When the children all begin waking up, they file directly into the kitchen. Without instruction they all line up at the sink to begin washing their hands. They do it quickly and quietly. I cannot help but be impressed by how well they are all behaved given that there are so many of them stuck here together.

"Which ones had mothers that were taken?" I whisper to Frank.

"Just the two over there. The rest of them have lost their parents to the witches in irreversible ways. They are not coming back." He tells me sadly.

"What is going to happen to all of them when you move back above ground? Will they find homes with other families?" I ask him.

"I will most likely stay with all of them in a home similar to this one. These are the children that do not have any relatives left to claim them. The ones that nobody will be able to take care of for the forseeable future. It is not fair to them to have to take care of themselves or others so I will take care of them.
