George’s eyes were dark and unreadable, giving away no emotions.

“What makes her better than you? Just because you bribed someone to find out about that little beauty mark in the corner of my favorite girl’s eye and got it tattooed doesn’t make you better.

“Luna would never stoop so low. She wouldn’t degrade herself just to win a man’s love. She’s not a substitute.”

That comment seemed to hit a nerve in Annie, and her voice turned frantic.

“What’s wrong with being a substitute? I do it because I love you! As the Atkins’ daughter, I came here to act in this play, hoping you’d forget your so-called first love and fall for me instead!”

George smiled, his eyes softening as he absentmindedly touched his lips.

“That’s impossible. Luna gave me her first kiss. How could I ever forget her?”

“George, you have to have some common sense! You can’t perform CPR during an asthma attack! It’ll make it worse! Luna was trying to kill you!”
