she's not faking it? Even if you can't tell from her behavior, you could have checked her medical history!

"Because of your words, everyone at the hospital brushed her off. Now, she is suffering from a serious case of pancreatic adhesion. We have no choice but to schedule a surgery. She had a hemorrhage during the surgery, and it took the surgeon a lot of effort to save her life."

Lucas seemed to be truly angered. He couldn't believe Joshua's flippant attitude toward a patient's life, and he deeply regretted his actions last night.
