Emily's POV

I shivered, my eyes gleaming with tears as I watched him and the others being led by the werewolves. I wanted to go to him right away, but I was bound.

Fayne's eyes met mine and my lips parted.

Fayne slightly shook his head as though pleading with me not to acknowledge him.

“Boss, they're here. We captured the queen too.”

Jones stepped out with a knife in his hand. He tossed it in front of the queen.

“Queen of the human empire, how lovely to see you in this state… Not!” Jones mocked.

The queen clenched her fists. “You monsters! You killed the ruler of the human village. Do you think no one will ever put a stop to your schemes?!” She yelled causing Jones to laugh loudly.

“Queen of the human empire, What do you choose?”

“I'd rather die.”

Jones nodded, “Then do it!”

The queen snatched the knife from the ground and brought it to her neck.

“As long as the king is dead, I'm not willing to live anymore.”

Fayne shook his head, “No, my queen.”

Before Fayne could drop her, the queen sliced the side of her neck and fell to the ground bleeding and unconscious.

Fear seeped through me. All the surrounding humans watched with fear and honour as they watched the queen sacrifice her life.

Jones however didn't seem much fearful by it. Instead he walked over to pick his knife and offered someone to dispose of the queen's body.

One of Jones men went to Jones and whispered something in his ear but I caught it. “There's the man that I was talking to you about, the human hunter.”

Jones smirked. “Bring him forward.”

Jones’ man walked over to Fayne and took him in front of Jones, then he forced him to kneel.

“You,”

Jones placed the knife on Fayne's shoulder.

“I heard of your bravery when a group of my men attacked the palace. It was very loyalist of you to fight alongside the king.”

Fayne kept his head down, something I had barely seen ever since I met him. Fayne was proud. I wondered how he felt kneeling in front of Jones. It was probably not a good feeling and it may be causing a certain type of rage in him.

“Huh? You're not saying anything?” Jones asked in a mocking tone. “Looks like you're not as brave as you seem. Get away from here.”

As Fayne was about to leave, Jones hit him in the face causing him to crash fall to the ground.

I gasped, covering my lips so I wouldn't be exposed. But it took me a lot of guts to not say anything. I couldn't bear to see Fayne in pain but I knew getting myself in trouble was not the key either so I sat there silently and watched Jones hit Fayne as though he was nothing.

By nightfall, I looked at Fayne whose eyes were closed. He looked at though he were dead.

This time of the night, everyone seemed asleep so I slightly crawled to where Fayne was. I helped him sit up but my hands were shaky. Once he was sat up, I placed a finger underneath his nose and behold, he was alive.

A painful smile crossed my cheek.

Fayne had probably being through a lot in a short period of time and it made me wonder if there was anything that I could do to help him.

Suddenly, Fayne's eyes opened. Out of happiness, I embraced him tightly and he stayed right there.

After a couple of moments, I pulled away from Fayne. There were a lof of words to be said but I just kept it to myself.

Fayne brought his right finger to his lips as though warning me to not say anything. And he was right, the werewolves had sharp hearing and could easily catch us talking. So I just sat with him there for a few minutes eventually I dozed off.

The next morning, when I woke up I was sitting with the rest of the slaves and Fayne was far across me. The moment my eyes made contact with his, I couldn't help the smile that flashed across my face. In this hell hole, only him was capable of making me smile.

We were fed bread as usual and I only got just a little to eat.

Jones ordered his men and the journey continued.

Many of the humans could not survive so they died and Jones and his men didn't blink an eye. To them, that was less mouth to feed.

I kept my eyes locked on Fayne out of worry. He had injuries on his body and he was weak, didn't get enough rest. I wondered if he would be able to make it.

Throughout the journey, it was only Fayne I was thinking of. Would he be alright?

Halfway through the journey, we passed through another human town and i saw that it was a literal bloodbath. Many had been killed and the resources of the humans, stolen. I wondered just what Jones and his cahoots would use the human resources for. The wolven kingdoms were filled with such wealth and values which the werewolves took as a prayer.

I sighed.

When we stopped at a place to rest, I was worried but then I felt something on my hand. I grabbed it tight and looked at it. It was bread. I looked at who had brought it to me and it was Fayne.

I mouthed the word ‘Thank you’ to him and he nodded. Then I ate the bread.

Despite our situation, Fayne was still looking out for me. It was difficult to find peace, but Fayne was my peace, the only one who could ever give me what I didn't know I needed.

Deep down in my heart, I prayed to the moon goddess to protect me and Fayne through any way possible. Our story couldn't end this way. No it couldn't. I had a lot of things that I wanted to do with Fayne.

My nails got darker and elongated till my claws were fully jutted out.It wasn't a full moon that night, but I hadn't gained total control over my wolf-self.Fancied, — as though I hadn't seen my claws a million times — I swung my hand and cleaved at the window, leaving four slash marks on the glass. I had to hold back, so I wouldn't have to start clearing up broken shards of glass, again. Then I heard a voice, a familiar voice…“Ugh… Seriously, Emily, you have to stop doing that.”I retracted my claws and turned my gaze away from the window. Standing at the other side of the bed, with a hand on her tapered waist, was my best friend, Lyla Dune, a beta like me. She was much stronger though.“You know we just got that window, right? If you break this one, we'll miss the party,” she adde

Emily's POVA dream was what I thought it was. Scratch that. A nightmare would have been more suitable. But it was neither of them. It was real. Real!I could tell it was real because of the pain I felt when Lyla slapped me on the cheek. It pushed my head sideways and I hit my temple against the door’s glass. It hurt. My head spun. The next thing I could remember was seeing her crawl towards the back and open the door. But I still had my weight resting on it, so I fell immediately when it opened.I struck my body against the concrete floor of the car park. I could have sworn to hear a few bone cracks. Then the jeep roared to life and drove out of the car park, feeding me with dust and smoke from its exhaust pipe.I was left battered and bruised, both physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It was probably still a couple of minutes to six that morning because the sun was barely out. The surroundings were still dark and bleak.I heaved a relieved sigh that it was still early. It w

Emily's POVI woke up to find myself alone in the woods, on the night of a full moon.“Ugh…” I rubbed my glabella as my head throbbed in pain. It was as though my brain had switched places with my heart. My skull felt heavy. It was as I tried to lessen the pain that my nose twitched at the smell of a nice, savory scent. Still rubbing my glabella with two fingers, I dropped my head to see a small lunch box at my feet. It had a note stuck on it.I leaned forward as I reached for the lunch box with my free hand. I peeled off the note and brought it under my weary gaze.Even without looking at the footnote, I could instantly tell that it was from Tyler. His handwriting was unique.Reading the note in his voice, it said:“I'm sorry you had to find out like this. I had no choice. I thought you were dead.“I had to take you out of the house after you collapsed and passed out. My dad was visiting. There's food in the flask. Please eat that to replenish your strength.“And don't try to come ov

Emily's POVMy life in the palace wasn't as quiet as I'd expected, ever since I started cleaning in the palace, I had the king's eye on me ever since I started my job. At first, it started out as a curious glance and I shook it off as he was just being cautious around her due to me being new. But after a while, he assigned me to clean his own room and since then his quiet stares had incessantly increased and I felt more uncomfortable around him. I didn't make any friends in the palace and definitely didn't want to become buddies with the king. I tried to avoid him as much as possible but he was actually very persistent and frankly, there was nothing I could do to avoid a king.Soon enough, he started to talk to me with lust in his eyes. I knew that look when I saw it and I was tired of such looks, I really didn't want to be mated to anyone or even want to talk to any man. I wanted to be on my own terms for now. It was already hard enough to live with the hollow in my heart, I don't

Emily's POVI spent three weeks in the room before I decided to give the king my answer. During those three weeks, I had his undivided attention all through as he seemed to have abandoned all kingly duties. He made me his main topic and we did everything together. We dined together, talked together and I even started to confide in him a few details of my past.Whilst all this happened, I was thinking critically to myself about the choice I was going to make, it felt as if I really had no choice but to say yes. Before I did, I wanted to make sure the man I was involved with was as kind as he proposed to be. I mean a man who was four hundred years old, why would he fall in love with me? So I spent a few weeks watching his mannerisms and the hidden glances behind his gestures but I found nothing amiss. Maybe he was real I thought, maybe there was a chance that he really loved me but I knew deep down within the hollow in my soul that something was amiss. I sat down at my mirror on the f

Your brother could kill me when he finds out.” I said and Aiden nodded.“Just leave this to me, I'll find a way for you. In the meantime, act normal around others. But make sure your things are packed just in case. And don't take too much stuff with you.”“Okay,” I said and he nodded.“Wait, what about the gate pass?
