Chapter 1

Chapter One

As the rumors about Levi's birthday party spread like wildfire, I found myself rolling my eyes at the absurdity of it all. Everyone seemed to be talking about it, claiming that it would be the biggest event of the senior class. But to be honest, I couldn't care less. I knew better than to believe the ridiculous rumors that were being circulated.

During second period Science, I overheard Leila Donovan telling her friends that Levi was going to ask her to be his girlfriend as soon as he turned 18. I couldn't help but scoff at her naivety. Hadn't she seen Ashley hanging off his arm that morning? Sure, Levi had a reputation for changing girls like he changed shirts, but it was still ridiculous for Leila to believe that he would settle down with her.

By third period History, Felix was spreading the rumor that Levi was having the party so that he would have an alibi for a robbery he was planning. I couldn't believe how far-fetched these rumors were getting. Surely no one actually believed that?

During fourth period Math, Steven claimed that Levi was only having the party so that he could break a record for getting the most women in his bed in one night. As absurd as it sounded, I had to admit that this one was more believable than the others.

I was relieved when the lunch bell finally rang, giving me a break from the constant stream of rumors. Why was it so hard for people to believe that Levi was just having a regular eighteenth birthday party? I was sure that it would be like any other party - a bunch of drunk girls throwing themselves at the popular guys.

As I make my way through the sea of teenagers towards the crowded cafeteria, the overpowering noise and smell assault my senses. It's a bad combination, too many bodies in one space already heated by the food. I can't be the only one who feels this way, can I? Seeking solace, I head straight to the soda machine and hastily extract a dollar from my pocket to purchase a Coke when suddenly, I feel a familiar arm draped around me.

"Hey, favorite sister in the whole wide world," Paul grins at me, but I only return his smile with a stern glare. I can tell that he finds my annoyance amusing, with the twinkle in his similarly colored eyes, though his are slightly darker than mine. He wears his varsity jacket open, revealing a white t-shirt that's one size too small, accentuating his chest muscles.

Knowing him all too well, I demand, "What do you want Paul?" We hardly ever speak to each other at school. Sometimes, he might give me a slight head tilt to say "what's up," but that's about it. Paul hovers on the cusp of popularity and being a thriver, whereas I am a definitive nobody.

"I forgot my wallet. Can I please borrow some dollars for lunch?" He gives me the puppy dog look, pleading, "Pretty, pretty please, my favorite little sister?"

"I'm your only sister, and I'm only two minutes younger than you," I retort, gazing up at him to see the same puppy dog face still on display. With a sigh, I rummage through my backpack until I locate a loose five-dollar bill and hand it over to him. He takes it with a wink, muttering his thanks before scurrying off.

As I leave the cafeteria, I navigate around the backpacks scattered haphazardly on the table and try not to make eye contact with any of the groups chatting excitedly about Levi's party. I never eat in the cafeteria, preferring to spend my lunch hour outside among the trees that line the school. The shade they provide on warmer days and protection from the wind on cooler ones is just perfect.

I love reading outside during my lunch break. It's a chance to get lost in the worlds created by my favorite authors. I become so absorbed in the stories that I'm hardly aware of my surroundings, at least for a little while.

Suddenly, I'm jolted out of the world James Philip created as I hear two voices nearby. I look up to see Jason and Charles following Levi, who looks visibly upset. Scratch that, he looks absolutely furious. His hands are shaking as he sprints towards the trees. I can't hear what they're saying, but the moment Levi takes off, Jason and Charles follow closely behind.

I watch as they disappear into the trees, roughly twenty feet from where I'm sitting. It's probably the weirdest thing I've seen all day. Why would they go into the trees? Maybe Levi is tired of all the rumors flying around about him. Then again, maybe he loves all the attention - it would definitely feed his ego.

As the bell rang, it abruptly interrupted my thoughts and signaled the end of my current period. I quickly gathered my belongings and made my way to my fifth-period class, where I knew I wouldn't have to deal with the drama of the popular crowd. To be honest, I never really understood the appeal of their antics anyway.

The rest of the day was thankfully uneventful, although I did hear some rumors about a party that Levi was hosting. I knew better than to get my hopes up that anything exciting would happen, so I didn't give it much thought.

As soon as I arrived in my room, I couldn't resist the urge to collapse onto my bed. I buried myself in my familiar purple blanket and allowed myself to rest for a while.

Before I knew it, my mom was calling me down for dinner. I had apparently fallen asleep, and I begrudgingly made my way to the kitchen, where the delicious smells of spaghetti and garlic bread greeted me. As my parents talked about their days and my brother Paul boasted about his soccer team's victory, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy.

When Paul announced that he would be spending Friday night at a friend's house, my parents didn't bat an eye. I couldn't believe it. If I were to suggest such a thing, I would have to endure endless questioning about who, what, where, when, and why.

It must be nice to be the perfect child, I thought bitterly to myself. I silently wished that Paul would suffer a terrible hangover on Saturday morning, and I even entertained the idea of taking a picture to prove it.

Chapter Two
As a typical Friday, the school was abuzz with excitement, and I found myself standing out as the only one not going to the party. However, it seemed like nobody cared, including myself. I couldn't help but notice that everyone else had checked out for the day, and if they had a choice, they would have ditched school altogether. Even my brother, Paul, had already secured a party invitation with one of Ashley's clones, not realizing that they could not think on their own without their shared brain cell residing in Ashley. It was hilarious to see how Paul thought with his little head, rather than using his brain. I wondered if I would be the same if I were a guy, but it was just a strange thought. As I was lost in my thoughts, a group of girls passed by giggling and talking about the party of the year, which I found unbearable. I had only one class left and couldn't take it anymore. I decided to do something I had never done before - ditch school. It seemed daunting at first, but I knew

Chapter Three
As I walked through the crowded hallway, I couldn't help but notice the strange atmosphere in the school. The excitement from Friday's party seemed to have dissipated and was replaced by anger and scowls on the faces of the popular kids. Even the usually happy and smiling populars were walking around looking like they were about to start a fight.I overheard some gossip about Alex, the football team captain, hooking up with Brinkley Aimes, the junior class president, which was a surprise to me. I never thought Brinkley would be the type to do that. But that was beside the point. Something had clearly happened at the party that was affecting everyone in the school.I spotted Paul at his locker, surrounded by his friends. He was at the party, maybe he knows what happened. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should approach him. But then I remembered how drunk he was on Saturday when he came home and how little he remembered about the party. Maybe he wouldn't be much help after all.

Chapter Four
As I walked towards my class, I picked up a scent that set my senses ablaze and I quickened my pace, eager to find its source. My wolf was practically bouncing with excitement. Upon entering the room, my eyes immediately fell upon the most stunning girl I had ever seen. Words failed me in describing her beauty. Her ash blonde hair was pulled up in a ponytail, cascading down the curve of her neck flawlessly. I couldn't wait to mark her with my own.As she sat in the back of the room, gazing out the window at the trees, my world stood still. When her hazel eyes met mine, my breath caught in my throat. How was I supposed to breathe around her?But she smiled a small, sweet smile, and it felt like my heart skipped a beat. My wolf urged me forward, and I found myself drawn towards her like a moth to a flame. I felt like never taking my eyes off her. She was perfect, and I knew she was meant to be mine.Jasmine ’s POVI noticed Levi looking at me. I found it strange because he never seemed

Chapter Five
As I lifted my gaze up, I tried not to focus too much on his jawline or his lips, which seemed perfect for kissing. He ran a hand through his hair, and I found myself holding my breath as I watched the muscles in his arm tense up. How did he make even the simplest movements look so amazing? I suddenly realized that he was talking to me, but I couldn't remember what he was saying."I don't know what happened back there in class, but I really would like to show you around and make you feel comfortable here," he said with a smile, revealing a small dimple on his right cheek. I was tempted to smile back, but I resisted the urge.As students pushed past us, I felt like we were alone in the hallway. It was both exciting and frightening at the same time. I feel like I can't let myself fall into his trap. I'm trying to avoid his gaze, scared of being ensnared once more. I examine his face, hoping to find a clue that this is just a prank. However, all I can detect is bewilderment, which refle

Chapter Six
I feel my heart skip a beat as I take in his presence. The conflict within me intensifies. Should I let him join me, risking getting entangled in his charm and the inevitable heartbreak that may follow? Or should I push him away, maintaining my self-preservation and protecting my emotions? Despite my inner turmoil, I manage to gather my thoughts and respond."No, it's not taken," I reply, my voice betraying a hint of nervousness. I scoot over slightly, creating enough space for him to sit beside me. As he settles down, I can't help but notice the tension in his body and the slight furrow in his brow.Levi breaks the silence, his voice laced with sincerity. "Jasmine, I want you to know that I'm not here to play games or seek a temporary thrill. I understand if you have reservations based on my past reputation, but I genuinely want to get to know you. You've intrigued me in ways no one else has, and I can't seem to shake this feeling whenever I'm around you."His words catch me off guar

Chapter Seven
I finished the last sip of my cold lemon tea, relishing the tangy sweetness as it refreshed my parched throat. Glancing at my watch, I realized it was time to head back for my remaining classes of the day. The midday sun cast a warm glow over the campus as I walked, my mind still lingering on the abrupt departure of Levi earlier.Entering the classroom for my last class, I took my seat near the window, my gaze instinctively drawn to the empty seat beside me that Levi usually occupied. It felt strangely hollow without him there, his usual warmth and charisma noticeably absent. I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss, that Levi was carrying a weight on his shoulders. As the professor started the lecture, I found it challenging to concentrate. My attention kept wandering, stealing glances towards the door, hoping to catch a glimpse of Levi. The minutes ticked by, each one stretching into an eternity as I yearned for any sign of his return. Soon enough, the professor's v

Chapter Ten
As I settled into my seat, my gaze wandered around the classroom, taking in the familiar faces of my classmates. The professor, Dr. Roberts, a stern yet respected figure, entered the room, his presence commanding attention."Good morning, class," Dr. Roberts greeted us with a no-nonsense tone. "Today, we have a crucial test on the material we've been covering this semester. I hope you've all prepared adequately."A murmur of nervous anticipation filled the room as students shuffled through their notes, trying to brush up on last-minute details. I could feel the weight of the test hanging in the air, making my heart race.As the test papers were distributed, Dr. Roberts reminded us of the rules and instructed us to begin. Taking a deep breath, I focused my attention on the questions in front of me, determined to recall everything I had studied. But as I glanced up momentarily, my eyes caught a glimpse of Levi and Jason, seated adjacently from me. They were both bent over their papers,
