Selena's POv

I had a really rough day at work today. I don't understand why those mean comments about me and Rufus affected me so much.

If we were mates, I could blame it on the mate bond, but we're not. So why was I feeling so angry inside? Why were those comments getting to me?

I let out a sigh as I entered my room and checked my phone again. The picture was still causing a stir and the ugly comments were multiplying. I started to feel more and more worried, anxious, or maybe just annoyed.

I waited all night, but Rufus never came back.

The night grew quiet and dark.

I sat in front of my laptop, unable to concentrate. When I heard a car engine outside, I snapped out of my thoughts and rushed downstairs. I couldn't wait to see Rufus.

As I reached the stairs, I came face to face with Rufus. We locked eyes for a moment, but neither of us said anything.

Even though I had seen him earlier that morning, it felt like an eternity had passed. My heart felt heavy with a bitter feeling.
