Marly POV
Before I could do anything, Cassie moved forward and slapped me across the face. “Get your hands off my boyfriend,” she yelled, as my parents and the Alpha came through the door. My mother moved forward and took the coffee from Maxwell, “My apologies Alpha. Allow me to take this,” my mother said, ever the helpful hostess.
Everyone was ignoring my red face and looking to Cassie for an explanation. “What is the meaning of this, Cassie?” my father demanded. “My sister was kissing my boyfriend!” Cassie yelled. “I was not,” I started to say when Maxwell glared at me. What did that look mean?
“It was a misunderstanding; no harm done,” the Alpha stated with a chuckle. No harm done? There was harm done. Maxwell was lying to everyone. He had the chance to tell them, and he chose not to. What was going on? I knew my eyes had hurt in them, but I could not release the tears that were stinging my eyes.
“I am sorry, Alpha,” I whispered, uncertain what else I could do. I simply looked to the floor, as my father’s anger radiated off him. “No need to be sorry. Now let’s enjoy this dessert,” the Alpha suggested. Everyone returned to the dining room, with the exception of my father.
“Whatever the hell this was, it is not over. You have royally embarrassed this family, and you will be punished,” he promised. I cringed before picking up the plate of desserts, trying to ignore the stinging of my cheek. I brought the desserts in and handed them out. The Alpha dove into his, exclaiming his delight.
Everyone else was incredibly tense at the exchange earlier. Nerves were swirling inside at what was to come when everyone left. “So, what do you say, Marly?” I heard the Alpha ask. “Pardon?” I replied, ignoring the looks of disgust from my parents. “Will you help with Maxwell’s ceremony?” he repeated.
“Oh, of course. I would be honored to do so,” I responded, genuinely excited to be part of planning our ceremony. It gave me butterflies to think of being up front of everyone who had treated me like crap over the years. To then see me as their Luna. Gaining their trust and affection. I could hardly contain myself.
“Wonderful – planning will start tomorrow, as the event will be in just three days. I want to introduce Maxwell and his mate, as soon as possible,” the Alpha said directing a wink at me. My mind is blown. Whatever punishment awaits me, I do not care. The Alpha is basically endorsing me as the next Luna.
I smile and dive into my dessert not tasting a piece of the delicious food. I am already planning the colors, theme and food for the event in my mind. I do not know Maxwell’s favourite foods, but the chef can help me with that. My mind has to be focused on showcasing my talents so everyone will see I am ready and capable to lead as their Luna.
Before I knew it, the evening was over, and Maxwell and his father were gone. I quickly stood to clear the table and clean everything up. My father came up behind me, “Be grateful you are expected to be at the pack house tomorrow. Your punishment will have to wait,” he said before leaving me alone.
Cassie came in afterwards and shoved me into the counter before cornering me. “You think you are so smart. Well, let me tell you something. I will be Maxwell’s mate, and you will be trapped in this house at my beck and call. Remember, I promise you, that will be your fate,” she scowled before slamming out the door of the house.
I simply smiled after she left. I would be the Luna, and she would be at my beck and call as the Gamma. I finished cleaning up and quickly prepared for bed. I went to sleep dreaming of being on stage, accepting my fate as the Luna and my ceremony with Maxwell. The sparks that bounced between us were still felt on my lips. I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
The next three days passed by quickly. I had every detail covered, and the only thing left was to try and get an appropriate dress for myself. I knew I would have to try and convince my mother I needed one, and I did not know how that would go. I approached her the day before the ceremony, to make my request.
“Gamma Female,” I said, drawing her attention to me. “What?” she replied coldly. “I am wanting to get a dress for the ceremony tomorrow night. I believe the Alpha expects me to be present,” I said in a rush. My mother looked to me, and then looked away, “You are probably right. Take something from your sister’s closet,” she said, dismissing me.
“Her clothes will not fit,” I reminded her quietly. My mother dragged her eyes from what she was reading, “Of course they will not. You are much bigger than your sister,” she stated in disgust. “Go to the thrift shop and pick something out. Here is some money,” she said.
I looked at the money, knowing it would not buy much. But I was creative and would come up with something appropriate for a Luna to wear for tomorrow night. Thanking my mother, I raced off to the thrift shop and after an hour of searching I found exactly what I was looking for.
Paying the clerk, I had enough money left over to purchase a pair of shoes to go with the dress. It was not expensive, but it was the most glamourous thing I have had the chance to wear. I hurry back home and tuck my purchases in my closet, just as Cassie enters my room.
“What are you doing?” she asked. “Nothing,” I replied as I tried to move past her. “Do not think you are going to the ceremony. You are there to serve,” she said as if reminding me of my place. I simply put my head down and ignored her as I went to prepare supper for my family.
After everything was washed up, I hurried back to my room, eager to work on my dress for tomorrow night. As I entered the room, I saw the closet door open slightly. I knew I had closed it when I left. I moved slowly to the door and opened it. NO!!!
Marly POV Tears filled my eyes, as I looked at the dress and shoes. They were destroyed. The shoes were marked up, and the dress was torn in various places of the dress. I looked at it in despair wondering if I would be able to salvage any of it. I worked all night on the dress and was finally satisfied enough to get a couple hours of sleep. I had to pack a bag as I would not be coming back to change for the ceremony. Secretly I packed some extra items, as I knew I would not be coming back at all. Anything of mine would be sent to the pack house, tomorrow once I had been named Maxwell’s Luna. The day flew by, with all the details coming together perfectly. I made sure every detail was perfection, before I quickly went to the common washroom to change. I heard the various guests arriving throughout the day, catching glimpses of the Alphas and Lunas from other packs who were here to celebrate Maxwell. I slip
Carson POV I hated these events. Even more so when I despised the Alpha of the pack. And the Red Pines Pack had been a thorn in my side for years. Ever since I took over the Full Moon Pack as the Alpha Lycan. I am one of five Lycans who had to fight for their pack in the Kingdom. We had to fight for our packs, and under us are the packs within our jurisdictions. Unfortunately, a few of the packs in my jurisdiction are run by assholes. I had my suspicions about the Red Pines Pack but could never prove anything. I sighed as I listened to Jeff, my Beta ramble on about us being late for the ceremony. “We are going to miss out on all the hot women,” Jeff muttered, as I laughed at him. “I am sure there will be a woman or two left for you,” I replied, as he smiled, “Undoubtedly,” he agreed. “What happens if you find your mate? You have been with almost every woman out there,” I reminded him. “I am convinced I h
Carson POV “Mate? Didn’t your mate die in a tragic rogue attack?” Alpha Luke taunted me. I felt my claws start to extend from my hands as Kane started to take over. Taking a moment to breathe, I calmed Kane down, before responding to the bastard standing in front of me. “It would seem I am being given a second chance mate,” I replied coldly. The Alpha had a look of discomfort cross his face, as the young Alpha stood taller. “That is not possible, she is mine!” he exclaimed as his father whipped his head around to glare at him. “Are you telling me you rejected your fated mate?” I asked softly. I knew I had thought about rejection, but I wanted to know why she had been. “She is not strong enough. She is an Omega with no wolf,” Alpha Luke stated. I slowly moved my look to him and watched him sweat under my stare. “Surely she could have taken on her Luna duties, and learned to be a strong warrior?” I asked. “She has no skills
Marly POV My heart was racing at the thoughts of another rejection so soon after the last one. The pain had been incredible – nothing I had experienced before, and now it was going to happen again. Clearing his throat, the man in front of me drew my attention to him. This was it. It was happening. “I do not know that you would survive another rejection,” he replied, bluntly. I looked at him, “Oh,” was all I could muster out of my mouth. “When will you do it?” I asked. “I have never met a woman so quick to be rejected,” he said with a smile. I looked at him and realized what an attractive man he was. Maxwell was a boy, where this was a grown man who looked like he knew what life was about. “I need to leave here, sooner than later,” I stated. “Why is that?” he questioned. “If I stay, the Alpha is going to make me his mistress,” I whispered. I heard a soft growl, and looked at the man, startled by what I was hearing.
Carson POV I held Marly with one hand, while grabbing the hand and snapping the wrist of the man who had just dared to touch my mate. I heard him scream in pain, as I released him and watched as a woman ran to his side. “How dare you!” she screamed as she tried to help the man. “She cannot be your mate. She is Maxwell’s mate,” the man bit out, as he held his hand to his chest. “She is no longer his mate; he rejected her,” I stated to the couple. They gasped in shock looking between me and Marly. “She is just an Omega. Why would a man like you, want her?” the man spit out. I set Marly on her feet and stepped in front of Marly protecting her from these evil people. “Who the hell are you?” I commanded. The man cleared his throat, “We are her parents. And we apologize for the chaos she has created,” he said, as if somehow pacifying me with his words. “Apologize for what? Being rejected? That is hardly her f

Marly POV I sat there in stunned silence as Cassie’s words echoed in my mind. “What is the Alpha Lycan going to do with an Omega?”. She must have been mistaken. Who was the Alpha Lycan? Had she confused me being with the other man? Was he the Alpha Lycan. I stood paralyzed in shock and fear. There is no way I could go with them now. I would be treated far worse there then here. There is nothing but horrible things that happen to pack members at the Full Moon Pack. The temper. The temper of the Alpha Lycan. Had he not realized I was an Omega? He knew I was, but what game was he playing? Did he need a slave there? Oh, my Goddess … not a breeder! I stepped away from Carson only to have him take a hold of my hand, before I could move any further away. I felt the sparks move between us, reassuring me of something that I knew was not real. “What happens between me and my mate is our business,” Carson replied coldly.
Carson POV I hated this situation. I hated the look on Marly’s face as I replied to her question. This situation was complicated. I was in a tenuous position in my jurisdiction. I was expected to be a strong leader. A leader feared by those outside of my personal pack. I had to admit, Marly did not seem to have it in her to be feared. “Perhaps you could dummy it down for me,” Marly stated angrily. I looked at her in surprise. My mate had a backbone and was most definitely not impressed with my attempt to spare her. “Marly, there are expectations of me. Expectations that may be different from those in the other jurisdictions,” I started to say when she cut me off. “Then why bother taking me with you? They were right. Reject me now, and at least I would know the hell I have to face,” she replied coldly. I could see her lip quiver and I knew she was trying to be brave. She had been through a lot in one night. The pain of
Carson POV I took Marly’s hand in mine and led her back to the woman claiming to be Cara. We walked into the room, with Cara asking for me. She stopped asking when she saw me. Her face lit up until she saw me holding Marly’s hand. “What is this?” she whispered. “Who are you?” I countered. “Carson, you know who I am,” she replied, hurt lacing her words. “I am afraid I do not. There are no sparks between us. I spoke with an Elder who advised the only reason that would be is if you were never my mate to begin with,” I shared with her. I saw her eyes fill up with tears. “I do not understand,” she replied, as tears rolled down her cheeks. I was not immune to her pain. The woman I was looking at was identical to my first mate. I hated to see her in pain, knowing I was partially the cause. But I had to remind myself that she was somehow involved in this trickery. “I do not understand either. I am hoping yo
Marly POV My chest hurt. It hurt to breathe. I had known I was right and nothing would change. To everyone I was a useless Omega. Someone who did not matter. I rushed towards the door, eyeing the exit with hope. I needed to get some fresh air. Something to allow the pain to wash over me. I knew Sarah had wanted to follow me, but I had held my hand up. She had been wrong. Nobody wanted me here, and nobody would care if I disappeared. Just as I was about to reach my goal, I felt a warm hand take my arm. I instantly felt the sparks between us, and I felt betrayed. I whipped around and slammed my fist into Carson’s chest. I knew it would not hurt him, but I was angry at the circumstances. Before I could hit him again, Carson had wrapped his arms around my thrashing body and carried me to an empty room, shutting the door behind him. He simply held me while I cried in frustration. Frustration at the situati
Marly POV I had been working on my studies, trying to remain distracted while I kicked myself in the ass for not going with Carson. The truth was I was killing myself with all the what ifs. At least if I was there, I would know what was happening. I had reread this last text five times and still had no idea what I was supposed to be doing with it. I heard a soft tap on my door, and my heart leapt in my throat. Was Carson back already? I moved quickly to the door, opening it widely. My smile froze as I saw Jenna standing there. “How did you get up here?” I demanded as she stood at the door. “As Luna, I have access to all areas of this pack house,” she stated. I simply stood there, refusing to invite her into my room. After the last experience, I did not want a repeat of that. “What do you want?” I asked. “I wanted to let you know that just because you were safely returned to the Full Moon Pack, you will not take over the r
Carson POV “Cara?” I whispered. I could not believe my eyes. The first woman I had ever loved was lying in the bed before me. The woman I had buried. The woman I had vowed would be my only love, was alive and in front of me. I saw her eyes flutter and watched in stunned silence as they opened, and she looked frantically around the room. Her eyes settled on mine, and I watched as tears filled her eyes. “Carson?” she whispered, as she moved her hand out to mine. I was reluctant to touch her. I did not know what I felt in this moment. It was so surreal to me. My first mate was alive and in the same room as me. I moved forward and slowly took Cara’s hand, bracing myself for the sparks that would bounce between us. I touched her hand, taking it into my bigger hand. I felt … nothing. No sparks, no sense of a mate bond. Nothing. I looked to Cara in confusion, to see her confused expression mirror mine. “Wha
Marly POV I quietly shut the door behind me, as I walked into the room I was currently using. I took a deep breath, as I contemplated what would happen next. I would likely be moving my room to another floor, if I am allowed that courtesy. What was a moment of joy after shifting, suddenly felt heavy and uncomfortable. I had no idea what this meant, but I knew it would change things for Carson and myself. I quickly wiped away the sting of tears that started to fill my eyes. I refused to cry over a destiny that I had known would never be mine. I had to focus on getting my courses finished and then leaving Carson and the Full Moon Pack behind. I heard a soft tap on my door and turned as I watched the door open. “Marly?” I heard Carson say before he walked into the room. I paused as he entered. “Why did you leave?” he asked me as he came closer. “I think it is best that we put some distance between us,” I stated calmly. Calme
Carson POV Marly was a white wolf. She was stunning and it meant our pack was blessed. What would her special talent be? I had no idea, but I could not wait to find out. I saw Marly starting to sway in front of me. She was exhausted. I was proud of her. She had handled her shift very well. Shifting is not typically that intense. I could only assume it was because Marly was a special wolf, that the first shift took so long. I swept Marly into my arms and slowly walked back to where our clothing was. She had long since fallen asleep in my arms and I was reluctant to wake her. “Marly, it’s time to wake up,” I said softly. She let out a soft growl, which caused me to smile. My little mate, and wolf were going to give me a lot of attitude, I thought to myself. I slowly released her legs, letting them slide down my body so she was standing in front of me. She stood there swaying slightly as I grabbed my
Marly POV My skin was burning. I could feel the movement under my skin as Layla tried to control our shift. I felt pain everywhere; it was almost unbearable. I knew Layla had healed me. She had been talking to me softly throughout the process. The expedited healing had left me exhausted, but now I was faced with a bigger challenge. I felt Carson lift me in his arms. The touch of his skin against mine helped ease some of my discomfort temporarily. I leaned into him, needing to feel him close to me. “Hang on, sweetheart,” he murmured to me, as I felt tears sting my eyes. I did not know if I could wait much longer. I heard the doctor yelling something in the background, but Carson simply growled and continued moving forward. The fresh air as we exited the hospital helped me breathe through the next wave of pain. The forest was within feet of us now. “Put me down,” I muttered to Carson, trying to get out of his arms.
Carson POV We went through the darkened halls of the dungeons, the stench a reminder of the filth trapped here. I felt the rage inside me fuel my need to destroy Alpha Luke. He had brought up feelings I had long since buried and put to rest. Now they were rolling around inside my head, wondering how this could have happened. If it even did happen. We arrived at the Alpha’s cell. He was cuffed with silver to the wall, his arms above his head. It was evident that Jeff had spent some time trying to get Luke to talk. He had not been successful. Luke was stronger than I expected. Jeff is one of the best at torture, yet this bastard had not crumbled under the pressure. I walked in slowly, looking the Alpha over. He slowly lifted his head, his eyes almost swollen shut, blood dripping from various wounds on his face. He slowly smiled, “Ahh, I see you have managed to pull yourself away from that useless Omega,” he managed to taunt
Carson POV I paced outside the operating room, waiting for word on Marly. I cursed myself at taking so long to find her. Seeing that bastard with his canines in her throat. I could feel her fear before I saw her and all I wanted was to get there before he could hurt her. And I had almost been too late. I was reeling from Alpha Luke’s words that my first mate was still alive. I did not believe him. We had buried her; I remembered those fateful days. The pain. The desire to stop living. Those days were very real. I had hunted the rogues down who had killed her. And then I went into a drunken stupor for days. The guilt haunting me. And now I was being haunted once again. For the mate I had been gifted as my second chance mate. And for the mate I had believed was long gone from this world. I had seen the pain on Marly’s face when Luke had spilled his guts. The fear that crossed her face. I had wanted to
