Daisy’s POV

The sound of crickets chirping echoed through the night air. My body was still drumming with tension, a lot has happened since Alec’s return.

“Bertha,” I whispered.

“What” she answered.

I rolled my eyes at her brashness, I was getting accustomed to her character.

“Bertha, I need to leave,”

“And where would you go? She asked.

“I don’t know, but anywhere but here,” I whispered.

It was late in the night, Bertha had decided to stay awake with me, her words; ‘I don’t need a dead room mate in the morning,’

“Do you have a plan?” She asked, suddenly interested.

“Not yet, but I’ll figure it out, I’m resourceful like that,” I mumbled.

“Let me know every step you plan to take,” she muttered.

“why haven’t you ever thought about leaving?” I asked.

Bertha sighed, “not everything is as it seems,” she muttered.

My brows furrowed at her words, Bertha was good with words and I was jealousy starting to discover that.

“Good night,” I whispered
