That was followed by the second and third mouthfuls of blood. My dark red blood stained the floor and my shirt. It reeked of alcohol.

Lucas finally stopped smiling. He looked horrified. As a doctor in the emergency department, he quickly lifted me in his arms and swiftly sent me into the ER.

On our way, he grabbed a nurse and barked, "Take her blood and test for amylase. Call the ultrasound department."

The nurse was stunned by the large swath of blood on my shirt. "W-What's going on? Dr. Kane said she was faking it. Is that true?"

Lucas grew worried. "This is not the time to ask that question. Just do what I told you to."

I felt better after coughing up the blood. The pain in my stomach subsided a little.

Many onlookers crowded around the wide open doors of the ER. They saw me covered in blood, and that set off a fervent discussion.

"Didn't that doctor say she was faking it for attention? Why was she covered in blood, then?"
