My mind was racing and my heart was racing. Mack coming into my room and gunfire in the house was beyond petrifying.

As I ran I heard voices and footsteps running toward me. They weren't voices I recognized, I knew everyone in my house and they weren't here to protect me. I couldn't hear the gunfire coming from the house anymore. The way Mack seemed calm like this has happened before but, once the door started getting knocked down that's when I saw horror plastered all over his face. He seemed scared of whatever was outside that door. I could see that he was terrified of what could happen to me.

Once I hit the end of the tunnel I pushed open the door and ran faster than I'd ever done in my whole life.

After a while of running, I decided to take a quick breather since I'd been running for what felt like hours.

"Split up again, find her!" A man demanded.

That voice...I've heard it somewhere.

As I'm trying to put the pieces together, that's when I remembered where I heard that voice. He was at the bar that night, he bumped into me on purpose. He was the one who I recognized in my home. I gasped when I realized it was Liam. And I know I'm about to regret it and regret going into that bar and giving him my name.

-----

We'd raced outside and I had us take two people with them and start walking in different directions trying to find this girl. After about an hour I made everyone come back to me.

"Anything?" I asked.

All of them shook their heads, "we couldn't even find footprints."

"Split up again, find her!" I demanded.

Each one of them nodded their head. We barely made it an inch before we heard a gasp. All of us looked in the direction of where the sound came from. We all approached the sound and there she sat. All dirty and sweaty.

"There you are, Melody." I smiled.

"You were at the bar that night. You bumped into me on purpose."She asked, carefully standing up, "why?" She asked.

"We just need to have a talk at my mansion." I lied. I nodded toward Ashton and Alex, who were closest to her. Once they grabbed her arms she got out of their grasp and grabbed one of their guns and aimed it at their knees and shot them. We all started moving forward towards her but stopped when they saw she was aiming at my heart.

"I'm not going with you. You can talk with me right there." Melody said nodding to where we were all standing, "and don't think I won't shoot you, because I will."

"Have you taken a life before Melody?" I asked.

"No, but there's a first time for everything." Melody quickly responded.

"Your dad says that, I've heard him say it a lot before actually."

"You know my dad?" Melody said, still holding onto the guns. "If you knew my dad you want something? Not money, I can see you have a lot." Melody said, nodding towards my outfit.

"Smart girl," I said. No one said a word for a few minutes waiting for my instructions. Honestly, though, I have no idea what to do next. She's an intelligent girl. Graduated high school early and came out with an associate's degree. She's even in great shape. She ran like six miles without stopping.

"What do your parents do Melody?" I asked.

She looked puzzled for a moment, "they own a lot of buildings. They used to be doctors but stopped when I was born. And they are business people now, so honestly, I don't know and I don't care. They're boring and all I know is that they're somewhere in Paris right now."

Well, she should care since her parents are in the mafia. And when she said that, it seemed a bit rehearsed to me. Like she was told that for her whole life.

"Are you sure that's what they do? Just own buildings and are a type of business people and don't do something else? Like something on the side?" I asked.

She lowered the guns and raised her right eyebrow, "yeah."

I then saw her drop both of the guns and went to her neck where I had one of my men shoot her with a dart that would knock her out for at least an hour or more. Her eyes closed immediately and she fell to the ground.

"Grab her and let's go," I ordered.

Once we got everyone in the car we started heading back to my house. And then we'd see what she truly knows about her family and any secrets she knows.

----

I'm grateful for my father pushing me to learn how to use a gun and do some self-defense. But my heart started beating faster and faster when he asked me if that's what they did. I know my parents, they're business people. They're boring and don't do anything fun. All they do is go on business trips and come home and work and do more stuff for work. They even have meetings at home. They even tell me to go away when they have people over.

"Yeah," I responded by lowering the guns I had. I dropped them and went to my neck and pulled out a dart. I felt myself fall to the ground and passed out.

I woke up in a bed and in some sort of room that had bars on the window. I'm in a freaking cell. I rushed out of bed and ran towards the door. I started pulling on the doorknob and of course, it was locked.

"What the hell is going on!" I shouted while banging on the door, "let me out! And I swear if this is some kinda sick joke from Thea you can tell her that this isn't funny whatsoever!"

I heard the door unlock, and I backed away from the door so I wouldn't get hit. And there he stood the man who I'd met at the bar and the one I had aimed the guns at his heart.

"You're awake!"

"Duh," I said as I rolled my eyes.

He started coming towards me and I already knew that he was going to grab my neck and slam me into the crumbling concrete wall. Once he was inches from me I ducked out of the way and took his gun from the holster and aimed it at him once more.

"I'm leaving, and I swear if you come near me I will kill you and anyone who gets in my way," I warned him.

"I will find you." He replied.

"No, you won't." I started walking out the door when he chuckled.

"What's so funny?" I asked. I stopped and looked at him. He had a smirk come across his face, "I asked you a question. What's so funny?"

"I have someone here I believe his name is Mack?"

My eyes went wide, "Where is he?"

"Not telling. So unless you want him to die I suggest you put the gun down and kick it towards me."

"How do I know you won't kill me?" I asked.

"Well right now you're worth more to me alive than dead." He replied.

"I'll do it if you promise me that you or anyone and I mean anyone will not kill Mack and won't kill him at all."

"Deal."

I put the gun on the floor and kicked it toward him. He picked it up and put it back in his holster.

"Follow me." He said.

He walked past me and I didn't move. That's when I felt his smooth hands grip my wrist and started dragging me to god knows where.

Once we neared the end of the hallway I could now hear screaming.

"What is that?" I asked. He didn't reply, "hello? Earth to Liam."

"Shut up." He mumbled.

He yanked open the door and there was Mack he was being beaten by a man standing in front of him. Mack was inches off the floor and his hands had been tied up with chains.

"MACK!" I screeched. I felt myself being dragged over to a spot near him. They had pulled an aluminum chair out and I was forced to sit there. They had started tying my hands and legs to the sides of the chair making it impossible for me to stand up.

"Let her go!" Mack shouted.

"Shut up!" Liam shouted, pounding his fist into a table near him. "Charlie, you're free to leave."

The guy named Charlie rushed out of the room and locked the door behind him.

"Now let's have some fun shall we?" Liam said with a smirk forming on his face.

He was walking towards the table he had hit and was unrolling something. It looked like a massive roll of fabric. "Mack, what the hell is going on? Who is this guy?" I asked, indicating that I was talking about Liam. "SHUT UP!" Liam shouted once more. This guy has a serious temper. "Liam, she knows nothing. Leave her out of this." Mack said furiously. Know what? What is he talking about? He grabbed a throwing knife and walked over to me. It reminded me of the knives that they used in the first Divergent movie. And at that thought, I squirmed a little. "Mack was it?" Liam said, trying to provoke more anger in Mack. Which it's working, "Answer my questions and she doesn't get hurt. Got it?" "Liam I can't, you know that. I swore an oath to her parents." "Shame," Liam said. He bent down to my level and gave me a smirk. I felt the coldness of the knife slowly cut into my left arm. I bit the inside of my cheek and could feel tears attempting to leave my eyes. He stopped when my breat

"Goodbye Mack.""Melody, I love you." Mack said.Liam pulled the trigger. Liam had shot Mack in the heart and in the head. Liam unchained Mack and his body collapsed to the floor.I wanted to scream and yell at him. He'd swore he wouldn't kill Mack. And yet he did. I can’t believe I fell for that! I know a liar when I see them. I guess I’m not good at seeing that like I used to.He looked at me and could see the hatred that was all over my face. He walked towards me and ripped the duct tape off my mouth quickly."Ow!" I shouted. I want to cry at this point. Mack was gone and he said that others had been killed. He's going to torture me more at this point. I'd rather die than have to see anymore of this. I don’t want to go through this kinda pain again. I felt the hand of the person holding my face let go. But this time he covered my mouth with his hand instead."I can see how mad you are. I know I lied but, I'm part of a mafia which isn't an excuse for anything. But I usually don't

Did I hear that right? They might have killed Liam's parents? How is that possible! They're boring old people who have no life! All they do is work. This is all just an intense dream of some sorts. This isn't real, I can't be the daughter of the two of the most powerful people that own a mafia in freaking New York City!"Get her something to eat and drink, and clean up her wounds. They look gross." Liam said, nodding towards my arms and legs.Charlie quickly ripped the duct tape off and without even thinking I said, "You guys owe me a phone."Charlie chuckled, "Yeah that's not gonna happen."We sat in silence while Charlie went and grabbed bandages, alcohol, you name what doctors use he grabbed it. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. Like trained to do."You used to be a doctor.""I was.""Let me guess you decided to join the mafia." I sarcastically said."I did." Charlie responded ignoring my sarcasm. "You should stop with the sass, it's gonna get you into a lot more pain."

It's been an hour since I sent Charlie to go grab the tray from her and put it back in the kitchen. I told him we had other stuff to discuss when he was done. Somethings not right. Wait didn't he cut...oh shit.I raced towards the basement and unlocked the door to see Charlie tied up and knocked out on the floor. I looked around to see the knives missing. Charlie's weapons were missing and so was Melody.I'm gonna kill that girl.I untied Charlie and I went to go get some water and made sure it was freezing cold. I had men check the house to see if she was still here and others to see if anything was missing.Once I came downstairs I dumped the thing of water on Charlie and he shot up. He looked around to see he was on the floor and Melody was missing."Hi pal." I said throwing the bucket to the side.Charlie quickly stood up, "Liam listen, she caught me by surprise. We've been driving for about an hour and a half before getting back to Liam's mansion. I never really looked at it before. Well, I never had the chance to.It was hard to tell what the color of his home looked like since we were driving into their massive driveway and they had tinted windows. The mansion seemed more like a castle. There was a fountain of some sort and a few balconies at some of the windows. There was a tower-like thing that reminded me of the tower from Tangled. To the left was where the garage. I'd stolen the ugly car from over there. And to the right seemed to be a garden with a pool in the back. The house was just massive. It was a cream-like color. His driveway was way too long. You don't need a massive driveway. Just enough to get your car into the garage. They even had a gate surrounding the entire house.Once the car came to a complete stop. I quickly opened my side of the door and quickly closed the door, leaning on the car. The three of them quickly got out o

"You're right, I did all those things to you but, all I'm trying to do is protect you!" I screamed.Melody looked at me puzzled. I'm even a little puzzled by my words. Protect her? Protect her from what? She was fine at her house, she hadn't had the best life. So, truly, what am I protecting her from?"Protect me? The one thing I really need protection from right now is you! You have no right to say that to me. You're the reason I need protection in the first place!" Melody shouted."That's what I said, yes you're right you do need to be protected from me. I woke up, doing my morning routine. As I saw myself in the mirror. Dark circles started forming underneath my eyes. I looked exhausted and looked like I was about to kill someone. The second I thought that I decided I needed to blow some steam off. And when I mean blow steam off, I'm going to the gym. After I started my workout, I didn't stop until my hands were bleeding badly and started to bruise. I jumped in the shower that was near the gym and stayed in there for who knows how long. Once I jumped out, I put on new clothes that I'd brought with me. I then grabbed the first aid kit that was stashed away in case of blood and bruises. Which I have.I walked out of the gym and headed towards the tech room and saw something...unexpected.Wilson and Emily making out. They didn't seem to notice me, so I cleared my throat. They both looked at me and they both pushed away from each other. "Look, sir..." Wilson started before I cut him off."You can do whatever you want. Both of you are

"Well, I was hoping you'd be out for a while longer," Payton admitted.I heard a slight chuckle from Charlie, "I was never out. Nick sucks at knocking people out.""I will shoot him." Payton threatened."You even try pulling the trigger, you will be dead before you blink an eye." Charlie threatened back. I got pulled back a bit by Nick, further away from Payton and Charlie."What are you..." I started but got cut off when Nick's hand covered my mouth."If you want anyone you care about to survive, you're going to do exactly what I say..." Nick whispered. He leaned directly next to my ear, his hot breath on my ear and a little on my neck, "I know Mack is on the driver's side of the van..."Mack? My heart started to beat so fast that my heart was going to jump out. I don't know how I'm supposed to be taking all of this. Am I supposed to say, 'Do what he wants' or, 'Don't listen to him! He's going to kill me and you, regardless of what you do.' This is why I don't develop feelings for people anymore. I've had my heart repeatedly broken, and I don't know how much more heartbreak I can take. "What's it going to be, Mr. King, helping me or fight for love? Especially when you know, regardless of what, I'll get what I want either way."Liam looked at me directly in the eyes, with what I saw in his eyes was they were dark and clouded. His face completely calm and showed no emotion. He didn't seem to have any sign that he cared what could happen next. That Liam didn't mean it when he said I love you.And that last thought terrified me to my core. I'm not ready to die! I'm 21! "Follow me." Liam grumbled. My father was holding my girl away from me...my girl! I don't care if he's family, she's family...she's my home.Home.I looked at Melody and her eyes were all red and a tad bit puffy. She seemed to have calmed down a bit, which is good. I don't need her doing something ridiculous that's going to possibly get her hurt or killed. I don't know what I'd do if she was hurt even more by them. And if she died right here, I know I'll never be the same again. I eyed Payton closely, just as Charlie had been doing. I could see it in his eyes, the way he watched each step Payton took and where Payton's eyes were at. Unfortunately, they were either at me or Melody. "Charlie, have a seat...please." Payton ordered, a smirk forming on his face.I looked at Charlie from the corner of my eye and saw all the color from his face immediately drain. We both knew what could happen to us if we didn't listen to Payton, but the thing that scared me the most was what he could do to Melody.Charlie considere

It's been a few minutes since I left her there alone with Payton. My gut told me minutes ago to rush in there to make sure she was fine. I heard yelling in there. I almost went in there, but Charlie tapped my shoulder, telling me to wait. So, I decided to listened to him and stay put. "Liam, come in here, please!" Melody shouted. I touched the door handle and that feeling that something was wrong increased significantly. As we entered the room, I noticed that Payton had gotten out of his chair and was covering Melody's mouth with one hand. His other hand had a knife near her throat.Charlie and I went for our guns when a sob came from Melody. Payton had put it right at her throat. It was close enough that if she moved, she was a goner. We both moved our hands away from our guns, and he moved the knife a bit away from her throat. I looked more closely at her and saw both hands were behind her back, while her eyes were red and puffy. Why would he do this to her? I thought he loved he

If it isn't bad, maybe that should wake her up. She didn't wake up. Just more tears streamed down her face."Please stop!" She pleaded."What the heck is she dreaming about?" They've been nothing but cruel to me the second I met them. Honestly, I don't feel welcome at the moment. Especially, every time I shifted in my seat, they all looked at me as if I were going to do something stupid. Which I might if I'm being honest with myself. "You know you should get some sleep." I turned around to see that it was Charlie who had said that."I'm okay." I mumbled. Charlie just sighed and didn't push me to sleep on the flight any further.
