Emily's POV
I left the rabbit, Grey in Fayne's backyard maybe he would take care of him. At least he'd have something that reminded him of me. In my room, I opened the wardrobe and pulled out some of the clothes. I folded them neatly and put them in the bag. Once I was done, I flung the bag across of my shoulder and walked out. I would miss this place but it didn't matter. Not to me, not to Fayne.
I entered the woods and took the path to the town.
When I entered the town, I noticed how scanty the town was which made me wonder.
There was nothing different about it but the people weren't filled with as much brightness and beauty anymore.
I walked to a nearby stall in which an elderly woman was making noodles. I walked to her, filled with much curiosity.
“Hello ma'am,” I said to her but I was left with no response.
“Do not be offended but I have something to ask you.”
“No noodles, no asking.” She responded.
I had no money in my hands so I couldn't buy her noodles.
I sighed and proceeded to turn away but then something clicked in my mind.
I turned back to the elderly woman.
“I might not have any money right now but I can offer you anything much more priceless than money.”
The woman looked at me and then bursted into tears.
“Can you come with me to my house then? My son is sick and I have to make money to treat him.”
I hesitated, “Well… I can help you. I know a few things about medicine.”
When I was younger, I used to use some natural herbs to cure my injuries after I sustained an injury from playing too much. However, I was unsure if that would work for a mere human. As a werewolf, we had the abilities to heal faster than the average human.
“Would you please come into my house, miss?”
“Call me Emily,” I said and she nodded.
“Wait a second for me,” she said.
She fixed the food in the stall and I followed her to her home. Within the walls of the home, I heard the sounds of someone groaning in pain.
“Please come with me,” The woman told me and I followed her into the house and when we entered a small you, I saw a boy which looked at though he was at least, fifteen.
His right leg was swollen up and he looked like he was in immense pain.
My chest tightened and I walked over to the boy.
“So tell me young lady, can you do something about this?”
“I know about some herbs that can be useful.” I said and she nodded at me.
“Please do as much as you can to save my son.”
I walked out of the house and began to gather aloe Vera and some other plants which I thought could be useful.
On my way back to the elderly woman's house, I spotted some werewolves who were beating some humans mercilessly.
“What is that all about? Isn't this a human kingdom? Why are werewolves here?” I thought to myself.
I couldn't continue thinking so I went back to the elderly woman's house. As soon as she saw me, she looked at me desperately.
“Thank goodness you're back. For a minute I thought you were no longer going to save my son.” She said.
“I'm not like that, ma'am. Anyway, can I use your stove? I have to prepare the concoction.” I said.
“O-of Course,” she told me.
I went to the kitchen and began to purify the herbs I gathered. Once they were in perfect shape, I went to the boy's room and helped him drink the medicine. Then I cleaned his swollen leg and wrapped it. The boy cried for some moment, and eventually, dozed off.
“Thank you so much, miss.” The elderly woman told me and I nodded.
“It's okay, I only used some herbs I'm familiar with but this is not the end of his medication. You should still call an healer just to be sure.”
“Miss, why don't you drop the ingredients that you used to treat my son, that way I can save some money and at the same time, make sure my son is fully recovered.”
“Alright,” I said. “Grab me a pen and ink.”
“Right away,” the elderly woman said and rushed off further into the room.
I couldn't help but think about Fayne. I wondered what he was doing now.
When the elderly woman came back into the room with the piece of paper and ink, I was snapped back into reality.
I took the piece of paper and ink and began to write the ingredients I used as well as the methods used. Once I was done, i looked at the elderly woman.
“I've done as I can, i should get going now.” I said.
“Wait,” the elderly woman said. “I have something for you.”
“That's not needed, I—”
“—Give me just a second.” she said, and smiled at me. I was stunned but I decided to wait and hear her out.
The elderly woman went to the other side of the hallway and I waited patiently, tapping my feet against the floor.
When the woman came back, she handed me a crystal necklace.
“W-what is this for?” I asked her and she smiled at me widely.
“It's a protection charm. It's been passed down by my maternal part of the family for decades. This time, I decide to give it to you.”
“But why? You don't know me, I'm but a stranger to you.”
“But you didn't act like a stranger to me, you took care of my son and this kind of effort isn't something to be expected from a stranger. And besides, I sensed something about you. You're not just a human, am I right?”
I felt exposed by the woman. How did she know?
Emily's POV The elderly woman placed her hand on top of mine.“Don't worry, I'll keep your secret.”I pushed the elderly woman's hand away. “You have no secret to keep because I'm a human.”“No matter what you say, you cannot disconnect yourself from what you truly are.”The elderly woman fixed the necklace around my neck and then slightly pulled away from me.“Be safe,”I turned around the house to leave, then I clutched the crystal of the necklace, tucking it into my shirt. As soon as I went outside, I saw that in front of me was a group of werewolves mounted on horses. Many humans were cuffed in chains and dragged around which made me worry. Just what was going on?“Get the girl,” their presumed leader was on the white horse wearing his dark long hair in braids. Emily's POV I shivered, my eyes gleaming with tears as I watched him and the others being led by the werewolves. I wanted to go to him right away, but I was bound.Fayne's eyes met mine and my lips parted. Fayne slightly shook his head as though pleading with me not to acknowledge him.“Boss, they're here. We captured the queen too.”Jones stepped out with a knife in his hand. He tossed it in front of the queen.“Queen of the human empire, how lovely to see you in this state… Not!” Jones mocked. The queen clenched her fists. “You monsters! You killed the ruler of the human village. Do you think no one will ever put a stop to your schemes?!” She yelled causing Jones to laugh loudly.“Queen of the human empire, What do you choose?”“I'd rather die.”Jones nodded, “Then do it!”The queen snatched the knife from the ground and brought it to her neck.“As long as the king is dead, I'm not willing to live anymore.”Fayne shook his head, “No, my queen.”Before Fayne could drop her, the que
Emily's POVStanding by the window pane in my blue dress, I took out my right hand and snaked my fingers through the rays of moonlight that beamed into the room. For a moment there, my fingers stiffened. My nails got darker and elongated till my claws were fully jutted out.It wasn't a full moon that night, but I hadn't gained total control over my wolf-self.Fancied, — as though I hadn't seen my claws a million times — I swung my hand and cleaved at the window, leaving four slash marks on the glass. I had to hold back, so I wouldn't have to start clearing up broken shards of glass, again. Then I heard a voice, a familiar voice…“Ugh… Seriously, Emily, you have to stop doing that.”I retracted my claws and turned my gaze away from the window. Standing at the other side of the bed, with a hand on her tapered waist, was my best friend, Lyla Dune, a beta like me. She was much stronger though.“You know we just got that window, right? If you break this one, we'll miss the party,” she adde
Emily's POVA dream was what I thought it was. Scratch that. A nightmare would have been more suitable. But it was neither of them. It was real. Real!I could tell it was real because of the pain I felt when Lyla slapped me on the cheek. It pushed my head sideways and I hit my temple against the door’s glass. It hurt. My head spun. The next thing I could remember was seeing her crawl towards the back and open the door. But I still had my weight resting on it, so I fell immediately when it opened.I struck my body against the concrete floor of the car park. I could have sworn to hear a few bone cracks. Then the jeep roared to life and drove out of the car park, feeding me with dust and smoke from its exhaust pipe.I was left battered and bruised, both physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It was probably still a couple of minutes to six that morning because the sun was barely out. The surroundings were still dark and bleak.I heaved a relieved sigh that it was still early. It w
Emily's POVI woke up to find myself alone in the woods, on the night of a full moon.“Ugh…” I rubbed my glabella as my head throbbed in pain. It was as though my brain had switched places with my heart. My skull felt heavy. It was as I tried to lessen the pain that my nose twitched at the smell of a nice, savory scent. Still rubbing my glabella with two fingers, I dropped my head to see a small lunch box at my feet. It had a note stuck on it.I leaned forward as I reached for the lunch box with my free hand. I peeled off the note and brought it under my weary gaze.Even without looking at the footnote, I could instantly tell that it was from Tyler. His handwriting was unique.Reading the note in his voice, it said:“I'm sorry you had to find out like this. I had no choice. I thought you were dead.“I had to take you out of the house after you collapsed and passed out. My dad was visiting. There's food in the flask. Please eat that to replenish your strength.“And don't try to come ov
Emily's POVMy life in the palace wasn't as quiet as I'd expected, ever since I started cleaning in the palace, I had the king's eye on me ever since I started my job. At first, it started out as a curious glance and I shook it off as he was just being cautious around her due to me being new. But after a while, he assigned me to clean his own room and since then his quiet stares had incessantly increased and I felt more uncomfortable around him. I didn't make any friends in the palace and definitely didn't want to become buddies with the king. I tried to avoid him as much as possible but he was actually very persistent and frankly, there was nothing I could do to avoid a king.Soon enough, he started to talk to me with lust in his eyes. I knew that look when I saw it and I was tired of such looks, I really didn't want to be mated to anyone or even want to talk to any man. I wanted to be on my own terms for now. It was already hard enough to live with the hollow in my heart, I don't
Emily's POVI spent three weeks in the room before I decided to give the king my answer. During those three weeks, I had his undivided attention all through as he seemed to have abandoned all kingly duties. He made me his main topic and we did everything together. We dined together, talked together and I even started to confide in him a few details of my past.Whilst all this happened, I was thinking critically to myself about the choice I was going to make, it felt as if I really had no choice but to say yes. Before I did, I wanted to make sure the man I was involved with was as kind as he proposed to be. I mean a man who was four hundred years old, why would he fall in love with me? So I spent a few weeks watching his mannerisms and the hidden glances behind his gestures but I found nothing amiss. Maybe he was real I thought, maybe there was a chance that he really loved me but I knew deep down within the hollow in my soul that something was amiss. I sat down at my mirror on the f
Emily's POVA sigh escaped from my lips which made Aiden stare at me with a look I didn't quite understand.“Why do you hesitate?” He asked me.“Many reasons.” I responded. “Care to tell me?” “Well, I thought this would be my final resting place. A place I can live in until I die.”“Well, you will die if you get involved with my brother so snap out of your feelings and do the right thing.” He said sharply.“And the right thing to do is for me to leave this place.”“Ditto.” Aiden said after me which made me nod and exhale.“So… how do I escape? Your brother could kill me when he finds out.” I said and Aiden nodded.“Just leave this to me, I'll find a way for you. In the meantime, act normal around others. But make sure your things are packed just in case. And don't take too much stuff with you.”“Okay,” I said and he nodded.“Wait, what about the gate pass? I don't have it,”“You can steal it from my brother somehow.”“Leaving the risky business to me, why would I risk my life to get

Emily's POVMy eyes widened as he spoke. “Emily, you should leave.”I looked at Fayne's face, understanding what he was saying. It didn't matter what I wanted. He was telling me to leave and it was up to me to respect myself and leave.“Fine, I'll leave. But before I leave, give me three days.”“And what will the three days be for?” He asked me.“You'll teach me how to survive alone with multiple skills that you have such as shooting and setting traps for animals.”“Mind you, it's not all skills that require physical strength. Some have to deal with de-escalating conflicts and so on.”“I'm willing to learn as much as possible from you before leaving.” I said.Fayne looked at me for the longest time possible and then nodded.“Today will be the first day then.”“But it's getting late.”“It's better than starting later.”I couldn't help but think that Fayne was keeping something from me. He was acting pretty normal untill Liam came with some letters for him to read. I wondered what that
Emily's POV Fayne's look was aggravated and angry which made me stare at him with raised brows. I'd never seen him this unsettled. It made me wonder if there was more underneath the surface.“The king wants you to give him an explanation.” Liam said to Fayne. But then Fayne's wandering eyes caught mine.I cleared my throat nervously and walked over.“Here are the stuffs you requested.”I placed the pieces of papers and ink on the desk.Liam stood on his feet and bowed to Fayne. “Sir, I'll get going now.”Fayne said nothing and watched Liam leave.I looked at Fayne and hesitated. Should I really be saying something to Liam right now?“Are you okay?” I ended up asking, then I realized that he must see that as a stupid question. He was obviously not doing well. I was about to change the direction of the conversation but Fayne looked at me with a gentle smile.“I’m fine.”I was taken aback by Fayne's smile.“What's wrong with you?” I looked at him hesitantly. I'd rarely seen him smile.
Emily's POV “Well, why are you suddenly curious about me?” Fayne asked.“I do know that there's something about you that should be known other than the fact that you're the King's hunter.”Fayne ran his fingers through his hair.“Why would you want to know anything about me other than the fact that I rescued you. It's not like you're going to live here forever.”I swallowed. He had a point. I'd never thought that far ahead. I had nowhere to go so I had subconsciously taken this place as a home in my heart.“You’re right, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to live here but I just want to know more about my saviour.”“The only thing you need to know about me is that I'm Fayne and will forever be no matter what happens to me.”“You are Fayne,”I placed my hand on his cheek while staring into his eyes. After a long second, Fayne removed my hand from his face.“Fine,” he said. “I'll tell you.”“My parents were killed by wolves. Then I was rescued by a group of wolf hunters who taught me
Emily's POV “So you don't think humans kill each other under false pretense all the time?”“Humans are not perfect and they go against each other a lot of time. That doesn't mean that this time, a berserker isn't responsible for their deaths.”“Do you believe in this so much, Fayne?”He nodded, “I do.”I clenched my fists. No matter what I said, he wouldn't believe me. Which meant that I should keep my being a berserker away from him as it was unlikely for him to support me if I told him that.I kept my head bowed. “I'm going to bed, Fayne.”Fayne looked at me with parted lips, then he nodded. I went to my room and laid on the bed while sobbing myself to sleep. I was healing… I remembered everything that I had gone through and it made me feel overwhelmed and emotional.I wiped my tears but I couldn't forget any of what I had to go through. Maybe that was why I was here. To heal from the pains of the past.My parents… if only they cared about me as much as I was inclined to care abou
Emily's POV “You can keep him in the backyard of my house,” he said and I jumped up happily. When I noticed what I was doing, I stopped jumping and caressed the cute rabbit in my arms.“You hear what Fayne said? I can keep you in the backyard. We'll be together.”I heard a sound in front of us causing me to avert my gaze from the rabbit to In front of us where an antelope was walking while sniffing the grass for a bite to eat.Fayne pulled forth his bow and arrow and shot the antelope's side. The antelope immediately started to limp away but Fayne shot its leg and it started bleeding out, then it lost its consciousness.“That's it, we have meet for the day.” I said.Fayne went to grab the antelope. He pulled out the arrows from its side and leg before swinging the antelope over his shoulder.“Let's go.” He told me and we headed home. When we went back, Fayne went to the kitchen to butcher the antelope while I sat there on the kitchen stool swaying left and right.I stared at the rabb
Emily's POV How long would I have to live here while wondering about the white-haired man? He was a man of a few words alright, but that didn't matter. He should be willing to talk to me more since he rescued me. Why wasn't he taking responsibility for his actions? I scoffed. Then I realized something. I could as well be the one to initiate the conversation between the two of us.And one day, I went to the kitchen and made a meal for the both of us. The white-haired man was sitting outside as usual under the bamboo roof. I walked to him with the pot containing pork soup and placed it on the table. He looked at me as though asking ‘What are you doing?’I gave him a simple smile.“I saw some meat in the kitchen and decided to make us something with it.”“Really?” He said, which made me frown.“You don't like it?”“You… don't have to.” He responded.“I want to. To repay you for your kindness. By the way, what's your name? I don't know your name.”The white-haired man grabbed a spoon and
