She flipping hung up on me! Is she crazy?! Thea’s got no idea who she just let in her house. I can’t tell her who they are. They’d probably kill her if she knew what Mack knew. That’s half the reason Liam killed him.

After ten minutes, I sat in the car waiting for Thea to call the number back. Nothing. Another five minutes went by before I got a call.

“THEA!” I felt like a piece of the world was just lifted off my shoulders. “I’m so glad that you’re okay.”

“I’m glad she’s okay too... for now.”

The voice wasn’t Thea’s. This voice was deeper, angry. He got to Thea before me. Before I could save her from him. “Damn you Liam.”

“Hey now, I told you I can take the lives of anyone you care for or have ever met. I even told you I’d go after Thea first.”

“Where is she?” I asked.

“On her couch, fast asleep. Did you know she loves her brandy? She has an entire shelf just for that. It even has a sticker that says ‘don’t touch my brandy!’ I don’t know why, brandy’s disgusting. She should try bourbon.”

“Leave her alone.” I quickly snapped.

He was right about the brandy, though. I’ve tried it and it’s nasty.

“I promise I won’t kill her and no one will kill her. Even people I don’t know. I’ll protect her.”

“Yeah, the last time you said that you promised me something, they ended up dead.” I said. I could feel the tears pricking at my eyes. Seeing him get killed and seeing the dead body was killing me. I cared for him. And now he’s gone.

“You can trust me.” Liam reassured me. And I don’t buy his act for one second.

I chuckled at his words, “A promise from you is like me saying I’m going vegan. And that’s not happening because meat is pretty freaking good.”

“I swear on my mother and father’s soul that if you come back, I will protect her as long as you stay at my home. And she will not get tortured at all.”

“I wanna see her first.” I said. It’s a good deal, and the price to protect those I’ve cared for and met is worth being stuck in a stupid house for who knows how long.

Oh, gosh, I’ve just become Belle and Liam is the freaking Beast. Though that movie is pretty good. Even if I become Belle, it’s worth it.

“Fine with me. But you’re gonna have to convince her you never called her and that you are fine. I’ll tell you more about what you’re going to do when you get here.” Liam paused. I could tell he was waiting for me to say something. “How far are you?”

“About ten minutes.”

“Get here before I decide to hurt someone else.” Liam threatened and quickly hung up the phone. Once that phone call was over, I dumped the phone into the nearest garbage can and sped to get to her house.

Once I got about a mile away from Thea’s house, I left the car and walked to her house.

And there stood Liam with two guys I don’t think I’ve met before. And if I did, I didn’t recognise them. Liam came up to me and yanked on my arm. I flinched in pain and yanked my arm from him.

“I’m here. Now, what do you want me to say to my best friend?” All I want is to cry, but I can’t show any more weakness. I showed him once, and it cost Mack’s life. I’m not letting Thea into this mess because of me. Who knows how she'd react to all of this.

“You need to clean up. You look like shit.” Liam said.

All I want to say to him right now is that it’s his fault for that. After all, he’s the one who tortured me. Well, he could’ve done more damage if he really wanted to. I think I saw guilt in his eyes while he was torturing me. Who am I kidding, he doesn’t have any emotions. Only hatred. And even if he showed any remorse, then why keep torturing me? And how did I not know about my parents being in a mafia? Were they going to make me take over when they died?

I can’t think like that right now. If I do, then more questions are going to come and I won’t get answers from Liam. And right now, only Thea matters to me. I have to get back to reality. The world isn’t peachy at all. I learned that lesson a long time ago...one I never forgot.

“Wouldn’t be the first time.” I said.

He handed me a pair of new clothes with some makeup to cover the bruises that were sure to show up more tomorrow.

The clothes he gave me weren’t that bad. The shirt he gave me was a maroon hoodie with white stripes on them (although it’s kinda hot outside), and a pair of long black jeans. So basically it was my outfit, but with longer pants and longer sleeves. And the makeup he bought covered all the bruises that I could see. I went inside to change into Thea’s bathroom and waited till she woke up. Liam somewhat told me what to do. Actually, no, he didn’t. He just told me to lie. That’s it. Thea’s smarter than she acts.

Thea started waking up and looked at me, confused, “MELODY!” Thea shrieked. She sat up and hugged me. I flinched when she started squeezing. She let go, and glanced around the room, looking for anyone else.

“There were three other guys here. Where did they go?”

“I’ve been here the whole time, Thea. We had a couple of drinks and you passed out. Don’t you remember any of that?”

Thea looked puzzled. “No, you said don’t talk to the guys who were in the house. They put a cloth over my mouth and I passed out.”

“Thea, I’ve been here the whole time. We’ve been hanging out for the past two hours.” I lied. All of this is already making me want to cry.

“No, you’re lying. What really happened, Melody?” Thea asked.

“We got a little drunk, that’s it!” I yelled. Rarely, I yelled at Thea. I’ve known her my whole life and I’ve only yelled at her when I was in that... relationship with Tom. And like this time, he had threatened Thea’s life. Unlike Liam, Tom almost killed Thea. She got in a crash once because I told him we were over. The next day I got a phone call saying that she was in a crash. She got hit with another car, but they never knew who the other driver was. But I knew. I got a phone call telling me that if I didn’t listen next time, she wouldn’t survive.

“Melody, what is going on with you? You only yelled at me with Tom. Is something else going on that you’re not telling me?” She asked. I could see that look in her eyes. The one that always got me to say what was really going on.

“Do not mention him.” I snapped. “And the reason we got drunk was because I’m leaving the country for a while.”

“You’re what?!”

“I got this amazing chance for college to go see Europe, and if I like it, I’m going to move somewhere over there.”

Thea started crying. This was killing me. She’s my best friend. Well my only friend.

“You can’t be going! You’re lying to me.”

“Thea, I swear I’m telling you the truth.”

“I don’t believe you.” Thea said sternly. She was giving me one of her famous death stares.

“And why not?” I asked. She was smart and if she answered the way, I think she’s going to answer, then my response was going to kill the both of us.

“Because we’re best friends, Melody. And I can tell when you’re lying, that’s how close we are. And I don’t like you going out of the country. If you even think that, then you’re wrong.”

There it was the answer I didn’t want to hear.

“Well, I told you the truth. And yet you say I’m lying. I care about our friendship Thea... but if you won’t even let me live out my life because you think I’m lying, then you don’t know me at all.”

“That’s the thing I know you.”

“Apparently not. And until you accept that I’m figuring out what I want to do with my life, you won’t see me.” I know I’m being dramatic about this but, it’s the only way to get through to her. Even if making it seem like a stupid way to say goodbye then I really need to work on ways of lying better. And the more dramatic I am, the more she won’t push me. It sounds dumb, but that’s how she works. It’s just who she is.

Her eyes went wide, “Melody...”

“Goodbye Thea.” I said. Before she could say anything, I ran out the door and could hear her screaming my name. I kept running until I reached where Liam told me to meet him. That’s when everything started hitting me. I’d just done the hardest thing in my life. My best friend thinks I hate her. I lied to her, and I even snapped at her.

“Let’s go.” Liam said. He went to grab my wrist, but I walked faster and opened the door. But before I did, there’s one thing that he deserves.

“Hey Liam.” I looked at him and he looked at me, obviously annoyed.

“What?”

I don’t know what I want to even say to him right now. He’s a jerk. And at that moment, I did the most ridiculous thing I could’ve done in this situation. I punched him right in the face. Before he could react, I quickly slid all the way in. I heard the car door slam.

We've been driving for about an hour and a half before getting back to Liam's mansion. I never really looked at it before. Well, I never had the chance to.It was hard to tell what the color of his home looked like since we were driving into their massive driveway and they had tinted windows. The mansion seemed more like a castle. There was a fountain of some sort and a few balconies at some of the windows. There was a tower-like thing that reminded me of the tower from Tangled. To the left was where the garage. I'd stolen the ugly car from over there. And to the right seemed to be a garden with a pool in the back. The house was just massive. It was a cream-like color. His driveway was way too long. I quickly opened my side of the door and quickly closed the door, leaning on the car. The three of them quickly got out o

"You're right, I did all those things to you but, all I'm trying to do is protect you!" I screamed.Melody looked at me puzzled. I'm even a little puzzled by my words. Protect her? Protect her from what? She was fine at her house, she hadn't had the best life. So, truly, what am I protecting her from?"Protect me? The one thing I really need protection from right now is you! You have no right to say that to me. You're the reason I need protection in the first place!" Melody shouted."That's what I said, yes you're right you do need to be protected from me. But you have no idea what kind of world you now live in, Melody! Mafias..." I started."I do now! Oh, thanks for that, by the way! I was perfectly fine living my life not knowing what was happening around me with my parents and things going on in my house! I didn't ask for any of this, Liam. Not only that, but I don't want anything to do with this lifestyle. And now, thanks to you, I am!""I know that Melody..." "Do you know Liam?"

"Deal." I quickly said. I intended to go shopping for her this week anyway. At least this way, I get something out of it. "We can talk in the kitchen, I thought you might be hungry." She nodded, and we walked towards the kitchen I had Savanna make us some dinner. She made a mean steak and potatoes. We only sat in silence for a few minutes before our food arrived. After we finished eating, I looked at Melody. She seemed to be pondering something. But I want to know what kind of stupid deal I made with her."Talk," I ordered. "Okay, the first year I dated..." Melody stuttered. She was still having a hard time saying his name, I guess. She took a deep breath trying to relax her nerves, "When I dated him, he'd lock me in his room when a few friends came over.""Okay, they probably didn't want them to look at you." I shrugged my shoulders. I mean, I'd do the same thing with certain people. Especially with how beautiful she is. Wait, did I just say that? She shifted in her seat a little

That was just a horrible dream... nothing that night happened. I told Liam a little bit about Tom and went straight to bed.I woke up and tried stretching and getting ready for the day, but I felt my hands not moving, and my legs wouldn't let me stand up.And why is my mouth feeling funny?I looked down and saw my legs and hands tied...again. And the funny feeling on my mouth was none other than duct tape. Why do they have to keep doing that? Haven't they heard of a simple knockout?I started moving my arms and legs, trying to get myself free. I stopped and started screaming as loud as I could, the duct tape muffling the sound. After what felt like hours, I finally stopped and waited for someone to see that I was missing.I have no idea what time it even is. There wasn't a clock in here, the door was closed shut. I started hearing screaming through the house, and it sounded like it echoed throughout the whole house. Like we were in a cave.Suddenly, the doorknob in my room violently

I still can't believe that Melody hugged me, and cried in my arms. And when she did, I hugged her back and started stroking her hair, calming her down.Melody had decided to go and shower and grabbed the first pair of clothes she could find and took them into the bathroom with her.Her eyes were puffy, and her hair seemed crazy. She said he'd pulled on her hair and dragged her to the closet. I pushed the matter, and she started crying again, but even more this time. I wanted to keep comforting her and want to have her in my arms again. She also told me that he'd left a piece of paper on her bed for me. I walked out of her room with the note and headed to my office. Once I sat down, I pulled out the letter. Liam, War is coming. And you and I will meet. Hopefully, Melody updated you on what I said. Nothing will stop me from doing what I want. If you ask yourself what that might be, well let me tell you. I want your mafia, I want Melody's parent's mafia. And during or sometime after, w

"Melody?" The person asked. When I looked up at Charlie and another guy standing next to him. I stood up and ran in the other direction. Charlie's hand grabbed mine. Knowing I'd run off from a mafia dude isn't smart. But I can't face him! He stood there and watched Liam, that person. It even looked like he enjoyed watching it."Melody, look at me!" Charlie demanded. I looked at him and yanked my hand away from his."Why'd you run off?" The other guy asked."This is Jensen, he's an ass," Charlie added."Am not," Jensen grumbled.I looked at both of them and I don't even have the words to say anything."Melody, why'd you run away from us?" Charlie repeated Jensen's question. He inched towards me, but I quickly stepped back. I saw it click in both Charlie and Jensen's brain that I was the intruder."Melody, please tell me..." Charlie started.I quickly cut him off, "Just stop it, Charlie! Yes, I did see that man. Yes, I saw what Liam did. By the way, it smelled like rotten flesh in there!

After I slammed the door, I just moved away from and collapsed on the floor, slowly letting tears fall. I waited for Liam to come into 'my' room and yell at me more. But he never barged in. I didn't like the way he spoke to me. It reminded me far too much of how Tom used to treat me. When he asked if I'd give Tom another chance, he was definitely out of line.Instead of taking me shopping today, he took me out the next day, we bought so much. I told him I didn't need so much. I woke up, doing my morning routine. As I saw myself in the mirror. Dark circles started forming underneath my eyes. I looked exhausted and looked like I was about to kill someone. The second I thought that I decided I needed to blow some steam off. And when I mean blow steam off, I'm going to the gym. After I started my workout, I didn't stop until my hands were bleeding badly and started to bruise. I jumped in the shower that was near the gym and stayed in there for who knows how long. Once I jumped out, I put on new clothes that I'd brought with me. I then grabbed the first aid kit that was stashed away in case of blood and bruises. Which I have.I walked out of the gym and headed towards the tech room and saw something...unexpected.Wilson and Emily making out. They didn't seem to notice me, so I cleared my throat. They both looked at me and they both pushed away from each other. "Look, sir..." Wilson started before I cut him off."You can do whatever you want. Both of you are

My heart started to beat so fast that my heart was going to jump out. I don't know how I'm supposed to be taking all of this. Am I supposed to say, 'Do what he wants' or, 'Don't listen to him! He's going to kill me and you, regardless of what you do.' This is why I don't develop feelings for people anymore. I've had my heart repeatedly broken, and I don't know how much more heartbreak I can take. "What's it going to be, Mr. King, helping me or fight for love? Especially when you know, regardless of what, I'll get what I want either way."Liam looked at me directly in the eyes, with what I saw in his eyes was they were dark and clouded. His face completely calm and showed no emotion. He didn't seem to have any sign that he cared what could happen next. That Liam didn't mean it when he said I love you.And that last thought terrified me to my core. I'm not ready to die! I'm 21! "Follow me." Liam grumbled. My father was holding my girl away from me...my girl! I don't care if he's family, she's family...she's my home.Home.I looked at Melody and her eyes were all red and a tad bit puffy. She seemed to have calmed down a bit, which is good. I don't need her doing something ridiculous that's going to possibly get her hurt or killed. I don't know what I'd do if she was hurt even more by them. And if she died right here, I know I'll never be the same again. I eyed Payton closely, just as Charlie had been doing. I could see it in his eyes, the way he watched each step Payton took and where Payton's eyes were at. Unfortunately, they were either at me or Melody. "Charlie, have a seat...please." Payton ordered, a smirk forming on his face.I looked at Charlie from the corner of my eye and saw all the color from his face immediately drain. I touched the door handle and that feeling that something was wrong increased significantly. As we entered the room, I noticed that Payton had gotten out of his chair and was covering Melody's mouth with one hand. His other hand had a knife near her throat.Charlie and I went for our guns when a sob came from Melody. Payton had put it right at her throat. It was close enough that if she moved, she was a goner. We both moved our hands away from our guns, and he moved the knife a bit away from her throat. I looked more closely at her and saw both hands were behind her back, while her eyes were red and puffy. Why would he do this to her? I thought he loved he

Especially, every time I shifted in my seat, they all looked at me as if I were going to do something stupid. Which I might if I'm being honest with myself. "You know you should get some sleep." I turned around to see that it was Charlie who had said that."I'm okay." I mumbled. Charlie just sighed and didn't push me to sleep on the flight any further. Which I'm grateful for, especially since I'm not even tired. Okay, maybe just a little tired. But I'm not sleeping on this flight or anywhere near them. Payton and I are gonna escape with Nick, Clark, and James and then that's when I'll sleep. Well, possibly if they don't kill them first. Which is a very slim chance at this point. The weird
