Marly POV
When I woke up the next morning, after finally falling asleep, I had bruises on my stomach. Nobody had beaten me, so I did not understand where they had come from. My stomach ached like I had taken a beating, but it made no sense.
Layla was still quiet. “Layla?” I asked but heard no response. I was sorry for her; we had just met in my mind, the night before. I had hoped to shift, but Layla said we would not shift as it was too soon and that we were special. But I feared I was already a disappointment for her. “You are not a disappointment, Marly,” Layla said softly before adding, “Our mate is the disappointment,” she replied before receding back in my mind.
Looking at the clock, I raced downstairs to prepare breakfast for my family. “You are late,” my father scowled at me. “Sorry, Gamma,” I replied quickly preparing bacon and eggs for my family. I was not allowed to call my parents mom and dad. I could only address them with their titles. My sister and brother were able to call them mom and dad, but they were Gammas, so it made sense, I guessed.
I was never permitted to eat with the family, so I never ate much. My mother was constantly telling me men did not want a curvy woman. Some curves I could not help, like my ample breasts, and hips. I knew the popular girls were petite, but I had a secret. I had a mate, and he loved my curves.
Racing to catch the bus, I heard my mother yell at me, “Do not be late today, Omega. We are having guests this evening, and I want a meal prepared for when they arrive. I waved to acknowledge her as I raced to the bus stop. Sighing, I had already missed it, so I made the long walk to school.
As I was walking along an SUV stopped beside me. My mate was driving, “Hop in Omega,” he said. I smiled at him, eager to spend time with him. I noticed his future Beta in the front seat, so I opened the door to the back seat. I was surprised to see a couple other of Maxwell’s friends there.
I felt uneasy as I slipped into the vehicle, hesitating and debating if I should just walk. Before I could decide, an arm reached across me, slamming the door shut and deciding my fate. Maxwell stepped on it, and I was flung back in the seat. The guys laughed, as I scrambled to get my seatbelt on.
“Didn’t I say she was a looker?” Maxwell said to his friends. I was basking in the compliment, until I shyly looked at his friends. There were looks of hunger in their eyes, “She certainly is, Alpha,” the Beta replied, licking his lips. I glanced at the others, who were equally staring, “I love those curves,” one said, making me feel sick to my already aching stomach.
I sat up in shock as the male closest to me put his hand on my leg. “And she’s jumpy, I like that in a she-wolf,” he murmured. I looked to see Maxwell glancing back at me, with a smirk on his face. Something was very wrong, and I needed to get out of the vehicle sooner than later.
As we took another turn, I realized we were already at the school. Sighing in relief, I quickly jumped out of the vehicle, getting away from the guy who had been touching my leg. Maxwell and the others got out of the vehicle. “What the hell do we have here?” my sister Cassie asked as her and mean girls, as I called them, approached the vehicle.
She looked down her nose at me. It was no secret she hated me, and in fact went out of her way to make my life hell. “We saw your sister walking, and picked her up,” the Beta replied as he continued to look me up and down. I knew my clothes were nothing to look at, but it was like he was looking straight through me.
“Well, she can get lost now,” she said, as the mean girls laughed along with Maxwell and his friends. I felt tears sting my eyes but quickly put my head down and walked away. I did not want to cry in front of them or him. I did not know what it meant, but I had hoped Maxwell would stand up for me.
Not able to spend much time dwelling on things, I went to my classes. Before I went to my final class of the day, I squealed as an arm reached out and dragged me into a vacant classroom. I was then pulled by my hair and my face slammed down on the desk, “I do not know what you are up to, Omega, but you better be careful,” Cassie spit out as she bent down over me.
Before I could reply, I heard someone open the door, and I could smell my mate enter the room. Coffee was not my favourite smell, but I felt a sense of comfort wash over me, as I waited for Maxwell to rescue me. I felt him move closer and could feel the heat of his body behind mine.
“What are you doing Cass?” Maxwell asked her. She laughed, “Just reminding the Omega of her place,” she replied as her grip eased up on my head. I felt relief when she let my hair go. Before I could stand up, I felt a twist of pain in my stomach similar to last night but not as intense.
I looked towards the pair, to see them kissing. It was not possible. I moved to get away from them, when Maxwell’s arm snaked out to grab my arm, “We will discuss this later,” he said, as if this somehow made sense. I simply shook his hand off my arm and raced to my final class.
I held the tears at bay, as I walked into the classroom late. I slipped into my seat and simply stared out the window, rather than focus on what the teacher was saying. I loved school; it was a way for me to escape my reality. I had plans of going to college when I was done. A chance to leave this hell behind.
But today I found no solace in my lessons. Instead, I thought about what I had to when I got home and sighed in relief when the final buzzer went off. I grabbed my things and raced to catch the bus. I could not afford to be late, and I most definitely did not want a ride home with Maxwell.
Before I stepped onto the bus, I felt someone grab my arm. “Where are you off to in such a hurry?” the Beta asked as his hand tightened around my arm. “I have someplace I have to be,” I replied, trying to tug my arm away from him. “Maxwell will not be happy,” he cautioned me.
I tugged and he finally released my arm. I jumped onto the bus and took my seat. As we pulled away, I watched Maxwell move towards his Beta. He stared at me with a scowl. That stare sent a chill down my spine. He mouthed the words, “I will see you soon,” a promise I did not know if I was meant to look forward to or dread.
Marly POV I finished putting the meal together, as the doorbell rang indicating the guests had arrived. For these types of events, my parents insisted on putting on a show so I would join them for the meal. I was to eat a minimal amount of food and only speak when spoken to. I heard voices but could not make out who was here. I was silently plating food, when my mother walked in behind me. “Hurry up; everything had better be hot!” she scowled. She hated that I would be joining them for the meal, and I knew I had to be on my best behaviour. I carried the plates through to the dining room and almost tripped over my feet when I saw Maxwell standing there with his father, Alpha Luke. I caught Mason’s eye, seing him smirk at my surprise. I think looked away before I dropped the plates and placed them on the table, before returning with the final plates of food. “Everyone, please take your seats,” my father requ
Marly POV Before I could do anything, Cassie moved forward and slapped me across the face. “Get your hands off my boyfriend,” she yelled, as my parents and the Alpha came through the door. My mother moved forward and took the coffee from Maxwell, “My apologies Alpha. Allow me to take this,” my mother said, ever the helpful hostess. Everyone was ignoring my red face and looking to Cassie for an explanation. “What is the meaning of this, Cassie?” my father demanded. “My sister was kissing my boyfriend!” Cassie yelled. “I was not,” I started to say when Maxwell glared at me. What did that look mean? “It was a misunderstanding; no harm done,” the Alpha stated with a chuckle. No harm done? There was harm done. Maxwell was lying to everyone. He had the chance to tell them, and he chose not to. What was going on? I knew my eyes had hurt in them, but I could not release the tears that were stinging my eyes. “
Marly POV Tears filled my eyes, as I looked at the dress and shoes. They were destroyed. The shoes were marked up, and the dress was torn in various places of the dress. I looked at it in despair wondering if I would be able to salvage any of it. I worked all night on the dress and was finally satisfied enough to get a couple hours of sleep. I had to pack a bag as I would not be coming back to change for the ceremony. Secretly I packed some extra items, as I knew I would not be coming back at all. Anything of mine would be sent to the pack house, tomorrow once I had been named Maxwell’s Luna. The day flew by, with all the details coming together perfectly. I made sure every detail was perfection, before I quickly went to the common washroom to change. I heard the various guests arriving throughout the day, catching glimpses of the Alphas and Lunas from other packs who were here to celebrate Maxwell. I slip
Carson POV I hated these events. Even more so when I despised the Alpha of the pack. And the Red Pines Pack had been a thorn in my side for years. Ever since I took over the Full Moon Pack as the Alpha Lycan. I am one of five Lycans who had to fight for their pack in the Kingdom. We had to fight for our packs, and under us are the packs within our jurisdictions. Unfortunately, a few of the packs in my jurisdiction are run by assholes. I had my suspicions about the Red Pines Pack but could never prove anything. I sighed as I listened to Jeff, my Beta ramble on about us being late for the ceremony. “We are going to miss out on all the hot women,” Jeff muttered, as I laughed at him. “I am sure there will be a woman or two left for you,” I replied, as he smiled, “Undoubtedly,” he agreed. “What happens if you find your mate? You have been with almost every woman out there,” I reminded him. “I am convinced I h
Carson POV “Mate? Didn’t your mate die in a tragic rogue attack?” Alpha Luke taunted me. I felt my claws start to extend from my hands as Kane started to take over. Taking a moment to breathe, I calmed Kane down, before responding to the bastard standing in front of me. “It would seem I am being given a second chance mate,” I replied coldly. The Alpha had a look of discomfort cross his face, as the young Alpha stood taller. “That is not possible, she is mine!” he exclaimed as his father whipped his head around to glare at him. “Are you telling me you rejected your fated mate?” I asked softly. I knew I had thought about rejection, but I wanted to know why she had been. “She is not strong enough. She is an Omega with no wolf,” Alpha Luke stated. I slowly moved my look to him and watched him sweat under my stare. “Surely she could have taken on her Luna duties, and learned to be a strong warrior?” I asked. “She has no skills
Marly POV My heart was racing at the thoughts of another rejection so soon after the last one. The pain had been incredible – nothing I had experienced before, and now it was going to happen again. Clearing his throat, the man in front of me drew my attention to him. This was it. It was happening. “I do not know that you would survive another rejection,” he replied, bluntly. I looked at him, “Oh,” was all I could muster out of my mouth. “When will you do it?” I asked. “I have never met a woman so quick to be rejected,” he said with a smile. I looked at him and realized what an attractive man he was. Maxwell was a boy, where this was a grown man who looked like he knew what life was about. “I need to leave here, sooner than later,” I stated. “Why is that?” he questioned. “If I stay, the Alpha is going to make me his mistress,” I whispered. I heard a soft growl, and looked at the man, startled by what I was hearing.
Carson POV I held Marly with one hand, while grabbing the hand and snapping the wrist of the man who had just dared to touch my mate. I heard him scream in pain, as I released him and watched as a woman ran to his side. “How dare you!” she screamed as she tried to help the man. “She cannot be your mate. She is Maxwell’s mate,” the man bit out, as he held his hand to his chest. “She is no longer his mate; he rejected her,” I stated to the couple. They gasped in shock looking between me and Marly. “She is just an Omega. Why would a man like you, want her?” the man spit out. I set Marly on her feet and stepped in front of Marly protecting her from these evil people. “Who the hell are you?” I commanded. The man cleared his throat, “We are her parents. And we apologize for the chaos she has created,” he said, as if somehow pacifying me with his words. “Apologize for what? Being rejected? That is hardly her f

Carson POV I took Marly’s hand in mine and led her back to the woman claiming to be Cara. We walked into the room, with Cara asking for me. She stopped asking when she saw me. Her face lit up until she saw me holding Marly’s hand. “What is this?” she whispered. “Who are you?” I countered. “Carson, you know who I am,” she replied, hurt lacing her words. “I am afraid I do not. There are no sparks between us. I spoke with an Elder who advised the only reason that would be is if you were never my mate to begin with,” I shared with her. I saw her eyes fill up with tears. “I do not understand,” she replied, as tears rolled down her cheeks. I was not immune to her pain. The woman I was looking at was identical to my first mate. I hated to see her in pain, knowing I was partially the cause. But I had to remind myself that she was somehow involved in this trickery. “I do not understand either. I am hoping yo
Marly POV My chest hurt. It hurt to breathe. I had known I was right and nothing would change. To everyone I was a useless Omega. Someone who did not matter. I rushed towards the door, eyeing the exit with hope. I needed to get some fresh air. Something to allow the pain to wash over me. I knew Sarah had wanted to follow me, but I had held my hand up. She had been wrong. Nobody wanted me here, and nobody would care if I disappeared. Just as I was about to reach my goal, I felt a warm hand take my arm. I instantly felt the sparks between us, and I felt betrayed. I whipped around and slammed my fist into Carson’s chest. I knew it would not hurt him, but I was angry at the circumstances. Before I could hit him again, Carson had wrapped his arms around my thrashing body and carried me to an empty room, shutting the door behind him. He simply held me while I cried in frustration. Frustration at the situati
Marly POV I had been working on my studies, trying to remain distracted while I kicked myself in the ass for not going with Carson. The truth was I was killing myself with all the what ifs. At least if I was there, I would know what was happening. I had reread this last text five times and still had no idea what I was supposed to be doing with it. I heard a soft tap on my door, and my heart leapt in my throat. Was Carson back already? I moved quickly to the door, opening it widely. My smile froze as I saw Jenna standing there. “How did you get up here?” I demanded as she stood at the door. “As Luna, I have access to all areas of this pack house,” she stated. I simply stood there, refusing to invite her into my room. After the last experience, I did not want a repeat of that. “What do you want?” I asked. “I wanted to let you know that just because you were safely returned to the Full Moon Pack, you will not take over the r
Carson POV “Cara?” I whispered. I could not believe my eyes. The first woman I had ever loved was lying in the bed before me. The woman I had buried. The woman I had vowed would be my only love, was alive and in front of me. I saw her eyes flutter and watched in stunned silence as they opened, and she looked frantically around the room. Her eyes settled on mine, and I watched as tears filled her eyes. “Carson?” she whispered, as she moved her hand out to mine. I was reluctant to touch her. I did not know what I felt in this moment. It was so surreal to me. My first mate was alive and in the same room as me. I moved forward and slowly took Cara’s hand, bracing myself for the sparks that would bounce between us. I touched her hand, taking it into my bigger hand. I felt … nothing. No sparks, no sense of a mate bond. Nothing. I looked to Cara in confusion, to see her confused expression mirror mine. “Wha
Marly POV I quietly shut the door behind me, as I walked into the room I was currently using. I took a deep breath, as I contemplated what would happen next. I would likely be moving my room to another floor, if I am allowed that courtesy. What was a moment of joy after shifting, suddenly felt heavy and uncomfortable. I had no idea what this meant, but I knew it would change things for Carson and myself. I quickly wiped away the sting of tears that started to fill my eyes. I refused to cry over a destiny that I had known would never be mine. I had to focus on getting my courses finished and then leaving Carson and the Full Moon Pack behind. I heard a soft tap on my door and turned as I watched the door open. “Marly?” I heard Carson say before he walked into the room. I paused as he entered. “Why did you leave?” he asked me as he came closer. “I think it is best that we put some distance between us,” I stated calmly. Calme
Carson POV Marly was a white wolf. She was stunning and it meant our pack was blessed. What would her special talent be? I had no idea, but I could not wait to find out. I saw Marly starting to sway in front of me. She was exhausted. I was proud of her. She had handled her shift very well. Shifting is not typically that intense. I could only assume it was because Marly was a special wolf, that the first shift took so long. I swept Marly into my arms and slowly walked back to where our clothing was. She had long since fallen asleep in my arms and I was reluctant to wake her. “Marly, it’s time to wake up,” I said softly. She let out a soft growl, which caused me to smile. My little mate, and wolf were going to give me a lot of attitude, I thought to myself. I slowly released her legs, letting them slide down my body so she was standing in front of me. She stood there swaying slightly as I grabbed my
Marly POV My skin was burning. I could feel the movement under my skin as Layla tried to control our shift. I felt pain everywhere; it was almost unbearable. I knew Layla had healed me. She had been talking to me softly throughout the process. The expedited healing had left me exhausted, but now I was faced with a bigger challenge. I felt Carson lift me in his arms. The touch of his skin against mine helped ease some of my discomfort temporarily. I leaned into him, needing to feel him close to me. “Hang on, sweetheart,” he murmured to me, as I felt tears sting my eyes. I did not know if I could wait much longer. I heard the doctor yelling something in the background, but Carson simply growled and continued moving forward. The fresh air as we exited the hospital helped me breathe through the next wave of pain. The forest was within feet of us now. “Put me down,” I muttered to Carson, trying to get out of his arms.
Carson POV We went through the darkened halls of the dungeons, the stench a reminder of the filth trapped here. I felt the rage inside me fuel my need to destroy Alpha Luke. He had brought up feelings I had long since buried and put to rest. Now they were rolling around inside my head, wondering how this could have happened. If it even did happen. We arrived at the Alpha’s cell. He was cuffed with silver to the wall, his arms above his head. It was evident that Jeff had spent some time trying to get Luke to talk. He had not been successful. Luke was stronger than I expected. Jeff is one of the best at torture, yet this bastard had not crumbled under the pressure. I walked in slowly, looking the Alpha over. He slowly lifted his head, his eyes almost swollen shut, blood dripping from various wounds on his face. He slowly smiled, “Ahh, I see you have managed to pull yourself away from that useless Omega,” he managed to taunt
Carson POV I paced outside the operating room, waiting for word on Marly. I cursed myself at taking so long to find her. Seeing that bastard with his canines in her throat. I could feel her fear before I saw her and all I wanted was to get there before he could hurt her. And I had almost been too late. I was reeling from Alpha Luke’s words that my first mate was still alive. I did not believe him. We had buried her; I remembered those fateful days. The pain. The desire to stop living. Those days were very real. I had hunted the rogues down who had killed her. And then I went into a drunken stupor for days. The guilt haunting me. And now I was being haunted once again. For the mate I had been gifted as my second chance mate. And for the mate I had believed was long gone from this world. I had seen the pain on Marly’s face when Luke had spilled his guts. The fear that crossed her face. I had wanted to
