"Your right I did all those things to you but, all I'm trying to do is protect you!" I screamed. Melody looked puzzled. I could tell that I was even a little bit confused by my own words. Protect her? Protect her from what? She was fine at her home, she hadn't had a great life but the guys dead now. So truly what am I protecting her from? "Protect me? The one thing I really need protection from right now is you! You have no right to say that to me, you're the reason I need protecting at this point!" Melody shouted. She wasn't wrong, I am the one she needs protection from. "That's what I said, yes you're right you do need to be protected from me. But you have no idea what kinda world that you now live in Melody! Mafias..." I started. "I do now! Oh thanks for that by the way! I was perfectly fine living my life not knowing what was happening around me. I didn't ask for any of this Liam. And now thanks to you I am!" "I know that Melody..." "Do you really know Liam?" "I wasn't done talking Melody! Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't realize I was speaking to royalty! I'm done with this conversation! Like I said I'm not telling you anything so leave me the hell alone!"

Prologue

Melody POV ‘‘Guys, I’m 21! You can’t keep me here for the rest of my life!” I hollered. “I want to live my own life! And I want to discover who I am.” “I know, sweetheart.” My mom says, giving me her sweet smile. “We want you to be safe. We want nothing tragic to happen to you.” my father paused. “Again?” I quickly barked. I almost died in a car crash when I was 17. My ex-boyfriend was upset with me about something and he had severe road rage. And he had a bad temper. We were upside down on the road. After that, though, I can’t remember much. I don’t remember going to the hospital or how we even got hit. When the officers questioned me, I told them I don’t remember other than the car being upside down. Along with some other stuff they questioned me about. Ever since that day, I’ve had a super protective family. Well, more protective, I should say. It happened on the way home from somewhere in New York City, which is where I’ve lived my whole life. I don’t remember tons about tha

Chapter 1

I had put on three dresses and I’d walk out and Mack and Frank would immediately tell me to go back and change. It was getting quite infuriating. On my fourth outfit, I decided on a simple outfit instead of something that would make Mack and Frank disapprove of my outfit. Again. I picked out ripped blue jeans with an off-the-shoulder black shirt with some Adidas sneakers. As for my hair, I grabbed an orange scrunchie, put it in my hair, and did a high ponytail. “How about this outfit?” I asked, walking towards Mack and Frank and doing a little twirl for them. They both nodded, finally pleased with my outfit. Thank goodness, I have no clue what else I would wear. I have to be careful about which outfits to wear. Especially in this house. Any clothes that I like to wear are now in the junkyard. And with Mack and Frank, they’re extremely careful with the things I wear. And sometimes it sucks. But it’s different when events arrive. Why? No clue. I don’t get told a ton of things in thi

Chapter 2

We arrived at Thea's house and I walked her inside. She threw up in the sink, and slowly she got into bed and was out like a light. I grabbed her some water and grabbed her some ibuprofen for when she woke up tomorrow with a throbbing headache. After getting her to bed, We drove home. I said goodnight to Mack and Frank and went upstairs to head to bed. After getting my face washed and my teeth and hair brushed, I got into my gray hoodie that said New York on it with some high-waisted black leggings. I usually left my hair down but tonight I decided that I'd put my hair into a French braid. Once I slipped into bed, I almost immediately fell asleep with Liam on my mind. -----I got back to my home and called an emergency meeting and told them I had to change things because of some complications. Truth be told, I don't want to kidnap her at all. She seems innocent, and she didn't know the life her parents truly lived. The life she would have to inherit once her parents died. But I have

Chapter 3

My mind was racing and my heart was racing. Mack coming into my room and gunfire in the house was beyond petrifying. As I ran I heard voices and footsteps running toward me. They weren't voices I recognized, I knew everyone in my house and they weren't here to protect me. I couldn't hear the gunfire coming from the house anymore. The way Mack seemed calm like this has happened before but, once the door started getting knocked down that's when I saw horror plastered all over his face. He seemed scared of whatever was outside that door. I could see that he was terrified of what could happen to me.Once I hit the end of the tunnel I pushed open the door and ran faster than I'd ever done in my whole life. After a while of running, I decided to take a quick breather since I'd been running for what felt like hours."Split up again, find her!" A man demanded. That voice...I've heard it somewhere. As I'm trying to put the pieces together, that's when I remembered where I heard that voice. He

He was walking towards the table he had hit and was unrolling something. It looked like a massive roll of fabric. "Mack, what the hell is going on? Who is this guy?" I asked, indicating that I was talking about Liam. "SHUT UP!" Liam shouted once more. This guy has a serious temper. "Liam, she knows nothing. Leave her out of this." Mack said furiously. Know what? What is he talking about? He grabbed a throwing knife and walked over to me. It reminded me of the knives that they used in the first Divergent movie. And at that thought, I squirmed a little. "Mack was it?" Liam said, trying to provoke more anger in Mack. Which it's working, "Answer my questions and she doesn't get hurt. Got it?" "Liam I can't, you know that. I swore an oath to her parents." "Shame," Liam said. He bent down to my level and gave me a smirk. I felt the coldness of the knife slowly cut into my left arm. I bit the inside of my cheek and could feel tears attempting to leave my eyes. He stopped when my breat

"Goodbye Mack.""Melody, I love you." Mack said.Liam pulled the trigger. Liam had shot Mack in the heart and in the head. Liam unchained Mack and his body collapsed to the floor.I wanted to scream and yell at him. He'd swore he wouldn't kill Mack. And yet he did. I can’t believe I fell for that! I know a liar when I see them. I guess I’m not good at seeing that like I used to.He looked at me and could see the hatred that was all over my face. He walked towards me and ripped the duct tape off my mouth quickly."Ow!" I shouted. I want to cry at this point. Mack was gone and he said that others had been killed. He's going to torture me more at this point. I'd rather die than have to see anymore of this. I don’t want to go through this kinda pain again. I felt the hand of the person holding my face let go. But this time he covered my mouth with his hand instead."I can see how mad you are. I know I lied but, I'm part of a mafia which isn't an excuse for anything. But I usually don't

Did I hear that right? They might have killed Liam's parents? How is that possible! They're boring old people who have no life! All they do is work. This is all just an intense dream of some sorts. This isn't real, I can't be the daughter of the two of the most powerful people that own a mafia in freaking New York City!"Get her something to eat and drink, and clean up her wounds. They look gross." Liam said, nodding towards my arms and legs.Charlie quickly ripped the duct tape off and without even thinking I said, "You guys owe me a phone."Charlie chuckled, "Yeah that's not gonna happen."We sat in silence while Charlie went and grabbed bandages, alcohol, you name what doctors use he grabbed it. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. Like trained to do."You used to be a doctor.""I was.""Let me guess you decided to join the mafia." I sarcastically said."I did." Charlie responded ignoring my sarcasm. "You should stop with the sass, it's gonna get you into a lot more pain."

Chapter 7

It's been an hour since I sent Charlie to go grab the tray from her and put it back in the kitchen. I told him we had other stuff to discuss when he was done. Somethings not right. Wait didn't he cut...oh shit.I raced towards the basement and unlocked the door to see Charlie tied up and knocked out on the floor. I looked around to see the knives missing. Charlie's weapons were missing and so was Melody.I'm gonna kill that girl.I untied Charlie and I went to go get some water and made sure it was freezing cold. I had men check the house to see if she was still here and others to see if anything was missing.Once I came downstairs I dumped the thing of water on Charlie and he shot up. He looked around to see he was on the floor and Melody was missing."Hi pal." I said throwing the bucket to the side.Charlie quickly stood up, "Liam listen, she caught me by surprise. Maybe she's not far. I was only out for ten minutes or so?""Try an hour."Charlie's eyes went big, "Ah shit.""Yeah, n

Chapter 8

She flipping hung up on me! Is she crazy?! Thea’s got no idea who she just let in her house. I can’t tell her who they are. They’d probably kill her if she knew what Mack knew. That’s half the reason Liam killed him. After ten minutes, I sat in the car waiting for Thea to call the number back. Nothing. Another five minutes went by before I got a call.“THEA!” I felt like a piece of the world was just lifted off my shoulders. “I’m so glad that you’re okay.”“I’m glad she’s okay too... for now.”The voice wasn’t Thea’s. This voice was deeper, angry. He got to Thea before me. Before I could save her from him. “Damn you Liam.”“Hey now, I told you I can take the lives of anyone you care for or have ever met. I even told you I’d go after Thea first.”“Where is she?” I asked.“On her couch, fast asleep. Did you know she loves her brandy? She has an entire shelf just for that. It even has a sticker that says ‘don’t touch my brandy!’ I don’t know why, brandy’s disgusting. She should try bourb

Chapter 9

We've been driving for about an hour and a half before getting back to Liam's mansion. I never really looked at it before. Well, I never had the chance to.It was hard to tell what the color of his home looked like since we were driving into their massive driveway and they had tinted windows. The mansion seemed more like a castle. There was a fountain of some sort and a few balconies at some of the windows. There was a tower-like thing that reminded me of the tower from Tangled. To the left was where the garage. I'd stolen the ugly car from over there. And to the right seemed to be a garden with a pool in the back. The house was just massive. It was a cream-like color. His driveway was way too long. You don't need a massive driveway. Just enough to get your car into the garage. They even had a gate surrounding the entire house.Once the car came to a complete stop. I quickly opened my side of the door and quickly closed the door, leaning on the car. The three of them quickly got out o
