"So how long was it until you finally heard from her?" I ask him with a yawn.I have been so wrapped up in this story that I had no idea how late it is getting to be. It is almost dinner time and I am still sitting here listening. I can feel my exhaustion creeping up on me but I do not want him to stop. I want to hear the rest of the story before I fall asleep again."Not as long as I thought it might be but longer than I had hoped. I think I will finish this story some other time. You look exhausted and I have to go and check on the children. I have been gone much longer than usual today." Frank tells me.Nodding sadly, he walks over to me and kisses the top of my head like he used to when I was little. It is a little shocking since he has not done that in so long. Does he even remember that he used to do that regularly? Looking up at him, I have so many more questions but he is right about how tired I am. They can wait for another day if they need to."Thank you for telling me more
Once again, I manage to dream of my parents for the entire night. I get the amazing opportunity to see Frank seeing my mother transform for the first time as well as finally getting to remember what my mother looked like as a wolf. As soon as I saw her wolf form, I felt as if I had remembered it all along. Like all I had to do was unlock the part of myself that I shut down as a child and I would get to see her again. She really was just as beautiful as my father said she was. Her wolf form was massive compared to those around her. In the dark, her feet seemed to sparkle as if the stars themselves shown on her paws. The rest of her white fur really did remind me of snow. It had that same glittery reflectiveness that snow has. She positively shown when she turned into a wolf. When I woke up, it was with a smile on my face. Getting to see my mother in her wolf form after all of these years was quite a blessing. Now that I remember what she looks like, I can also remember more clearly r
Rand and Amora are sitting next to each other at the table today. Eric, Frank and Elle are all at the table with us as well. We have to decide when we are going to move if we want it done in a decent time frame. "I know that you want us to hurry and make a decision but I do not want to be hasty. I would like to make sure that we know what we are doing. This is going to affect us for the rest of our lives." Rand says."Yes it is. You already know that this is what you want to do so why are you dragging your feet now? The longer you stay here the more danger you are in. I cannot stay here with you forever. We have a pack of our own to get back to. Heck, we have a pup on the way that we have to prepare for." Dante says to him."I thought that nobody was in danger now?" Rand says with his brow raised in my direction."You know as well as I do that I cannot guarantee something like that if I leave. I can try to check in constantly but there is no way for me to make any guarantees if I am
In the end, since we do not have to worry about bringing food, Rand has decided that he only needs a couple of days to get everything around instead of the 4 that he was going to take. Thursday morning is now the time that we are planning to leave. Dante has instructed our pack that they will need to increase patrols and send them out further until we get closer. He also has some members, along with some of my witches, going towards the land that the Luminescence Creek pack is moving to, to do some scoping. He gave them specific instructions to make sure that there is nobody there that could pose a threat. They are also to make sure that they find the best areas for defense in case anybody does try something once they move there. The witches are going to set up temporary shelters for when we first arrive and we can do the rest shortly after.Overall, once everything is packed I think the main part of the planning is done. WE have the food, supplies and the people. Everything else is g
I ended up taking a nap for a couple of hours before going to help Frank with the kids. They do not understand what is g oing on so they are not really able to help get any of their stuff around. To be honest, they would not be much help even if they did understand. Chelsea is the closest to being helpful. She is trying at least. Any time that Frank grabs something to pack it up she tries to take it from him and beat him there. As helpful as she is trying to be it is only making it more difficult for Frank to get things around. The children are not able to carry anything so they will not be bringing much in the way of personal items. "Chelsea, I have an idea of how you can help me." I say getting down to her level."Really! What do you want me to do?" She asks excitedly."I am going to help Uncle Frank with getting things ready to go. If I tell you to grab something I want you to bring it to me and I will get it put up. Got it?" I ask her with as much enthusiasm as I can muster. She
"Laina, am I going to meet more kids when we get there?" Chelsea asks me during dinner. "Well, I am sure that there are plenty of kids there for you to get to know. I have training classes just for kids your age. When you become a teenager you will also take some survival classes. If you still want to train with us that is." I tell her with a smile. The entire pack including my group are all eating above ground for the first time since I got here. It took a bit of convincing but eventually I was able to get Rand to agree to allow us to eat up here with the others that are unable to go underground again. Might as well get the children used to it as well since we have been able to get everything packed up early and we are now leaving first thing in the morning. Now that Rand and Eric have finally fully jumped on board they are ready to go. "What if they do not like me?" She asks shyly. I cannot help but laugh at that. It is so hard to imagine somebody not liking this child. She real
That night, we sent all of the kids to bed a little early while all of the adults had a bit of a sad farewell party in their underground bunker. Even though I expected them to be more excited about getting out of here early, I do understand why they are sad. This is a place that has kept them safe for the last couple of years. It is the place that kept their pack alive when they were unable to do it in their normal home. Frank has decided to stay with the orphans for the night instead of having the party with the others. As the night wore on he became more and more withdrawn. The more quiet he got the more worried I got about him. He was finally starting to open up to me but tonight he just got farther and farther away."Do you think that I should go and check on him?" I ask Elle."It is hard to say. I do not know him anymore. This is not the same guy that left to save you. This is somebody completely new. I still have not been able to have a conversation with him." She says sadly."
Taking a deep breath, we walk into the orphanage together. Frank is inside sitting with the children, reading them a story. He glances up briefly but goes right back to reading to the children. He is reading a story about a lost girl that finally found a home. As he finishes the story, he finally makes eye contact with me, his eyes a little misty."Alright everyone, it is time for bed. Let's get to sleep so that we can get an early start in the morning." He says to the children. They all get up sleepily and begin heading to their rooms. There are only the two rooms, one for boys and one for girls. It does not take them long to make it to their rooms but I do have a feeling that it will take the quite a while to be able to settle down before falling asleep, with tomorrow being so exciting for them and all. "What are you both doing here? Shouldn't you be out there with the others?" He asks us without making eye contact."We were. We were missing somebody important though so we thought
