Carson POV

I hated these events.  Even more so when I despised the Alpha of the pack.  And the Red Pines Pack had been a thorn in my side for years.  Ever since I took over the Full Moon Pack as the Alpha Lycan.  I am one of five Lycans who had to fight for their pack in the Kingdom.

We had to fight for our packs, and under us are the packs within our jurisdictions.  Unfortunately, a few of the packs in my jurisdiction are run by assholes.  I had my suspicions about the Red Pines Pack but could never prove anything.  I sighed as I listened to Jeff, my Beta ramble on about us being late for the ceremony.

“We are going to miss out on all the hot women,” Jeff muttered, as I laughed at him.  “I am sure there will be a woman or two left for you,” I replied, as he smiled, “Undoubtedly,” he agreed.  “What happens if you find your mate?  You have been with almost every woman out there,” I reminded him.

“I am convinced I have no mate.  I have not found her yet, and therefore, the Moon Goddess has blessed me with many encounters of lovely women,” he replied.  “Yes, but not all women are as appreciative of your diverse interests,” I said.  He shook his head, “That is true, but I have since learned my lesson.  No more sisters,” he said, cringing at the memory.

I laughed as our SUV pulled up to the main doors.  We had arrived and were expected to join the ceremony.  We both exited the vehicle and walked up the steps to enter the pack house.  I had been here before and I knew where to find the event hall.  As we walked through, I detected a hint of something delicious.  My Lycan, Kane, started to bounce in my head.  “Mate!” he exclaimed.

That was not possible.  I had a mate who had died during a rogue attack when I first met her several years ago.  I never got over her and was satisfied never having a mate again.  I reluctantly moved towards the event hall, distinctly aware that the scent got weaker the closer we got.

The guards opened the doors to the hall, nodding to me and Jeff as we entered.  The scent had been stronger but was now fading.  Wherever she was, she was not in here.  I put the thoughts behind me, as Kane howled in my mind to find her.  Instead, I ignored him, and moved forward to our seats.

As the ceremony concluded, everyone clapped as the young Alpha Maxwell was presented as the Alpha for the Red Pines Pack.  I had always questioned whether he was ready, only being eighteen and having everything handed to him on a platter.  I admit it pissed me off, but I had no qualms about how I came to be the Alpha of the Full Moon Pack.

I had fought and earned my place, and I had the trust and commitment from my pack members.  I cared about them and wanted them all to be successful.  Whether they were an Omega or a ranked officer, they were important in our Pack.  I stood and made my way towards the young Alpha and his father Luke.

I saw Alpha Luke tense, as I approached.  “Lycan, I am surprised you could make time for this little ceremony,” Luke stated.  I looked down at him, given that I was taller and smirked.  “I would never miss the introduction of a new Alpha in my jurisdiction,” I stated softly.

I knew I made the Alpha uncomfortable and the silly grin on his heir’s face, reminded me what an idiot he was as well.  “You remember my Beta, Jeff,” I said, reintroducing Jeff to the pair.  “Of course,” Alpha Luke responded, nodding to Jeff.  Alpha Maxwell had the sense to put his hand forward and accept Jeff’s congratulations.

“Did we miss anything exciting?” I asked, surprised to see a look shared between the Alphas.  Something was amiss, but what?  “Nope, the ceremony was the main event,” Alpha Luke responded.  Jeff suddenly turned and headed away from us.  I glanced his way but was focused on what I was not hearing.  The truth.

“You will have to excuse me, Alpha Carson.  I have some urgent pack business to tend to, and Maxwell needs to attend with me,” Alpha Luke stated, before nudging Maxwell to follow him.  I watched the Alpha scurry off.  I was about to follow him, when I heard, “Mate!” come from behind me.

I turned my head, to see Jeff enthralled with a young woman.  She was standing in front of him, looking at him shyly.  I could see Jeff was conflicted.  He had always said he did not want a mate, yet here he was faced with one.  Before anything else could be said, Jeff pivoted and walked away from her and headed out the door.

I watched her face fall and immediately follow Jeff out the door.  I grabbed his arm, “What the hell are you doing?” I demanded, embarrassed by his actions.  He shook my hand off his arm, “I cannot have a mate,” he said, shocking me.  “Well, you have one.  Now what are you going to do about it?” I questioned.

“Nothing.  I am going to leave.  You did not want to be here.  Let us leave now,” he said.  “Absolutely not.  What is your problem?  That woman in there is devastated that you walked away.  At least tell her it is not her fault, but yours,” I said to him.  “I cannot.  I do not deserve her.  You saw her.  She is perfection,” Jeff muttered as his shoulders slumped.

“The Moon Goddess does not make mistakes.  I would give anything to have my mate back with me,” I reminded him.  He had known my mate, before she died.  He knew what I went through when I had lost her.  “I suggest you get your ass back in there, before she misunderstands further,” I told him, pushing him back towards the door.

I followed him in and watched him walk towards the young woman who was being consoled by her parents.  Her mother nudged her to turn and watched as Jeff walked towards her.  He held out his hand to her and he lifted her hand to his lips.  I could see the moment the sparks bounced between them.

Her eyes lit up, and she smiled softly.  She would be good for Jeff.  She was a calm individual, where he was more excitable.  She would balance him out.  As Jeff pulled her in his arms, I moved away from the pair to give them some privacy.  I looked around and noticed pockets of people talking about something that had happened earlier.

I moved closer to one group of young women.  “I cannot believe she tried to pull that stunt.  An Omega mated to an Alpha.  That is unheard of!” one of the women exclaimed.  “Especially that Omega.  Marly Bent is nothing but an embarrassment to the Red Pines Pack.  Even her parents do not want her,” another said.

Marly Bent.  Who was this woman and why was she being cast aside for being an Omega?  We had Omegas in our pack who were cherished as we would any other pack member.  I looked around and noticed that the Alphas had not returned yet.  I stepped outside of the event hall and followed where I had last detected the familiar scent.

The scent was no longer lingering but I could hear raised voices coming from the direction of the Red Pines Pack’s meeting room.  I slowly walked closer and noticed the chocolate and strawberry scent start to tickle my senses.  “Mate!” Kane said bouncing around in my mind.

I paused.  I did not want this.  I realized it made me a hypocrite after what I said to Jeff, but this was different.  I never expected or yearned for a second chance mate.  This woman deserved a mate who wanted her.  I was drawn from my thoughts as I heard the rage behind Alpha Luke’s command, “Accept his rejection!”.

What the hell was going on.  I saw the guards standing outside the room.  I saw them stand taller, but I could smell the fear coming off them.  I simply stared at them, and they moved out of the way.  As they did, I watched as both Alphas whipped open the meeting room door.

They had not seen me yet.  Alpha Luke told the men on guard to keep her contained and they would deal with her later.  As they turned, they both saw me and were startled backwards.  “Alpha Carson, what are you doing here?” Alpha Luke spit out.  “Looking for someone,” I replied calmly.  “And who would that be?” Maxwell questioned.

“My mate.”.

Carson POV “Mate? Didn’t your mate die in a tragic rogue attack?” Alpha Luke taunted me. I felt my claws start to extend from my hands as Kane started to take over. Taking a moment to breathe, I calmed Kane down, before responding to the bastard standing in front of me. “It would seem I am being given a second chance mate,” I replied coldly. The Alpha had a look of discomfort cross his face, as the young Alpha stood taller. “That is not possible, she is mine!” he exclaimed as his father whipped his head around to glare at him. “Are you telling me you rejected your fated mate?” I asked softly. I knew I had thought about rejection, but I wanted to know why she had been. “She is not strong enough. She is an Omega with no wolf,” Alpha Luke stated. I slowly moved my look to him and watched him sweat under my stare. “Surely she could have taken on her Luna duties, and learned to be a strong warrior?” I asked. “She has no skills

Marly POV My heart was racing at the thoughts of another rejection so soon after the last one. The pain had been incredible – nothing I had experienced before, and now it was going to happen again. Clearing his throat, the man in front of me drew my attention to him. This was it. It was happening. “I do not know that you would survive another rejection,” he replied, bluntly. I looked at him, “Oh,” was all I could muster out of my mouth. “When will you do it?” I asked. “I have never met a woman so quick to be rejected,” he said with a smile. I looked at him and realized what an attractive man he was. Maxwell was a boy, where this was a grown man who looked like he knew what life was about. “I need to leave here, sooner than later,” I stated. “Why is that?” he questioned. “If I stay, the Alpha is going to make me his mistress,” I whispered. I heard a soft growl, and looked at the man, startled by what I was hearing.

She is Maxwell’s mate,” the man bit out, as he held his hand to his chest. “She is no longer his mate; he rejected her,” I stated to the couple. They gasped in shock looking between me and Marly. “She is just an Omega. Why would a man like you, want her?” the man spit out. I set Marly on her feet and stepped in front of Marly protecting her from these evil people. “Who the hell are you?” I commanded. The man cleared his throat, “We are her parents. And we apologize for the chaos she has created,” he said, as if somehow pacifying me with his words. “Apologize for what? Being rejected? That is hardly her f

Marly POV I sat there in stunned silence as Cassie’s words echoed in my mind. “What is the Alpha Lycan going to do with an Omega?”. She must have been mistaken. Who was the Alpha Lycan? Had she confused me being with the other man? Was he the Alpha Lycan. I stood paralyzed in shock and fear. There is no way I could go with them now. I would be treated far worse there then here. There is nothing but horrible things that happen to pack members at the Full Moon Pack. The temper. The temper of the Alpha Lycan. Had he not realized I was an Omega? He knew I was, but what game was he playing? Did he need a slave there? Oh, my Goddess … not a breeder! I stepped away from Carson only to have him take a hold of my hand, before I could move any further away. I felt the sparks move between us, reassuring me of something that I knew was not real. “What happens between me and my mate is our business,” Carson replied coldly.

  • The Lycan's Powerful Omega   Chapter 11 - Trouble

Carson POV I hated this situation. I hated the look on Marly’s face as I replied to her question. This situation was complicated. I was in a tenuous position in my jurisdiction. I was expected to be a strong leader. A leader feared by those outside of my personal pack. I had to admit, Marly did not seem to have it in her to be feared. “Perhaps you could dummy it down for me,” Marly stated angrily. I looked at her in surprise. My mate had a backbone and was most definitely not impressed with my attempt to spare her. “Marly, there are expectations of me. Expectations that may be different from those in the other jurisdictions,” I started to say when she cut me off. “Then why bother taking me with you? They were right. Reject me now, and at least I would know the hell I have to face,” she replied coldly. I could see her lip quiver and I knew she was trying to be brave. She had been through a lot in one night. Marly POV I sat there in stunned silence as the pain burned in my heart. Watching my mate with another woman in his arms hurt more than I could have expected. Not interested in waiting, I growled and threw the vehicle door open. I stepped out before anybody could help me out. I heard a growl from inside the vehicle but did not pay it any attention. In another time I would have been thrilled with my surroundings. I had never left the Red Pines Pack before. To see something new was exciting. This pack house was pristine. It was massive and looked like it was a warm and welcoming place. Before I could move forward, I felt someone at my side. I looked to see Sarah there with an apologetic smile on her face. I looked away. She reminded me of my past, and the reality that this was not my future. I felt sparks on my arm and was reminded of unfinished business with the Alpha. I looked at him expecting to see hi

She locked it behind her, and caused me a moment of panic as I took in her stance, “Who are you?” she asked me. “Who the hell are you?” I replied. She looked me up and down. I was still in my torn dress with Carson’s suit jacket covering my body. “I am the Luna of the Full Moon Pack,” she responded proudly. I looked at her, “My understanding is that you are the acting Luna,” I said calmly. Seeing her face go red gave me a brief moment of happiness, until she grabbed the jacket and ripped it from my body. A chill rolled over my body, as I simply stood there in shock. “You heard wrong,” she stated, before repeating, “Who are you and why are you wearing Carson’s jacket?” she demanded. Her face lit up until she saw me holding Marly’s hand. “What is this?” she whispered. “Who are you?” I countered. “Carson, you know who I am,” she replied, hurt lacing her words. “I am afraid I do not. There are no sparks between us. I spoke with an Elder who advised the only reason that would be is if you were never my mate to begin with,” I shared with her. I saw her eyes fill up with tears. “I do not understand,” she replied, as tears rolled down her cheeks. I was not immune to her pain. The woman I was looking at was identical to my first mate. I hated to see her in pain, knowing I was partially the cause. But I had to remind myself that she was somehow involved in this trickery. “I do not understand either. I am hoping yo

She had been wrong. Nobody wanted me here, and nobody would care if I disappeared. Just as I was about to reach my goal, I felt a warm hand take my arm. I instantly felt the sparks between us, and I felt betrayed. I whipped around and slammed my fist into Carson’s chest. I knew it would not hurt him, but I was angry at the circumstances. Marly POV I had been working on my studies, trying to remain distracted while I kicked myself in the ass for not going with Carson. The truth was I was killing myself with all the what ifs. At least if I was there, I would know what was happening. I had reread this last text five times and still had no idea what I was supposed to be doing with it. I heard a soft tap on my door, and my heart leapt in my throat. Was Carson back already? I moved quickly to the door, opening it widely. My smile froze as I saw Jenna standing there. “How did you get up here?” I demanded as she stood at the door. “As Luna, I have access to all areas of this pack house,” she stated. I simply stood there, refusing to invite her into my room. After the last experience, I did not want a repeat of that. “What do you want?” I asked. “I wanted to let you know that just because you were safely returned to the Full Moon Pack, you will not take over the r

Carson POV “Cara?” I whispered. I could not believe my eyes. The first woman I had ever loved was lying in the bed before me. The woman I had buried. The woman I had vowed would be my only love, was alive and in front of me. I saw her eyes flutter and watched in stunned silence as they opened, and she looked frantically around the room. Her eyes settled on mine, and I watched as tears filled her eyes. “Carson?” she whispered, as she moved her hand out to mine. I was reluctant to touch her. I did not know what I felt in this moment. It was so surreal to me. My first mate was alive and in the same room as me. I moved forward and slowly took Cara’s hand, bracing myself for the sparks that would bounce between us. I touched her hand, taking it into my bigger hand. I felt … nothing. No sparks, no sense of a mate bond. Nothing. I looked to Cara in confusion, to see her confused expression mirror mine. “Wha

Marly POV I quietly shut the door behind me, as I walked into the room I was currently using. I took a deep breath, as I contemplated what would happen next. I would likely be moving my room to another floor, if I am allowed that courtesy. What was a moment of joy after shifting, suddenly felt heavy and uncomfortable. I had no idea what this meant, but I knew it would change things for Carson and myself. I quickly wiped away the sting of tears that started to fill my eyes. I refused to cry over a destiny that I had known would never be mine. I had to focus on getting my courses finished and then leaving Carson and the Full Moon Pack behind. I heard a soft tap on my door and turned as I watched the door open. “Marly?” I heard Carson say before he walked into the room. I paused as he entered. “Why did you leave?” he asked me as he came closer. “I think it is best that we put some distance between us,” I stated calmly. Calme

Carson POV Marly was a white wolf. She was stunning and it meant our pack was blessed. What would her special talent be? I had no idea, but I could not wait to find out. I saw Marly starting to sway in front of me. She was exhausted. I was proud of her. She had handled her shift very well. Shifting is not typically that intense. I could only assume it was because Marly was a special wolf, that the first shift took so long. I swept Marly into my arms and slowly walked back to where our clothing was. She had long since fallen asleep in my arms and I was reluctant to wake her. “Marly, it’s time to wake up,” I said softly. She let out a soft growl, which caused me to smile. My little mate, and wolf were going to give me a lot of attitude, I thought to myself. I slowly released her legs, letting them slide down my body so she was standing in front of me. She stood there swaying slightly as I grabbed my

Marly POV My skin was burning. I could feel the movement under my skin as Layla tried to control our shift. I felt pain everywhere; it was almost unbearable. I knew Layla had healed me. She had been talking to me softly throughout the process. The expedited healing had left me exhausted, but now I was faced with a bigger challenge. I felt Carson lift me in his arms. The touch of his skin against mine helped ease some of my discomfort temporarily. I leaned into him, needing to feel him close to me. “Hang on, sweetheart,” he murmured to me, as I felt tears sting my eyes. I did not know if I could wait much longer. I heard the doctor yelling something in the background, but Carson simply growled and continued moving forward. The fresh air as we exited the hospital helped me breathe through the next wave of pain. The forest was within feet of us now. “Put me down,” I muttered to Carson, trying to get out of his arms.

Carson POV We went through the darkened halls of the dungeons, the stench a reminder of the filth trapped here. I felt the rage inside me fuel my need to destroy Alpha Luke. He had brought up feelings I had long since buried and put to rest. Now they were rolling around inside my head, wondering how this could have happened. If it even did happen. We arrived at the Alpha’s cell. He was cuffed with silver to the wall, his arms above his head. It was evident that Jeff had spent some time trying to get Luke to talk. He had not been successful. Luke was stronger than I expected. Jeff is one of the best at torture, yet this bastard had not crumbled under the pressure. I walked in slowly, looking the Alpha over. He slowly lifted his head, his eyes almost swollen shut, blood dripping from various wounds on his face. He slowly smiled, “Ahh, I see you have managed to pull yourself away from that useless Omega,” he managed to taunt

I could feel her fear before I saw her and all I wanted was to get there before he could hurt her. And I had almost been too late. I was reeling from Alpha Luke’s words that my first mate was still alive. I did not believe him. We had buried her; I remembered those fateful days. The pain. The desire to stop living. Those days were very real. I had hunted the rogues down who had killed her. And then I went into a drunken stupor for days. The guilt haunting me. And now I was being haunted once again. For the mate I had been gifted as my second chance mate. And for the mate I had believed was long gone from this world. I had seen the pain on Marly’s face when Luke had spilled his guts. The fear that crossed her face. I had wanted to
