CHAPTER 23

The crisp cool air of the morning crept under the blanket, sending cold tingles down my spine.

I tried to focus my eyes on the figure moving around in the shadows.

“Damn it,” Xavier cursed as he stomped his foot on the stool, I bit back a laugh, watching him go about his morning routine.

“You know, as a polite house guest, you should say sorry,” he muttered, his voice warm with humor.

I giggled, “how did you know I was awake?”

“Your breathing pattern had changed” he replied, searching through the cupboard.

“How early is it?” I asked, looking at the dark skies.

“Very early, but I need to be there early, one of the horses might go into labour today,” he replied thoughtfully.

I could see how dedicated he was to his job, the glint in his eyes when ever he talked about the horses.

I nodded, slowly rising from the bed, my feet hurting from the pressure.

“What are you doing?” he asked, watching me arrange the bed.

“Getting out of your lair?” I replied the obvious question.
