Annie eagerly pressed the power button on the phone. After a few seconds of the startup animation, the face unlock prompt appeared.

“Is everything inside still there?” she asked.

The store owner shook his head. “I haven’t touched anything, but I need you to unlock it first before I can check.”

Annie pouted, thinking for a moment before nodding. “Alright, I’ll find a way to unlock it and come back.”

As she stared at the lock screen picture of someone who looked almost exactly like her, a wild look filled her eyes.

“I need to find out everything that happened between you two, and then I’ll take your place.”

Why did love always change people so drastically? If that were the case, when would humanity evolve past the need for love?

With a sigh, I shook my head and turned to leave. Just then, I spotted George standing in the shadows, looking lost.

“No, you’re not Luna! You’re not Luna!” he screamed.

When Annie heard his voice, the surprise in her eyes quickly turned to panic before

All because I saved George Larson from an asthma attack when we were kids, I became his obsession. On the day of my parents’ funeral, I was kidnapped right from the service. When I woke up, I found myself in bed at the Larsons’ residence, with a marriage certificate lying on the nightstand.George stood by the bed, his eyes filled with affection as he said, “Luna, welcome home.”I did not want to marry George, for I did not love him. However, every time I tried to run away, George would show up out of nowhere and drag me back. No matter how hard I tried, I could not shake him. After seven years of being entangled in that toxic mess, George finally found someone else. Her name was Annie Atkins, and she had a beauty mark under her left eye, just like mine. Not only that, but her eyebrows, eyes, and figure were also eerily similar to mine. Even our fashion sense was almost identical.Annie’s social media was filled with pictures of her and George, looking every bit like the perfect c

"Keep her dizzy."A wave of nausea shot from the back of my head to my throat, and I dropped to the ground, retching. I tried to unlock George's phone, only to discover there was no passcode—just facial recognition.I let out a bitter laugh, thinking, ‘Is this it? George, are you really planning to imprison me for life? Do you want to push me to my death?’Lying helpless on the lawn, I laughed, hopeless. If that was how it was going to be, why not just electrocute me?In my hazy state, I heard the voices of girls approaching. The one leading them seemed to be carefully eyeing the layout of George’s estate, debating whether to enter and nearly stepping on me in the process."Annie, I heard nobody’s allowed inside this part of the Larsons’ estate. Maybe we shouldn’t go in," one of the girls said nervously."But it’s George’s birthday today. I’ve got to have a surprise for him, no matter what!" Annie froze for a moment, then suddenly burst into a hysterical scream.Oh, so her beauty mark was fake after all. It seemed like she knew she was just an impostor too.The two girls standing behind her seemed uneasy. “Annie, maybe you should ask who she is before doing anything. You don’t want to mess with the wrong family and get in trouble with your dad again.”Annie sneered. “George is throwing a birthday party at the company today. Anyone important is at the event hosted by the Larson Group. What kind of heiress would be sneaking around here, trying to break into my house?“Only a rat from the gutter would dream of pretending to be someone else and using dirty tricks to climb the social ladder. You want to be Mrs. Larson? Dream on.”Annie spoke each word slowly and deliberately, all while raising the heel of her shoe high in the air.The next moment, the sharp heel stabbed straight into my eye. A wave of excruciating pain shot through my head, followed by a rush of warm liqu

As the clothes George gave me were all exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces, in order to create a fake version of me, he had to send people to hunt down knock-offs.The pain was unbearable. Why was I not dead yet? Why was I not reunited with my parents? Suddenly, a voice broke through the haze, tinged with impatience.“What are you doing here?” George sounded irritated.Annie let out an instinctive yelp and quickly released her grip on me.My body, which had been suspended in the air, dropped suddenly, limbs contorting in unnatural ways as I hit the ground. My own weight crushed me, and I heard the sickening sound of bones snapping. All my bones must be broken now, and I thought, ‘George, do I finally look like a doll to you? The one you always wanted me to be?’I suddenly wondered what expression was on George’s face. It was too bad I could not see it anymore.Annie’s lackeys hurriedly stuffed me into a filthy garbage bag, but I did not struggle. I just lay there obediently.Ann

Annie sauntered over to George, whining for his attention. However, as she passed by me, she gave me another hard stomp on the face. The sound of her high heel grinding into my flesh filled my ears, but I could not feel the pain anymore. After being tortured repeatedly, my head slipped out of the plastic bag, and my body instinctively gasped for air.George, who had turned away, heard the sound and came back toward me, irritated. He leaned down close to my ear and said maliciously, "Trying so hard to get my attention, huh? You’re nothing but a filthy rat clinging to life. You’re not even good enough to imitate her."My face was full of holes and my eyes were constantly bleeding, making it impossible to recognize me. Hence, George did not realize who I was.Looking even more furious now, he grabbed a stick from the ground and jabbed it into my already ruined eye."Just die already."Yes, that was exactly what I was trying to do.I could not help but laugh and spit out the last

It was not until then that George noticed the injury on Annie's hand. He rushed over, shouting angrily, "How did you end up like this? This isn’t right! Luna would never look as pathetic as you!"Without another word, George grabbed Annie's arm, ready to call for someone to bandage her up.Seeing that George’s attention was finally on her, Annie’s face lit up. The pain in her hand vanished in an instant. She pouted, pushing her wounded hand toward George."George, I was bitten! It hurts so much, but you don't even feel sorry for me…”Before she could finish, George grabbed her arm so hard she thought he was about to break it. His eyes darted between the bite marks on her arm and his own.George’s voice trembled as he spoke, “W-Who bit you? Where is she now?”Maybe it was because of how I grew up. I was raised in luxury—spoiled from a young age, and I had a terrible habit of biting people when I got upset. What had once been a playful way to get my parents’ attention became my l

I thought, if George had not come into my life, I might have married that guy, had kids, and taken over the Sachs’ business together with him. However, George shattered that possibility—literally. He broke three of the guy’s ribs and forced him to have his legs amputated, leaving him disabled for life. That day, George was covered in blood, standing between me and the boy to stop me from even glancing in his direction.“Luna, you belong to me. You can only ever be mine. Anyone or anything that stands in our way, I will eliminate for you, no matter the cost.”After that, I shut myself off from the world. I did not dare interact with any other guy. I knew George was a madman, and I was terrified he would actually follow through on his threats, hurting innocent people just to keep me in line. Then, he imprisoned me for seven years and burned the Sachs’ entire business to the ground.“Luna, the Sachs are gone now. All you have is me! You’ll never escape from me again!”George forgot

George’s eyes were dark and unreadable, giving away no emotions.“What makes her better than you? Just because you bribed someone to find out about that little beauty mark in the corner of my favorite girl’s eye and got it tattooed doesn’t make you better.“Luna would never stoop so low. She wouldn’t degrade herself just to win a man’s love. She’s not a substitute.”That comment seemed to hit a nerve in Annie, and her voice turned frantic.“What’s wrong with being a substitute? I do it because I love you! As the Atkins’ daughter, I came here to act in this play, hoping you’d forget your so-called first love and fall for me instead!”George smiled, his eyes softening as he absentmindedly touched his lips.“That’s impossible. Luna gave me her first kiss. How could I ever forget her?”“George, you have to have some common sense! You can’t perform CPR during an asthma attack! It’ll make it worse! Luna was trying to kill you!”Annie was fully enraged now, sitting up straight and sho

George was done dealing with Annie, who was hanging on by a thread. Instead, he turned his focus to finding a way out.He tried to take his own life several times, but his men and Annie always pulled him back from the edge. He had lost it.He dropped to his knees in front of his men, begging, “Please, just let me die! Luna is waiting for me!”Annie, with a blank expression, dragged him toward the treatment room while continuing to prepare his medicine for him.Seeing George in such a pitiful state made me laugh. I remembered when I had begged George for mercy years ago, feeling utterly humiliated.I knelt by his bed, clothes disheveled, and pleaded, “George, please, just let me go! I’ll do anything you want. Just let me go and divorce me.” George, however, looked at me with a deep gaze, a soft smile playing on his lips.“Luna, don’t rush. I know you don’t truly love me right now. I won’t hurt you. I’ll wait until you fall in love with me. We have a lifetime; we can take our tim
